Hynoski focused on being ready for season opener

The Blue Screen | New York Daily News — The Giants spent the first day of on field OTAs learning what life would be like without Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks. They will spend a few weeks learning what it's like without their unsung fullback. Henry Hynoski, who was injured on the second play of 11-on-11s, underwent an MRI Wednesday ...

Eli Manning missing starters, but gets work in with other receivers

Big Blue View — The New York Giants were missing Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz on the first day of OTAs on Wednesday, but that just opened the door for the other wide receivers in blue to receive increased repetitions with the first-string offense. Rueben Randle and Jerrel Jernigan replaced Nicks and Cruz as starters in seven-on-seven and 11-on-11 drills, with newcomer Louis Murphy also seeing plenty of action. It was a chance for Murphy in particular to get acclimated with his new quarterback, Eli Manning, and while the reps were important to the replacements, Manning is going to need his starters bac...

Victor Cruz, Hakeem Nicks don't catch Giants OTA

Newsday — It was only the first OTA of spring, but in case anyone underestimates the value of Giants wide receivers Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks, their absence from Wednesday's workout underscored it. Cruz is involved in contract negotiations and wasn't expected to take part, but the surprise absence of Nicks threw a monkey wrench into coach Tom Coughlin's day.

Victor Cruz is away, so Jerrel Jernigan will play

Newsday — One man’s contract dispute is another man’s opportunity, so, third-year wide receiver Jerrel Jernigan knows now is the time to make an impression on the Giants’ coaching staff while Pro Bowl receiver Victor Cruz sits out during contract negotiations. Jernigan was the “Z” receiver in place of Cruz during Wednesday’s first OTA practice of the spring.

Jernigan, Murphy step up to the plate

Giants Blog | ESPN New York — EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The biggest story of the Giants' first organized team activities of the offseason was the absence of Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz. The biggest opportunity went to the wide receivers who got increased reps in their places. Rueben Randle and Jerrel Jernigan served as the starters in seven-on-seven and 11-on-11 drills, and new addition Louis Murphy saw plenty of action too. "I saw a flash play here and there. So that’s a good thing," said coach Tom Coughlin, when asked about Jernigan and Murphy.

Louis Murphy gets reps with Cruz, Nicks missing

Big Blue View — New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning did not have either of his primary targets to throw to during Wednesday's OTA, with Hakeem Nicks absent and Victor Cruz still negotiating a contract. Thus, Manning spent his time getting acclimated with Louis Murphy, the fifth-year wide receiver signed as a free agent during the offseason. Manning reportedly spent a lot of time looking for the speedy Murphy, particularly on deep balls, as he and his newst receiving target get to know each other. "I hit Louis on a deep one. I got Rueben [Randle] in there. I got [Jerrel] Jernigan some catches," Man...

Coughlin annoyed with Nicks missing Giants OTAs: 'He should be here'

Giants Blog | New York Post — APEli Manning (pictured), along with coach Tom Coughlin, was confused why Hakeem Nicks missed Giants OTAs. Everyone knew Victor Cruz would not be in attendance Wednesday at the Giants’ first OTA practice, as his lingering contract negotiations continue to chug along. There was a strong expectation, though, that Hakeem Nicks would be on the scene and his absence was not appreciated. “He should be here,’’ Tom Coughlin said with no small measure of annoyance. Nicks was at a charity event Tuesday night at the Waldorf Astoria, as he was honored as a Hometown Hero at the United Way of New Yor...

OTA Preview: New York Giants hit the field

Big Blue View — The New York Giants hit the Timex Performance Center field at 10:50 a.m. ET Wednesday for their first of two on-field sessions during the latest phase of offseason team activities. The second on-field practice will be Thursday. It seems extremely unlikely Victor Cruz will be attending the workouts. The wide receiver still has not signed a contract, either his restricted free agency tender or a new long-term deal. It would also seem unlikely that rehabbing veterans like Chris Snee, Hakeem Nicks, David Baas, David Diehl and Terrell Thomas will spend much, if any, time on the field. Don't...

  • Victor Cruz: Lots of talk, but no contract
