NFL Honors Awards Show 2016: Who Deserves Each Award?

The NFL has its award show tonight at 9:00 p.m. Eastern on CBS. The league will hand out its major awards for the season. Who deserves to go home with the hardware? Here are my choices. MVP: Cam Newton, Carolina Panthers When you combine passing and rushing, Newton accounted for 45 touchdowns and just under 4,500 yards. He led his team to a 15-1 record. By the way, Ted Ginn was his second best receiver. TED GINN. The Panthers had a great defense, but I can't come up with another player who made such a difference for his team. That's why he's the MVP. Offensive Player of the Year: Carson...

NFL Hall of Fame Class of 2016: What My Ballot Would Look Like

Tonight is voting for the class of 2016 of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The people elected tonight will be inducted in Canton during the summer. I am not a fan of the selection process mainly because it limits the number of modern inductees to five when there are almost always more than five players worthy of induction in a single year. You can get more than that when including other categories like senior inductee and other contributors. There is just something about this process that seems unfair. There are more than five modern inductees who deserve enshrinement, but here are the five...

2016 State of the Game Address: Roger Goodell Thinks We Are Stupid

Social media was not fully buying Roger Goodell's 2016 state-run message Roger Goodell emerged from hiding today to present his annual State of the Game address. Summed up in three words, "it's all good." Goodell's answers were expansive and informative... at least to the scripted questions on relocation of teams, expansion of the league, games in London and Mexico City, diversity, cheerleader compensation, women in executive positions in the NFL, why exercise is important for kids and if girls are good enough, can they play professional football.  All burning questions we needed answers...

Chad Reuter Four Round Mock Draft: Patriots Still Getting Defensive Players

There's a mock that included the New England Patriots!! This is not a drill! NFL.com's Chad Reuter broke down four rounds of the NFL draft, which is no easy feat, and the Patriots have three draft picks (the third round compensatory pick is not included). 60. New England Patriots: DeAndre Houston-Carson, FS, William & Mary The Patriots taking a safety early on isn't out of the question. Duron Harmon is a free agent after the 2016 season and he was essentially the team's fifth defensive back for the majority of the season. The 2nd free safety role is crucial because it allows Devin McCourty...

Super Bowl 50 rosters feature some former Dolphins for Broncos and Panthers

Super Bowl 50 will kickoff on Sunday, with a few former Miami Dolphins getting their shot at a championship ring as they play for either the Denver Broncos or Carolina Panthers. The Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers will meet in Santa Clara, California Sunday evening as the two conference champions kick off Super Bowl 50. Jets Offseason Moves: Team Keeps A in 2015 Offseason Regrade

Mike Sando of ESPN gave the Jets an A grade for their offseason last year. With a year of hindsight, he is keeping the A. Offseason grade: A The Jets' first year under general manager Mike Maccagnan and coach Todd Bowles showed what can happen when a struggling team uses all potential avenues for improvement. The Jets went from the bottom 10 to the top 10 in both offensive and defensive expected points added. Trades for quarterbackRyan Fitzpatrick and receiver Brandon Marshall paid off big. Spending in free agency often backfires, but the Jets fared well there too, upgrading their...

Super Bowl 50: Wade Phillips, Denver Broncos defense have second chance at title

26 years after a loss in his first crack at Super Bowl title, Wade Phillips and the Denver Broncos defense will take another crack at earning a ring this Sunday - but their competition is, once again, stiff. Former Buffalo Bills head coach Wade Phillips, 68, has enjoyed a decorated coaching career that has seen him roaming NFL sidelines since 1976. Despite a high degree of success in the 38 years he's coached, Phillips is making just his second career Super Bowl appearance this Sunday, when his Denver Broncos defense will try to slow down Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl...

New York Jets Offseason: Willie Colon: "Todd Bowles Changed the Culture"

Jets guard Willie Colon was a guest on a Sirius XM radio show earlier in the week and discussed the ways in which Todd Bowles made things different. "[Bowles] changed the culture in that team," Jets offensive lineman Willie Colon said in an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "Everybody knows the circus Rex and Idzik was and everything they went through, and we had to go through. "Todd, coming in, was pretty much able to hold everyone accountable and get guys to be professionals." It is no secret that the Jets were not a well oiled machine in the year before Bowles and Mike Maccagnan...

The 2016 and 2017 Offseasons Will Shape the Future of the Patriots

Bill Belichick and Tom Brady are not going to be the coach and quarterback forever and the team needs to start preparing themselves for a future without the two. We've been blessed with all time greats, perhaps greatest ever, at both the Head Coach and Quarterback position for the last 15 years. The Patriots have won four Super Bowls, been to six, and played in 10 conference championships. The Patriots are the first and so far only dynasty of the 21st century in the NFL, but the reality is everything does not last. The Patriots are in a similar arena to where the 49ers stood in 1997 and...

Jets defensive tackle Damon Harrison is appearing on Rachael Ray's show this morning. Famous chef Emeril Lagasse is the judge. That might prove to be unfortunate for Snacks as Rachael Ray is apparently a Jets fan. You can catch this on WABC 7 in New York at 10:00 a.m. today. If you are not in New York, you will need to check your...

Todd McShay's Mock Draft 2.0 Full of Surprises, Patriots Would Get a Wide Receiver

The latest mock draft from ESPN's Todd McShay still doesn't include the New England Patriots, but it puts Bill Belichick, Nick Caserio, and company in a great position to help the team in the second round. McShay only has a few surprises in the first round, most notably Ohio State wide receiver Braxton Miller going to the Bengals at 24th overall. Miller is a converted quarterback with one year of experience at the position, and he's being mocked to go ahead of his more-renowned teammate and fellow wide receiver Michael Thomas. It doesn't make much sense, but, hey, that's what mocks are...
