NFL Week 3 Late Games Open Thread

NFL Week 3 Late Games Open Thread

There are only three late games today, but two of them are really good. The Broncos head to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in a Super Bowl rematch. In Arizona the Cardinals and 49ers face off in a really good and important NFC West battle. The Dolphins also play the Chiefs in a less enticing game. But hey, rooting against the Dolphins is always fun. Use this thread to talk late games (and the conclusion of long-running) early games.

Jets vs. Bears: Five Bold Predictions

"Boldness be my friend" - William Shakespeare, Cymbaline. Disclaimer - A Bold Prediction is not something that is likely or probable to happen. Bold Predictions are guesses that are beyond what anyone can reasonably expect to happen, but not so far as to be physically impossible. Saying that Geno Smith is going to throw for 162 yards and one touchdown is not a bold prediction, nor is saying that Chris Johnson will run for 423 yards and eight touchdowns.  Nor is saying that Ben Schneier22 will predict that Geno Smith is going to throw for 162 yards and one touchdown and Chris...

Raiders Vs Patriots Preview

The Patriots host their season opener today against the Oakland Raiders. The Patriots defense looked good last week against the Vikings, sacking Matt Cassel 6 times and getting 4 interceptions, but the offense didn’t look so good. They will look to begin rolling against the lowly 0-2 Raiders. The Patriots should win this game and […]

Bears vs Jets: Six-Pack Keys to Victory

Bears vs Jets: Six-Pack Keys to Victory

The Bears again face a mobile quarterback, high-percentage throws, a strong running game, and a ferocious front-line. How can they claim victory on Monday night? 1) Let Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery Work The Jets will send players from just about every direction and probably invent a few new directions in their attempts to get to the quarterback. That can cause some problems in getting a deep passing game going. With two giant mismatches in Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery, the Bears don't necessarily need that. Get the ball out and let them work, or put the ball in play and tell...

Patriots vs. Raiders: Predict the Score

Patriots vs. Raiders: Predict the Score

Making a score prediction for the Patriots' week three match-up against the Oakland Raiders. Tomorrow afternoon, the Patriots finally kick off their home slate with an intra-conference match-up against the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders are 0-2 and are coming off an ugly home loss to the Houston Texans. On paper, this is a game that the Patriots should win easily. The Raiders have struggled to defend the run, and are likely going to be without two of their top three linebackers. The Patriots showed an ability to run the ball up the throat of a defense last week, and will likely take that...

Unknown, But Important Contributors – Buffalo Bills Edition

In area better known for Niagara Falls and freezing cold weather than football prowess, obscurity abounds. So does importance to the team and its die-hard fans. It has been a long run of football futility in Buffalo. This is mostly due to a search for a franchise QB that the team has endured since the decline and retirement of Jim Kelly. Coaching has been an issue also, with the franchise going through 7 head coaches since the start of 1998. The Bills and their fans are starved for a playoff appearance, last getting into post-season in 1999. Does this team have enough to break the...

Five Buffalo Bills Questions with Buffalo Rumblings

Five Buffalo Bills Questions with Buffalo Rumblings

Brian Galiford from Buffalo Rumblings was kind enough to answer our questions about the Bills heading into Sunday's game against the visiting San Diego Chargers. The Buffalo Bills defense seems to be greatly improved after losing their best safety and best LB. What has changed? I'm not sure I'd even consider them improved, but there has not been much (if any) regression from last year's Top 10 unit, which is a start. The 2013 Bills defense was the first good one they'd had in years, but they've already been forced to change schemes again, and yes, they lost Jairus Byrd and Kiko Alonso. Jim...

Chicago Bears vs New York Jets: Game Time, TV Schedule, Radio, Online Streaming and More

The Bears' tour of prime time continues as they look to head to 2-1 with a victory over the New York Jets. How can you enjoy the game? For three quarters, the Bears didn't play well offensively and let the game against the Niners nearly get out of hand. The defense, however, put their foot down, and the offense took advantage of two short fields in the fourth quarter to add fourteen points and take the lead, and eventually, the win. They now sit at 1-1. Now, they head to Monday Night Football and take on the Jets in New Jersey. Here's how you can watch it: Game Time: Monday, September 22,...

KP Show: Previewing San Diego Chargers at Buffalo Bills with Chris Trapasso

Our own Kyle Posey fires up his podcast once more and is joined by NFL.com's Chris Trapasso to break down the San Diego Chargers week 3 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. The San Diego Chargers are heading to Buffalo to take on a 2-0 Bills team in a game that appears to mean the world to both squads. This will be Buffalo's first "big test", and a chance for San Diego to show that they're the team that dominated the Seahawks and not the one that couldn't do much of anything right against the Arizona Cardinals. Kyle Posey kicks off this week's podcast by looking back at that win over the...
Jets Playbook: Options

Jets Playbook: Options

While I have a few quibbles here and there, I think in general Marty Mornhinweg has done a terrific job this season. This is not an easy offense to coordinate. The Jets aren't supremely talented at any unit perhaps running back. With a lack of playmakers, it falls on the offensive coordinator to scheme things up. One area the Jets have done this is utilizing Geno Smith's ability as a runner by installing some option plays. The Jets are in a diamond pistol formation with Chris Ivory, Chris Johnson, and Bilal Powell all in the backfield. I have seen this formation used on the college level...
