Lions WR Marvin Jones avoids ACL or MCL tear, day-to-day with bone bruise

The Detroit Lions were unable to get back into the win column following a loss to the Chicago Bears. Fortunately, it appears wide receiver Marvin Jones may have dodged a bullet. No-huddle proved to be a game-changer as the Bears quickly pulled away from the Lions in the first half

After the second play of the game Sunday, the call came from the Bears sideline, loud and clearly audible on the television broadcast. “Zebra!” The Bears hurried onto the field with their zerbra personnel (one running back, three wide receivers and one tight end). In this instance, it was running...

JUST IN: Detroit Lions waive cornerback who nobody really knew

On Sunday, the Detroit Lions went into Soldier Field with the hopes of shocking the NFC North division-leading Chicago Bears. Instead, the Lions were embarrassed early and often on their way to a (closer than the score indicated) 34-22 loss. A day later, somebody had to take the fall! According to the Lions, they have waived Lenzy Pipkins, a cornerback who nobody really knew. The #Lions have waived CB Lenzy Pipkins. — Detroit Lions (@Lions) November 12, 2018 In two games for the Lions this season, Pipkins has just one tackle. Injury update: Marvin Jones Jr. day-to-day, no ACL/MCL tear

It looks like Marvin Jones avoided a major injury. Not only were the Detroit Lions big losers this weekend after a lackluster performance against the Chicago Bears, but several players incurred injuries that left the team quite shorthanded at the end of the game. One of the most notable injuries was to wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr., who came up gimpy after a fourth quarter catch. The team announced he was questionable to return with a knee injury, but he did not make it back on the field. There is good news, however, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Jones did not suffer an...

Bears vs. Lions: Snap counts, stats, and more

We’ll list out the complete playing time breakdown, and spotlight a few individual and team statistics from the Chicago Bears in their 34-22 owning of the Detroit Lions. ...and with an emphatic spike, Mitchell Trubisky told his critics to kiss his ass. It seems funny that in a season where the Chicago Bears’ second year quarterback is on pace to break all the franchise’s passing records, that he has so many critics sounding off about his “bad” play. I realized weeks ago that some would rather be right about their pre-draft “grade” on Trubisky, than to actually watch him play...

Was Jeff Joniak too easy on Bears kicker Cody Parkey's terrible day?

The Lions were “left to hang around here because of certain circumstances,” Bears announcer Jeff Joniak said in the middle of the fourth quarter Sunday at Soldier Field, “Certain circumstances.” That sounds like something said when denying an insurance claim, not a reference to football special...

Lions DT Damon Harrison’s post-game honesty is a breath of fresh air

Lions DT Damon Harrison’s post-game honesty is a breath of fresh air

Harrison was hard on himself, but also helped inform the fanbase. Amidst all the bad things that happened to the Detroit Lions on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, the one saving grace was their run defense. Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen combined for just 36 yards on 18 carries (2.0 YPC). This is a team that ranked seventh in rushing DVOA coming into Week 9 and the Lions completely stopped them. Most credit goes to Damon Harrison Sr., who led the Lions with six solo tackles on the day, including one for a loss. The man has single-handedly transformed the Lions’ run defense efficiency,...

Bears vs. Lions: Notes from an electric 34-22 victory

Bears vs. Lions: Notes from an electric 34-22 victory

The Bears let their large lead slip away a bit, but they held on enough to improve to 6-3 on the year. The Chicago Bears kicked off the second half of their regular season on a high note, defeating the Detroit Lions 34-22. Though it was far from a perfect win, it was a win, and an important one at that. The Bears improved to 6-3 with a divisional victory and extended their lead in the NFC North. Here are some of my takeaways from Sunday’s action. Offense Mitchell Trubisky is not Blake Bortles. Trubisky had one of the best games of his career this week. He ended up completing 23 of his 30...

Lions Week 10 report card: Coaches “F” it up vs. Bears

Lions Week 10 report card: Coaches “F” it up vs. Bears

Handing out some more horrible grades to the Lions after a loss to Chicago. The Detroit Lions’ loss to the Chicago Bears was nothing new. The same, consistent problems reared their ugly heads, which means this is going to be a familiar report card, but one particularly harsh on the coaches. Let’s get into it. Quarterbacks: D Much like last week, Matthew Stafford was hardly the only problem in Sunday’s game, but he was indeed part of the problem Early on, the Lions offense sputtered because poor running plays set Stafford and the Lions offense behind the sticks. But Stafford had his...
