Videos --- Rice, Turbin, Sherman

Seahawks Blog | Seattle Times — Here are a few snippets of video interviews with a trio of Seahawks following today's mini-camp workout --- receiver Sidney Rice, linebacker Bobby Wagner and cornerback Richard Sherman. First, Rice, who talks about what a return of quarterback Tarvaris Jackson might mean to the Seahawks (the two played together in Minnesota as well as 2011 in Seattle): Next, Wagner, who talked about some of the changing linebacker roles as well as his new facemask (which resembles that worn in the past by Ray Lewis). He also gets some interview tips from former colle...

Bills cut ex-Hawks QB Tarvaris Jackson

Seahawks Insider | Tacoma News-Tribune — Seahawks quarterback Tarvaris Jackson throws to Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice at the start of practice at the Seahawks practice facility in Renton, Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011. One of the reasons Tarvaris Jackson signed with the Buffalo Bills during the offseason is he believed that he was given assurances from the team’s former general manager, Buddy Nix, that he would have a legitimate shot at earning the starting quarterback job. But then Buffalo signed Kevin Kolb in free agency and drafted E.J. Manual in the first round, and the writing was on the wall for Jackson. The Bills announced that...

Morning links: Do Seahawks lack a deep threat?

Seahawks Insider | Tacoma News-Tribune — Andy Benoit of Football Outsiders discusses the biggest hole for each team in the NFC West following the completion of the draft and the bulk of free agency. And while Benoit notes that it’s hard to find a weakness on Seattle’s talented roster, he lands on the lack of a true vertical threat as something the Seahawks could continue to improve on. Benoit says that Sidney Rice still can find ways to get deep, but lacks the pure deep speed that he had earlier in his career before the injuries. Benoit: “Yes, newly-acquired Percy Harvin has terrific speed. … Read more »

Seahawks draft Harper

CBSSports.com Fantasy — The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports the Seahawks on Saturday selected wide receiver Chris Harper out of Kansas State with their fourth-round pick of the NFL Draft. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds, Harper would be the biggest receiver on Seattle’s roster, though shorter than Sidney Rice. He led the Wildcats last year with 857 yards, and had three touchdowns on 58 receptions. “He’s just a bigger guy,” Trent Kirchner, Seahawks assistant director of pro personnel, told Seattle media Saturday. “He’s not a real tall guy, bet he does run with the strength after the catch. Not a real big make-you...

Vikings West Likely To Grab Another Player

Daily Norseman — As you've all heard by now, Antoine Winfield is set this week to meet with the Seattle Seahawks. There he would be reunited with Heath Farwell, Sidney Rice, and Percy Harvin, as well as playing on a team with legitimate Super Bowl aspirations this year. Did I mention that the Seahawks have over $3 million dollars more than we do in cap space? Because that's pretty important, too. I don't see how Winfield leaves Seattle without a contract, unless they for whatever reason decide not to pursue him after all. Admittedly Seattle's secondary, unlike ours, doesn't exactly need Winfield. They...

Alan Branch, Tony McDaniel and John Schneider's big man bargains

Seahawks Blog | Seattle TimesAlan Branch wasn't the most successful of Seattle's free-agent signings. He didn't have the impact of someone like Sidney Rice, who led Seattle with 50 catches last season. He never had a game like tight end Zach Miller, who had 142 yards receiving in the Divisional Playoffs against Atlanta. But Branch ranked as a thoroughly effective addition, a player Seattle signed to a two-year, $7 million contract in 2011 who then held down a starting spot for two years in the middle of one of the league's better defenses. Branch's success was relatively modest when compared to importing a Pro Bowler from...

2013 NFL Free Agency: Pour one out for the Percy Harvin dream

Cat Scratch ReaderPercy Harvin has been traded to the Seattle Seahawks for a first round pick, contingent upon both sides working on a long-term agreement. One of the most dangerous teams in the NFL just became lethal in a single move, as Russell Wilson now has Sidney Rice, Percy Harvin, and Golden Tate as his three receivers -- with Marshawn Lynch to tote the ball; it's a dream scenario. Harvin would have been gold in Carolina for a million reasons, but there's no use crying over spilled milk, or missed chances. Instead the Panthers will need to get creative, and by all accounts they're already casting...

NFL Draft 2013: Marquise Goodwin, Ace Sanders, & addressing the lack of a 'Lightning' element to the Seahawks' offense

Field Gulls — I remember listening to a Doug Farrar/Greg Cosell podcast back in early 2011 - the Seahawks had just drafted James Carpenter and John Moffitt, let Matt Hasselbeck go in free agency, brought in Tarvaris Jackson and Sidney Rice, and Marshawn Lynch was yet to really find his groove in the offense - and Cosell said something when describing the Seahawks' offense that really stuck with me. "It is an incredibly slow offense." Now, that was then. Dear lord, remember that team? Cosell was saying this as the Seahawks were coming off of a 2010 season where Mike Williams led the team with 65 rece...

Mike Williams - Mike Williams will receive big payday

The Huddle — Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Mike Williams may look to Buffalo Bills WR Stevie Johnson's five-year, $36 million deal as a benchmark as he discusses a contract extension with the team this offseason. Seattle Seahawks WR Sidney Rice signed a five-year, $41 million deal in 2011 that had more than $18 million in guaranteed money. Huddle Up: Right now Williams is the WR2 in Tampa Bay after the Bucs spent big on Vincent Jackson last offseason. Considering they have an outstanding young running back and a question mark at quarterback, spending big on another wideout doesn't make a ton of sense. So if Wil...
