Jabaal Sheard, Scott Chandler happy to join winning Patriots culture

Defensive end Jabaal Sheard was part of Cleveland Browns teams that posted a combined 20-44 record over the last four seasons. Meanwhile, tight end Scott Chandler was part of Buffalo Bills teams that went 31-49 over the last five seasons. Between them, there was one winning season (Bills 9-7 in 2014) and no playoff appearances. On Friday afternoon, the two highest-profile New England Patriots free-agent signings from other teams held conference calls and one common thread was their desire to be part of a winning culture.

Chandler, at 6’7" and 260 lbs, has spent the last five seasons with the Bills after stints with the Chargers, Cowboys, and Giants. It will be interesting to see how he co-exists with the Patriots current tight end depth in Michael Hoomanwanui and Tim Wright. He’s a better...

TE Scott Chandler has hurt Patriots in past; now he joins them

The New England Patriots' agreement with former Buffalo Bills tight end Scott Chandler could be viewed somewhat similarly to when the team acquired receiver Wes Welker from Miami in 2007. With Welker, the Patriots had grown frustrated trying to cover him, so they did the best thing they could to alleviate that problem by bringing him on to their own team. Chandler fits that bill, albeit to a slightly lesser degree. In the last four seasons against the Patriots, the tall, rangy tight end has totaled 28 receptions for 384 yards, with four touchdowns and 21 first downs.

Buffalo Bills showing interest in Anthony Fasano, per report

The Buffalo Bills are basically gutting and remodeling the tight end position, and are going to need more than just Charles Clay (if they can get him) to fill the position back out. The Buffalo Bills remain in full pursuit of Miami Dolphins tight end Charles Clay in free agency, but after releasing four-year starter Scott Chandler on Wednesday, the Bills are also in need of more bodies at that position, as well. Anthony Fasano is a veteran, blocking-oriented tight end that, after his release from Kansas City, has visited with Cincinnati and, most recently, Tennessee. If he gets away from...
