Troy Smith might re-consider crawling to Cleveland

Ravens Central | Baltimore Sun — A week ago, Troy Smith's agent said the Ravens backup quarterback "would crawl from Baltimore right now to be able to play in Cleveland." Well, Smith might want to re-think such a journey. Since those comments, the Browns traded for Seneca Wallace on Monday and signed free agent Jake Delhomme on Saturday. So, Cleveland wouldn't be a viable destination unless Smith wants to be a third-string quarterback. Smith was tendered by the Ravens as a restricted free agent. A team would have to give up a fifth-round draft pick as compensation for signing Smith to an offer sheet. According to the Rave...

Overlooking Kruger

Ravens Central | Baltimore Sun — In my article Friday about the Ravens' void at defensive end, I forgot to mention Paul Kruger. The 2009 second-round pick could find himself in the mix at defensive end. It'll really be up to Kruger whether he can make an impact there. Listed at 265 pounds, Kruger needs to add some bulk to become a factor on the defensive line. In last year's draft, Kruger was tabbed a ‘red star’ player by the personnel department, meaning every Ravens scout agreed he personifies the true characteristics of being a Raven. He played nine games as a rookie, starting one. His biggest play was an overtime inter...

Terry signs with Colts

Ravens Central | Baltimore Sun — Free-agent offensive tackle Adam Terry, a disappointing second-round pick by the Ravens, has signed a one-year deal with the Indianapolis Colts. Terry wasn't tendered a contract by the Ravens last month, which made him a free agent. The second of two second-round picks by the Ravens in 2005 (linebacker Dan Cody was the other), Terry never lived up to expectations because of injuries and mild-manner attitude. He played in 48 games with the Ravens, starting 18. He was sidelined all of last season after injuring his knee in training camp.

Top WR groups in Ravens history

Ravens Central | Baltimore Sun — The Ravens’ wide receiver group for 2010 -- Anquan Boldin, Derrick Mason, Donte’ Stallworth and Mark Clayton -- has the looks of being the deepest group in team history. A breakdown of the top five wide receiver groups in the Ravens’ existence: 1996 Michael Jackson (76 catches for 1,201 yards and 14 TDs), Derrick Alexander (62 catches for 1,099 yards and nine TDs), Floyd Turner (38 catches for 461 yards and two TDs) and Calvin Williams (13 catches for 85 yards and one TD). 1997 Michael Jackson (69 catches for 918 yards and four TDs), Derrick Alexander (65 catches for 1,009 yards and nine TDs...

  • Pessimism starts to steal home for Orioles fans Baltimore Sun The Orioles have reached the midway point in spring training, which is usually about the time every March that perception collides with reality.
  • Spotlight isn't on Uehara this season Baltimore Sun Pitcher isn't center of attention as he transitions to relief role - On this day, the biggest Orioles attraction of last spring is throwing a bullpen session in relative anonymity.
  • O's Guthrie gives up 4 runs in 3rd start Baltimore Sun Orioles right-hander retired final seven Yankees he faced - The Orioles' quest to make Jeremy Guthrie their first starter this spring to get through four innings was pretty much derailed when the right-hander threw 25 pitches Saturday before he got his first out.
  • Aubrey alert School of Roch | MASN Anybody know what happened to the hour that I lost this morning? I'm searching for it like a contact lense. I had the joyous task of checking on Michael Aubrey's groin a few minutes ago. Still think I have the best job in the world? Aubrey said the area "tightened up" as he left the batter's box after lining a single in his first at-bat in yesterday's game in Tampa. He's day-to-day with the injury. "It didn't feel right," he...
  • Looking back and linking up Nationals Journal | Washington Post Never had a chance to wrap up the Nationals loss to the Astros yesterday in Kissimmee, and here's a quick recap of what was important. The Good: The Nationals' two best players this spring, one position player and one pitcher, have been a pair 20-something who have never played on a regular basis in the major leagues. The sample size is small and he's playing against guys destined for bus rides, but what fun is spring training if you can't get excited about a player who tears apart Florida and puts up double-take stats, a player like Ian Desmond? Yesterday, Desmond went 2 for 4 with a double a...
