Lions-Saints player of the game: Who gets the game ball?

Lions-Saints player of the game: Who gets the game ball?

Just a handful of players had a good game against the Saints. Let’s honor one of them. For the second straight week, the Detroit Lions dropped an egg and looked just plain awful against good competition. As far as a team effort, it was a flat, uninspiring performance. But there were a few good individual performances against the New Orleans Saints worth praising, so let’s hand out a game ball like we always do. Here are the Game Ball standings through five games: Darius Slay - 4Matthew Stafford - 4Glover Quin - 3Ezekiel Ansah - 3Anthony Zettel - 3Jarrad Davis - 3Darren Fells - 2Jamal...

Lions injury report: Lang, Ansah return to practice; Stafford still not limited by injury

The Lions nearly had full participation during Thursday’s practice. T.J. Lang and Ezekiel Ansah returned to practice on Thursday after what is becoming a somewhat regular Wednesday off. As a team, the only Detroit Lions player that missed practice due to an injury was Paul Worrilow, who continues to heal after suffering a knee injury during Week 4’s game against the Vikings. Initial reports said Worrilow would miss 2-4 weeks. Greg Robinson was also absent from Thursday’s practice, but the official report states it is not injury related. Kenny Golladay participated in practice for the...

Lions notes: Miles Killebrew donates money to victims of Vegas terrorist attack

The Lions safety was personally affected by the tragedy, so he decided to do something about it. Detroit Lions safety Miles Killebrew was personally affected by the mass shooting in Las Vegas last week. Several of his friends were injured in the tragedy. Now, he’s doing his part to help. Per this story from ESPN, Killebrew has donated an undisclosed amount to a local church, which is offering aid to those affected. In other philanthropic news, defensive end Ezekiel Ansah was named NFLPA’s Community MVP Week 4 runner-up for hosting a spa day for breast cancer survivors last week:...

Detroit Lions vs. Carolina Panthers stock report

Detroit Lions vs. Carolina Panthers stock report

The Lions came in prepared for the first couple of drives, but the wheels came off quickly and they never recovered. The Detroit Lions lost to the Carolina Panthers by three points, but those watching the game know that the score doesn’t tell the whole story. The Lions were out-coached and out-played for more than 50 minutes of football and they never adjusted or started executing better until it was too late. Fans were quick to point the blame to an Eric Ebron drop in the end zone, but a career-bad game by Darius Slay and Ziggy Ansah contributed far more to the loss than one pass play...

Injury report: T.J. Lang, Ezekiel Ansah return to practice Thursday

The Lions got two main contributors back in practice Thursday. Both T.J. Lang and Ezekiel Ansah returned to Lions practice on Thursday. Lang was held out of practice Wednesday with a new fibula injury. Obviously, there was significant concern since it was a bone injury, but it appears it is not too serious, because Lang was a full participant on Thursday. Ansah returns after taking a day of rest because of a knee injury that has been bothering him since the beginning of training camp. At this point, there’s no reason to expect Ansah to sit. However, receiver Kenny Golladay was absent from...

Falcons vs. Lions: Top Matchups to Watch

Falcons vs. Lions: Top Matchups to Watch

Ezekiel Ansah could be scarier than Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Michael Aprile is the editor-in-chief of fellow Falcons site Rise Up Reader, where you can find more Falcons coverage. He is a cohost of the new Falcoholic post-game podcast that airs weekly. When looking at the Falcons’ schedule before this season started, the Week 3 game against the Detroit Lions was one that I admittedly skimmed over quickly, confidently scribbling a presumptuous win on the team calendar stuck up on my fridge. “The Lions? Didn’t they go 0-16 once? That’s a win,” I may have said aloud. But then I...

Atlanta Falcons talk: How will Ty Sambrailo fare against the Lions?

Atlanta Falcons talk: How will Ty Sambrailo fare against the Lions?

We’re hopeful the team’s new swing tackle will be able to hold off the Lions. Ty Sambrailo has started quite a few games in his young NFL career, but none with the Atlanta Falcons. I hope it doesn’t cause him any great offense to note that I had really hoped he would never have to start in 2017. That said, Sambrailo held up reasonably well after a shaky start against the Green Bay Packers, and this time around he won’t be thrust into a game cold off the sideline. Unless Ziggy Ansah moves over to his side to rush, he won’t exactly face the game’s most intimidating set of pass...

The Giants see no need to move Ereck Flowers

Ereck Flowers is not going anywhere and is staying at left tackle for the Giants. “Absolutely,’ coach Ben McAdoo said Tuesday when asked if Flowers would remain the starter. Flowers allowed three sacks to Lions defensive end Ziggy Ansah in Monday night’s 24-10 loss to Detroit, a continuation of a rough third season for the...

Around the NFL: Eli sacked by a ghost; no Luck in Indy

While the Colts struggle without Andrew Luck, our rivals in the Big Apple struggle to block anyone...including phantom pass rushers. Eli Manning somehow took a sack without getting touched Andrew Joseph, USA Today Eli Manning’s pass protection was an issue all night against the Lions. It got so bad that he was practically anticipating sacks before they happened. During Monday’s game, Manning stepped up in the pocket then scrambled to evade the rush of Ezekiel Ansah. Manning fell to the ground, and in real time, it looked like Ansah tripped Manning up. Replays, however, revealed...
