Pride Of Detroit Since the start of free agency, the Detroit Lions have been connected to free-agent defensive ends like William Hayes, Michael Bennett, Osi Umenyiora and Elvis Dumervil. All of those players ended up signing with other teams, but given the Lions' need for help at defensive end, it's no surprise that they were at one time connected to Detroit. It's also no surprise that the Lions have finally been linked to free-agent defensive end Dwight Freeney. The interesting thing is that the Lions aren't being named as having interest in Freeney. It's actually the other way around. According to NF...

Turf Show Times Throw out everything you've heard about the draft earlier than today out. The pictures are starting to get clearer, targets are being honed in on, and things are coming into place. The Rams, up to this point, have primarily targeted Jake Long, Louis Delmas, (and signed) Jared Cook and William Hayes. Can we glean any information from that for the Rams draft plans? Maybe. Or perhaps I'm just stretching it for page views. You'll never know. Athleticism on Offense The Rams were linked to Victor Cruz early on, but such a move was pretty farfetched. Instead, the Rams moved in on Jared Cook...

Pride Of Detroit Just before the start of NFL free agency, the St. Louis Rams re-signed defensive end William Hayes, according to USA Today's Mike Garafolo. It was expected that Hayes would hit the open market, but the Rams managed to get him back under contract just in time. This is a blow to the Detroit Lions' attempt to rebuild their depth at defensive end. Hayes was viewed as an ideal fit for the Lions, and they reportedly were "actively pursuing" him. Given his connection to Lions head coach Jim Schwartz from their time in Tennessee together and the fact that the Lions could offer him playing time...

Turf Show Times Jeff Fisher said that the St. Louis Rams' first priority in free agency would be hanging onto their own guys. That finally happened on Tuesday with the team coming to terms with defensive end William Hayes, less than hour before he hit the free agent market. Rams have agreed to terms with DE William Hayes. — Jim Thomas (@jthom1) March 12, 2013 Hayes was a one-year flyer for the Rams in 2012, signed to a one-year, $1 million deal to bolster the depth on the defensive line. He came from Tennessee where he played for Jeff Fisher. Prior to landing with the Rams, Hayes was a part-time ...

Pride Of Detroit The Detroit Lions are "actively pursuing" free-agent defensive end William Hayes, according to MLive's Anwar Richardson. Hayes officially becomes a free agent on Tuesday, and the Lions are apparently one of several teams with interest in him. If Hayes' name sounds familiar, it's because he was mentioned as a good fit for the Lions a couple weeks ago. The declaration stems from his connection to Lions head coach Jim Schwartz, as Hayes was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in 2008. Schwartz's final year in Tennessee was 2008, so Hayes played for him for one season. More: 2013 Detroit Lio...

Turf Show Times St. Louis Rams defensive end Williams Hayes will have suitors on the free agent market this year. One of those interested teams has already emerged. The Detroit Lions are said to be in hot pursuit of Hayes, according to a report on Monday afternoon from M Live. It's a fairly obvious fit with Hayes in Detroit. Jim Schwartz was the Titans defensive coordinator in 2008, Hayes' rookie year. The Lions also have a big need at the position with Cliff Avril likely to walk. That Hayes is in demand comes as no surprise to Rams fans who watched the rotation defensive end in the best season of h...

Turf Show Times The St. Louis Rams improved on defense last season, moving from 22nd in total defense to 14th. For a team without a defensive coordinator last season, that was a big jump. The team did add some important players like Janoris Jenkins, Jo-Lonn Dunbar, Cortland Finnegan, and first-round pick Michael Brockers. Those players are important pieces to the Rams, but one name that is rarely mentioned is William Hayes. Hayes was drafted by Rams head coach Jeff Fisher in 2008 in the 4th round while he was coaching the Tennessee Titans. Hayes was brought in last season to be a backup defensive line...

Turf Show Times William Hayes, Rams No joking about this guys. Hayes is one of the best free agent DE's on the market, and it's probably good that he's still flying under the radar. He was one of the best defensive ends against the run last year, and also was spectacular against the pass. He could easily be a starter elsewhere, but hopefully playing for Fisher is enough to keep him around. The Rams could certainly use him. Pride Of Detroit The Detroit Lions currently have only one defensive end under contract. That's Ronnell Lewis, who played all of one snap on defense last season. They will also retain the rights to restricted free agent Willie Young if they decide to tender him a contract offer, but they have a lot of work to do with this position when free agency opens. While it's expected that the Lions will try to re-sign Lawrence Jackson and Cliff Avril, there's no telling if either will be back. Jackson is certainly more likely to return than Avril, but either way, the Lions are likely going to be in need of more ...
