The Phinsider Earlier tonight, Fox debuted the fourth season of their show Master Chef. During the season premiere, one hundred different home/amateur chefs attempt to impress Chefs Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, and Graham Elliot with one signature dish. If two of the three like it, the person gets a white apron and moves on. If not, they leave. One notable audition during the premiere was former Miami Dolphins cornerback Eddie Jackson. Jackson made a jerk meatloaf for the three chefs to try. Jackson played for the Dolphins in 2005 and 2006. He initially entered the league as an undrafted free...

Gang Green Nation I got it into my head the other day that the the New York Jets have a high percentage of "local boys" on the roster, or players from New York/New Jersey that grew up near the team. I decided to do some research to see if my gut feeling was right, and it turns out I was wrong (which is a relative term in this case). I don't know the percentages of other teams, but here is a look at where players on the Jets are originally from. In case you were curious, 17% of the roster is from New York or New Jersey, with six players from NY and nine from NJ. Which may be significant in relation to ot...

The Phinsider The Miami Dolphins announced several team awards yesterday, recognizing players for their play and off-field work during the 2012 season. The awards were headlined by defensive end Cameron Wake being presented the Dan Marino Most Valuable Player. The award is voted upon by the South Florida media, and marks the first time Wake has been named the team's MVP. He started all 16 games in 2012 for Miami, recording 53 tackles and 15 sacks. He was selected to his second Pro Bowl last year, and was a First Team All Pro selection for the first time. Wake's 15 sacks were the fourth highest in...

Pats Pulpit The Patriots have continued their pursuit of former Rutgers players, as they have claimed offensive lineman Kevin Haslam off waivers from the Chargers. Haslam, who last played for the Scarlet Knights in 2010, was waived by San Diego on Tuesday. Haslam brings NFL experience to New England, as he has appeared in 10 career games over his two year career. He got his most valuable experience with the Chargers last season, where he started three games at left tackle. Many believe that Haslam was a likely candidate to take over at the position full time in 2013. With Haslam coming aboard, the...

Today, we evaluate the team’s backfield, which will feature a new starter at running back in 2013 after Reggie Bush signed with the Detroit Lions this offseason. The Dolphins won’t have a proven [...]

Gang Green Nation The word out of OTA's from this morning is not promising at the quarterback position. Practice wrapping up: Sanchez finishes 6-11, 3 INTs in 15 snaps. Geno Smith finishes 3-10, INT in 14 snaps. Both "sacked" once #nyj — Manish Mehta(@MMehtaNYDN) May 22, 2013 Is it panic time? Not exactly. Manish Mehta tries on his voice of reason hat. QB stats are virtually meaningless. Two of the Jets top 3 WRs (Holmes and Hill) didn't participate in team drills. Plus, no tackling. #nyj — Manish Mehta(@MMehtaNYDN) May 22, 2013 One practice does not mean much. The quarterback situation looks di...

Gang Green Nation Agent-gate is finally over. Geno Smith has signed Jay-Z and Roc Nation: Geno on Jay Z's Roc Nation: "Being in NY, from a standpoint of what they can do in the city, connections they have, it's a good move." #Jets — Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) May 22, 2013 When was the last time a player has gone from being slammed by the media to being praised so constantly, as is happening with Smith? A few weeks ago, everyone and their mother was jumping on Smith and telling stories about how he was the biggest diva since Keyshawn Johnson, and now the media is constantly talking about how pretty h...

Gang Green Nation The most anticipated agent hiring in recent NFL history has been made. Jets quarterback Geno Smith has hired Jay Z's Roc Sports to represent him. Roc Sports is a new agency, but it has already developed a high profile list of clients, including Yankees superstar Robinson Cano. This will not really impact Geno's rookie contract. With the wage scale in place, rookie contract acrimony seems to be a thing of the past. Where Roc Sports will be tested is handling Geno's image. He reportedly fired his own agency in part because they did not push back hard enough against a bad story. The media...

The Phinsider Quarterback Ryan Tannehill (On what he's learned about Dustin Keller, Brandon Gibson and Mike Wallace so far) - "Yeah you know we're still learning, but I'm excited about what I see from those guys. They're all getting a grasp on the offense and we're starting to get a lot of reps with each other, so (we're going to) continue to work that to get better. I'm excited about what they bring to the team and what they showed today." Last year at this time my head was spinning. I was just trying to figure out how things worked. So being in it a year, I am completely comfortable. -Ryan Tan...

The Phinsider Wide Receiver Mike Wallace (On experiencing his first rain storm at practice) - "Yeah I forgot about that part when I came here, but it's all a part of it so it's fine." (On whether he has learned about the new group of receivers since he's been here, specifically Dustin Keller and Brandon Gibson) - "I learned about those two guys that they look a lot better on the field than in off-season drills. They looked a little slow out there but then they get on the field and they're a lot faster on the field than in workouts." (On whether he thinks he and Ryan Tannehill will need an adjustment...

Buffalo Rumblings One of the advantages of an NFL off-season that may soon be shortened is the ability to hit the tape and learn as much as we can about our favorite football team, the Buffalo Bills. That's doubly true with a new coaching staff and fresh offensive defensive systems in place for the 2013 season. When we started this re-watch series (StoryStream here), one of my hopes was to be able to watch a ton of New York Jets games from the 2012 season to try to establish a hard definition of Mike Pettine's defense. I have since watched a ton of Jets games from the 2012 season and have a good handle ...

The Phinsider A new NFL season means a new crop of rookies entering the league. From that group, there will always be some rookies who face more pressure than the others. The cause of that pressure, can be from where in the Draft they were selected, what team picked them, their respective careers in college, or something else. No matter what, though, there is someone who faces the most pressure each year. NFL.com yesterday asked several of their analysts, which rookie is feeling the most pressure this season. While most of them answer Geno Smith (or his New York Jets teammate Dee Milliner), Adam...

Erik Scalavino catches up with Danny Amendola, who concedes he sometimes feels like the new kid in class. Andy Hart reports that Aqib Talib is glad to be back for a second season in New England, after a brief trip to free agency. Andy Hart calls Kyle Love's parting shot at the Patriots interesting, coming from a former undrafted player who developed into a starter and received a contract extension from New England just last summer.
