After the Whistle...Won’t Back Down

After the Whistle...Won’t Back Down

On the official Redskins aftershow of Hogs Haven, The Audible reflects on the Monday Night Football loss to the Chiefs. After four weeks of football, we have learned a ton about the Washington Redskins. Most of what we have learned has been fairly positive, albeit with some glaring deficiencies rearing their ugly heads at inopportune times. I think it would be fair to say that the drama has been compelling thus far into the 2017 campaign, leading to some amazing television. Covering the television show that is Redskins football is The Audible, on its weekly “After the Whistle” episode....

A look at the stats and snap counts for every defensive and special teams player on the Redskins in the team's Week 4 showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football Snaps- All 23 active defenders played over the course of a season-high 76 defensive snaps against the Chiefs. All but 5 of those 23 players got at least 18 snaps for Greg Manusky's unit. The only three defenders that did not get any action were inactive (Anthony Lanier, Josh Harvey-Clemons and Joshua Holsey). Quarterback Pressure- Getting pressure on the quarterback was one of the few things the defense did well...

Josh Doctson’s near-TD at end of loss to Chiefs came on one of Redskins’ staple plays

With less than two minutes remaining against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday night, the Washington Redskins faced a critical third and short situation, needing a field goal to draw level or a touchdown to take the lead. Quarterback Kirk Cousins took an end zone shot to wide receiver Josh Doctson, who couldn’t quite manage […]

Chiefs snap counts for the Redskins game has some o-line movement

Chiefs snap counts for the Redskins game has some o-line movement

I noted in last week’s snap counts post that the opponents were running a lot more offensive plays than the Kansas City Chiefs. I can report that didn’t last long because the Chiefs ran 76 offensive plays compared to 50 for the Redskins in Monday’s game. That’s quite a gap, especially for a team that needed a 59 minutes and 56 seconds to win. Redskins-Chiefs snap counts.... Quarterback QB Alex Smith: 76 Alex Smith even came out for the final two point conversion where they downed it. That was a perfect time to get Patrick Mahomes some experience kneeling the ball in victory...

Redskins Coach Jay Gruden says he wouldn’t change in hindsight how he handled the game clock during the final minute of Monday night’s 29-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Down 20-17 late in the fourth quarter, the Redskins faced a third and two at the 22-yard line. Gruden burned his first timeout with 57 seconds left in the game. […]

Jay Gruden: Redskins can compete with anyone; injury updates going into bye week

Jay Gruden gives updates after last night's loss to the Chiefs Redskins Head Coach Jay Gruden held a conference call with reporters today to give some updates following last night's loss to the Chiefs. The game featured several Redskins players leaving the game and some playing through injuries. The biggest loss in the game was #1 CB Josh Norman leaving with a rib injury. It was reported during the game that he would miss several weeks. Gruden said today he is week to week with a rib fracture, but there is a chance he plays the 49ers after the bye. The Redskins also got a scare when LT...

With the Redskins right in the thick of a division title battle, the bye week comes at perfect time

The Redskins hobble into the bye week following another Kansas City defeat After an uninspiring season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the Redskins put together a string of three impressive performances before their early-season bye week to finish the first quarter of the season at 2-2. Injuries to Josh Norman and Montae Nicholson are big moving forward, but numerous players went down on both sides of the ball and a week off following a physically tough first month of the season will benefit the Redskins this season. The Chiefs were a measuring stick for Washington to see where...

Why the Chiefs are off to overwhelming start

Why the Chiefs are off to overwhelming start

And then there was one. The Chiefs, after their 29-20 comeback victory over the Redskins on Monday night, are the NFL’s only undefeated team at 4-0. There are a number of reasons for Kansas City’s success, beginning with veteran quarterback Alex Smith and rookie running back Kareem Hunt on offense and a defense that is...

Two funny moments during Alex Smith’s press conference after the Chiefs win

Two funny moments during Alex Smith’s press conference after the Chiefs win

Things are a lot more comfortable in the interview room after a win because the press isn’t grilling Andy Reid or the players trying to figure out why they lost a game. Alex Smith was more comfortable on Monday night after he led the Chiefs to a comeback win over the Redskins, 29-20. There were two funny moments that stood out. First, a reporter was asking Alex Smith about the pass to Albert Wilson late in the game when they were driving for the game winning field goal. Alex had scrambled to his right, kept his eyes downfield and found Wilson for the big gain. It was a huge play in the...

Arrowheadlines: Chiefs heroes of the game, what the Redskins are saying

KC Chiefs-Washington Redskins game recap 10/2/17 | The Kansas City Star The third hero was receiver Chris Conley, who caught a clutch 10-yard pass over the middle to set up the fourth hero, rookie kicker Harrison Butker. Butker, who was signed this week to replace injured kicker Cairo Santos, had missed his first field-goal attempt of the game hours earlier. He bounced back to connect on his last three attempts, including the decisive 43-yarder to put the Chiefs ahead 23-20. “I didn’t have butterflies,” Butker said. “I felt confident. … I knew it was gonna come down to a field...

Redskins vs. Chiefs final score: Alex Smith, Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce power KC to 29-20 win

Redskins vs. Chiefs final score: Alex Smith, Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce power KC to 29-20 win

It wasn’t pretty but the Kansas City Chiefs did it on Monday Night Football and beat the Washington Redskins, 29-20, to move to 4-0 on the season. The Chiefs are the last undefeated team in the NFL and it didn’t come without some drama. The Redskins tied the game up with 50 seconds left but Alex Smith led the Chiefs back to field goal range and new kicker, Harrison Butker, who was signed last week after an injury to Cairo Santos, kicked the game winner. BUTKER! Ballgame. *The Chiefs added another TD from Justin Houston after the Redskins tried lateraling it on the final play. Final...

Redskins cornerback Josh Norman expected to be out several weeks with rib injury

The Washington Redskins are expected to be without cornerback Josh Norman for several weeks after he injured his ribs in the first half of Monday night’s contest against the Kansas City Chiefs. Norman left the game right before the two-minute warning after suffering the injury tackling wide receiver Chris Conley on a 21-yard gain. He […]

Chiefs’ Travis Kelce caught a TD pass and then he started dancing

I love this play from the Kansas City Chiefs. I love it because it shows Alex Smith, who has been getting drilled all game long, standing in there with a hit coming and making the pass. The Chiefs line has injuries, the Redskins front has been very good and so it’s been a long day for Alex. Laurent Duvernay-Tardif injured early in Redskins-Chiefs game

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif injured early in Redskins-Chiefs game

The Kansas City Chiefs Laurent Duvernay-Tardif to injury in Monday’s game against the Washington Redskins. We don’t know what the exact injury is but LDT went down on the Chiefs third offensive play of the game. It appeared to be his leg or knee from what I could tell. He walked off with help from trainers. Losing LDT would be awful because he is not only a great player but the Chiefs already had LT Eric Fisher on the injury report all week and starting C Mitch Morse is out for a few weeks with an injury. They are already low on depth so any longterm injury would hurt. Additionally, the...

NFL Week 4 2017: Monday Night Football

NFL Week 4 2017: Monday Night Football

A war cry and a victory chant shall be heard from someone tonight The final game of the NFL Season Week 4 is upon us and it should be a good one. The Chiefs take on the Redskins at 8:30 p.m. ET in Kansas City, Missouri at Arrowhead Stadium. There has been no rookie more exciting to watch so far this season than Kareem Hunt and the argument is non-existent, no one has come even close to what he is doing. Will we continue to see the same kind of production from him tonight? For those playing against him in fantasy leagues, they’re begging not, and it is safe to say the Redskins feel the...
