Darrelle Revis film review: He could help

Darrelle Revis film review: He could help

I can tell you one thing: I definitely did not think I would be spending the night before Thanksgiving breaking down Darrelle Revis’s film. But as the kids say, life comes at you fast. In a move that came as a major surprise, the Chiefs signed the guy known as “Revis Island” to a two year contract with no guaranteed money for 2018 and the veteran minimum in 2017 (loving that structure, by the way). It’s no secret that the secondary has struggled, with Terrance Mitchell seemingly so far in the doghouse that he probably doesn’t remember he’s a person and Acker/Gaines taking turns...

Chiefs changes I’d make: Terrance Mitchell over Kenneth Acker

Chiefs changes I’d make: Terrance Mitchell over Kenneth Acker

It’s the bye week, so it’s a time to talk about both what has happened before now and how we would like to see things happen from here on out. Often (especially when the bye week falls roughly in the midway point of the season) we use this time to discuss what we think the Chiefs should do differently. I’ve already written about what the Chiefs did differently with the run defense against the Cowboys here (brought in KPL on nickel sets, more bear fronts, more Bennie Logan in nickel, more gap attacking) and I believe they should continue to go the same direction moving forward if they...

Chiefs CB Terrance Mitchell handled his demotion “like a pro”

The Kansas City Chiefs benched Terrance Mitchell Monday night against the Denver Broncos, replacing him with cornerback Kenneth Acker, who was on the field for all 73 of the Chiefs’ defensive snaps. Mitchell didn’t play at all. According to Reid, Mitchell handled the demotion as well as someone could. “He’s a competitive guy, so I’m sure he wanted to be in there—that’s how he is,” Reid explained. “But, I thought he handled it like a pro and he wasn’t a distraction. He’s always had a good attitude and he maintained that during this.” According to Pro Football Focus,...

Chiefs new look secondary passes the first test

Chiefs new look secondary passes the first test

A surprise before the Chiefs Monday Night Football game against the Broncos when cornerback Kenneth Acker was spotted running with the first team in warmups. He did end up starting the game over Terrance Mitchell and the Chiefs also saw the return of Steven Nelson who played the slot. The result? Pretty good. Marcus Peters had a pick, a fumble and a touchdown. The interception, that was an awful play by Trevor Siemian and looked like the easiest pick of Peters’ career. The fumble was pure Peters. I get on him about not tackling and trying to go for the fumble ... until it works! The...
