Golden Nuggets: 49ers are losing games better than last year

Golden Nuggets: 49ers are losing games better than last year

Your San Francisco 49ers links for Saturday, September 22 Like many of you, I threw a fit at the end of that Thursday Night Football showing with the 49ers getting a clumsy call by a ref. It really wouldn’t have bothered me if it wasn’t for the fact you hear about how the refs AREN’T going to throw a flag for something like that at that point in the game (see Super Bowl 47), yet one of the most ticky-tack plays ever, the refs step in and hand the Los Angeles Rams the game on a silver platter. I’ll go more into how that probably is the better outcome in the scheme of things later...

Niners Nation DOOM Index: Post-Week 3 loss to Rams edition

Offensive pass interference offensive pass interference offensive pass interference offensive pass interference offensive pass interference offensive paDOOOOOOMED! The San Francisco 49ers have come so close to winning each of their last two games, but have come up short both times. They are 0-3 to start the season, which isn’t that surprising in the grand scheme of thing, but that game against the Los Angeles Rams definitely hurt. It’s a game that was out of hand from the opening whistle, though the silver lining is that the 49ers put themselves back into it. I’m not into the concept...

49ers-Rams film study: Looking at Brian Hoyer’s interceptions

49ers-Rams film study: Looking at Brian Hoyer’s interceptions

Hoyer had a big interception to start the game and another on a two-point conversion attempt in Week 3. Brian Hoyer had a good game against the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday. It was his best game as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, one where he opened one and finally made some big plays deep. He looked good throwing deep and he was generally decisive, a welcome change. But he wasn’t perfect. Hoyer opened the Thursday Night Football matchup with an interception that set the Rams up for a quick touchdown in a game filled with them. He also was intercepted on a two-point conversion...

Tank Carradine has high ankle sprain, injured reserve a possibility

Carradine injured his ankle against the Rams and things aren’t looking good for the 49ers defensive end. San Francisco 49ers defensive end Tank Carradine has a high ankle sprain after Thursday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Friday that the team will have to make a decision about whether or not to place him on injured reserve. That indicates it’s a severe ankle sprain, to be sure. Surgery likely isn’t needed, at the very least, and Shanahan said that the team will likely make a decision on Monday. At the time of Friday’s conference, they had...

Brian Hoyer on Trent Taylor penalty: ‘I don’t want to get fined’

49ers quarterback Brian Hoyer talked about Taylor’s offensive pass interference penalty from Thursday’s game against the Rams. Everybody watching the San Francisco 49ers vs. Los Angeles Rams game on Thursday Night Football was robbed by a controversial offensive pass interference call on wide receiver Trent Taylor late. That call stymied any chance the 49ers had at winning the game and it was a pretty weak call. Quarterback Brian Hoyer was asked about the call during the postgame press conference and his initial reaction was very telling. “I don’t want to get fined,” he...

Brian Hoyer is going to be a roller-coaster of emotion for 49ers fans

The 49ers QB bounced back in the fourth quarter or Thursday Night Football The San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams put together a matchup on Thursday that was significantly entertaining than I think most any of us expected. It looked like it would be ugly early, with quarterback Brian Hoyer throwing an interception on the first play of the game. But Hoyer and the rest of the offense bounced back late in the 41-39 loss. Prior to the game, I tweeted an article where I asked people if the 49ers would score a touchdown against the Rams. The 49ers entered the game having no touchdowns on...

49ers-Rams final score: 9 things we learned

The 49ers lost a wild one on Thursday Night Football. Here’s what the game told us. The San Francisco 49ers lost a tough one in Week 3, dropping Thursday Night Football to the Los Angeles Rams by a final score of 41-39. The team looked out of it a couple different times, but kept fighting back. They couldn’t close the deal late, but it was still a wildly entertaining game. Time to start seeing what we learned from it. 1. Brian Hoyer can fight back from adversity At halftime, and even into the fourth quarter, I was not happy with how Brian Hoyer was playing. Nobody was. And yet, he...

49ers notes: Secondary gets lit up and injuries mount in loss to Rams

A pair of red zone penalties called against the 49ers' secondary on Thursday night highlighted the frustrations the unit had against Jared Goff and the Los Angeles Rams

Comes up short after short turnaround

On Sunday, it was proclaimed that the 49ers’ defense was going to be the strength of the team. The defense, loaded with top draft picks, held Seattle to one touchdown and 312 yards. Got pressure on Russell Wilson all game. Contained the Seahawks to 3.9 yards per play. But all that changed just four days later. On Thursday, the 49ers’ defense did not look like the strongest part of the team. Jared Goff and the Rams scored five touchdowns, finding huge holes in the seams. The Rams accumulated 418 yards and averaged 7 yards a play. Goff was not sacked...

49ers’ game grades vs. Rams

Offense Brian Hoyer’s first-play interception was an awful start. And the 49ers’ failed final drive was a poor finish. In between? Hey, look, an offense. Hoyer took some hellacious hits, but recovered from those (and his first pass) to deliver a gutty 332-yard performance. Pierre Garcon (142 yards) showed why they shelled out big bucks in free agency. Defense They were no doubt fatigued from a 79-snap Sunday, but still: The Rams took a time machine and resembled the Greatest Show on Turf. QB Jared...

49ers’ Jaquiski Tartt kicked in head, sidelined

The 49ers’ safety situation Thursday night wasn’t as dire at the start of the game as it appeared it might be earlier in the week. Strong safety Jaquiski Tartt, who was questionable with a neck injury, started against the Rams in place of Eric Reid, who is expected to miss multiple games with a knee injury. On Monday, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Tartt was hurting and termed him questionable to play, although Tartt didn’t miss a snap in a 12-9 loss at Seattle on Sunday. Tartt , though, was knocked out of the game and was being evaluated for a possible...

49ers fall to 0-3 after comeback against Rams falls short; Goff throws three TDs

Brian Hoyer started the night with an interception and ended it on his back — sacked by Aaron Donald to end the 49ers’ last gasp. In between, it was a night of frantic scoring, crazy comebacks and mounting injuries. It all added up to the a 41-39 loss in a primetime game at Levi’s […]

49ers lose wild shootout to Rams, 41-39

The 49ers have a touchdown this season. A win? Not so fast. The 49ers broke one ignominious streak, but a few others remained intact as they fell 41-39 to the Rams in a wildly entertaining and thoroughly unexpected offensive shootout Thursday night at Levi’s Stadium. With the defeat, which included their first touchdowns of the season, the 49ers lost their third straight game to open the Kyle Shanahan era and extended their franchise-record home losing streak to nine games dating to Sept. 12, 2016. In a...

Carlos Hyde questionable to return with hip injury

The 49ers can’t afford to lose their top offensive weapon. San Francisco 49ers running back Carlos Hyde is officially questionable to return to Thursday Night Football against the Los Angeles Rams. Sideline reporter Heather Cox reported that the training staff is checking out his hip and the official designation is questionable. Hyde suffered the injury in the first quarter. He left the field, came back on to convert a third down, and then left a game. Cox said the training staff has been using some heat to loosen things up in his hip, so we’ll see how that takes. He has his helmet on...

TNF Open Thread: Los Angeles Rams at San Francisco 49ers

Tonight the Los Angeles Rams travel to Santa Clara to take on their division rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. The Rams are looking to bounce back after losing to the Washington Redskins while the 49ers are still searching for their first win of the season. Neither team is likely to figure into the playoff race this year, but hey maybe you have Carlos Hyde or Todd Gurley on your fantasy team. Or perhaps like me, you have Pierre Garcon on your bench and you’re just hoping you don’t end up regretting the decision to sit him this week. Whatever your reason for watching, feel free to discuss...
