Wes Welker cleared to travel — not play — for Broncos-Cowboys game

Wes Welker was cleared to fly with the Broncos for their final preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Super Bowl prediction

In the AFC, I’m leaning toward the Broncos because of the significant additions they’ve made to their defense — DeMarcus Ware, T.J. Ward, Aqib Talib and Bradley Roby. Yes, Wes Welker has a soft head and could be through at any time. But I have a hard time getting excited about any other AFC team […]

Wes Welker cleared to travel

Not cleared for contact ARLINGTON, Texas - Wes Welker was cleared to fly with the Broncos for their final preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. Welker has not yet been medically cleared from his concussion to engage in contact, so he won't play in the game Thursday night at AT&T Stadium. (Denver Post) FF Today's Take: Wes Welker (concussion) is making progress but it is too soon to know if he will be available for the team's opening game. He has reached the exercise stage of recovery but he must be cleared for contact by late next week to have a chance at playing week...

Demaryius Thomas contract talks could heat up thanks to Dez Bryant - Horse Tracks

Demaryius Thomas, Matt Prater, Wes Welker, and Cowboys talk for your Wednesday orange and blue coffee. We start today by talking about Demaryius Thomas' contract situation, and how the Broncos' opponent this week, the Dallas Cowboys, may have impacted it. Dez Bryant of the Cowboys wants a top-five WR deal, and just like the Broncos' Thomas, he's set to become a free agent in the spring. He's given the Cowboys a deadline of the season opener, and talks have resumed. Heated up even. A deal isn't imminent, but traction has been gained. That's more than the Broncos and Thomas have been...

Welker Making Progress In Concussion Tests

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Broncos coach John Fox said Wes Welker is doing "fantastic" in the concussion protocol.Fantasy Spin:Welker has sustained three concussions since Nov. 17. He'll need to be symptom-free by next Monday to be eligible to return to a full practice in time for the Sept. 7 season opener and it looks like he's going to be ready. However, he's extremely risky because one hit could end his career. Emmanuel Sanders will get a huge boost in fantasy value, as will rookie Cody Latimer to a lesser extent, if Welker goes down.

The Defenseless Player Rule & Application: D.J. Swearinger v. Wes Welker

In Houston's game against the Denver Broncos last Saturday, Texans' safety D.J. Swearinger was flagged for unnecessary roughness after inadvertently hitting Broncos' receiver Wes Welker in the head. Welker was later diagnosed with a concussion, his third in less than a year. What's the rule, and was it applied correctly? First and foremost, I think I speak for a majority of folks who all wish Wes Welker a speedy recovery.  Our own bfd outlined the scary reality of brain injuries; and most fans do not want to see players become crippled from playing this game. As often happens from an NFL...
