49ers film review: Was Torrey Smith open vs. Richard Sherman?

Torrey Smith was open against the Seahawks (49ers.com) Is 49ers wide receiver Torrey Smith right when he states that he was open against the Seahawks? A film review of Smith’s game on Oct. 23, reveals that Smith was absolutely correct when he said he was open when guarded by Seattle All-Pro cornerback Richard Sherman. The 49ers lost 20-3, and Smith was targeted once on a short passing route in the second half which he dropped. That was his only catchable throw of the night. He might have dropped that pass out of sheer frustration, after failing to get a pass thrown his way, particularly in...

Five Ravens Questions with Baltimore Beatdown

Nathan Beaucage from Baltimore Beatdown stops by to answer some last-minute questions about the Ravens before their game against the San Diego Chargers. 1. What's the biggest dropoff between last year's Ravens and this year's? Is it just a matter of a tougher schedule? Injuries and a lack of depth have killed us this year, much like what cost us last year. Our secondary was mediocre to begin with, and now it's trash with everyone injured. 2. How/why did Baltimore let Torrey Smith go? Money. Torrey was simply asking for too much for us to keep him around. And I think we are going to see that...

Bold Predictions for Week 8

For Ravens-Chargers. Some of these will come as a surprise; some won't.  Any reader regularly following my writing knows I have a low opinion of the Ravens' secondary--as most metrics say I should.  But this has almost nothing to do with metrics.  The secondary, with the notable exception of Will Hill, has been far, far less aggressive than in the past, and has been schemed to provide large cushions in coverage to start plays.  Theoretically this makes it less likely that the secondary will give up huge plays--except that this has not helped.  Torrey Smith's torcher from two week ago,...

Torrey Smith: 'Kap isn't on a damn island'

Shut out last game, Torrey Smith spoke up in defense of Colin Kaepernick and insisted the 49ers are "still together" behind their embattled quarterback. "We’re losing. It’s tough. It’s frustrating. Torrey Smith welcomes the challenge facing the 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers 2015 season has been abysmal in most respects, and naturally there will be questions raised about the players. Are they getting angry, are they quitting on the team, how will this team hold up? Torrey Smith is the most notable addition to the 49ers this year, and given his previous success in Baltimore, it is not surprising he is getting questions about whether he regrets his decision to join the 49ers. He had this to say over the weekend: Not one bit...I think long and hard about my decisions so I have no regrets...still thankful...different challenge...
