Larry Johnson 'excited' by visit with Redskins

Redskins Insider | Washington Post — The Redskins' attempt to find a complement for Clinton Portis continues today with the scheduled visit of Larry Johnson. "Larry is extremely excited and anticipates having a great visit with the Redskins," Johnson's agent, Peter Schaffer, said in a phone interview. "He grew up a Redskins fan. He was born in the D.C. area and he's a lifelong fan. To some extent, this could be a dream come true for him. "He looks forward to meeting with the coaching staff and front office to explore his opportunities, how they would use him and if it's going to be a good fit. Obviously, I will have to hunker dow...

Larry Foote still remains squarely on Redskins' radar screen

Redskins Insider | Washington Post — Just because a player visits Ashburn and leaves empty-handed doesn't mean he's off the Redskins' radar. That might be worth keeping in mind on a day like today when linebacker Larry Foote mills about the Arizona Cardinals' complex. Foote was in Washington earlier this week and left without a contract, but that doesn't mean he's completely out of the Redskins' plans. In fact, it seems Foote always intended to take his Arizona trip. "I talked to him [Tuesday] morning when he was in Washington,'' Foote's friend and former teammate James Farrior told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Mike Shanahan, Bruce Allen rebuild Redskins at their own, measured pace

Redskins Insider | Washington Post — It seems there is no pressure on Coach Mike Shanahan and General Manager Bruce Allen to attempt to rebuild the Redskins overnight. Although Shanahan and Allen have not publicly laid out their plans, the writing appears to be on the wall in large letters. After years of questionable front-office decisions, the Redskins' roster and organization are in the process of being overhauled, albeit slowly. From reviewing game film, Shanahan likely determined he could not accomplish enough in one offseason to make a marked difference in the team's talent level. On the eve of free agency, there was buzz t...

Redskins sign tight end Sean Ryan

Redskins Insider | Washington Post — Former Kansas City tight end Sean Ryan has signed with the Redskins, the team announced Thursday. Used primarily as a blocking tight end throughout his six-year career, Ryan last season had personal-best totals with 14 receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns. He has 26 catches for 240 yards and two touchdowns in his career. Unrestricted free agent Todd Yoder has filled the blocking role for Redskins the past four seasons. Pro Bowler Chris Cooley and rising third-year player Fred Davis are expected to form one of the league's top pass-catching tandems in the 2010 season. The Redskins are th...

Rocky McIntosh willing to make inside move in 3-4

Redskins Insider | Washington Post — Washington did not pursue Karlos Dansby, and Larry Foote left without a contract after visiting the complex this week, so it would seem the team still has a big hole to fill at linebacker opposite London Fletcher. The Redskins appear to need another starting middle linebacker because they are in the process of transitioning from a base 4-3 defense to a 3-4 alignment. But there is an in-house answer, Rocky McIntosh said. "I can play inside," McIntosh said in a phone interview the other day. "I've played inside before. It's no big deal. I can play anywhere. I did it when Gregg [Williams] was her...

  • It's linebacker Thursday Kent Somers' Cardinals Blog | Arizona Republic Reporters just met with inside linebacker Larry Foote and outside linebacker Joey Porter, both free agents. Neither has been made an offer yet. Foote said the Cardinals are his first choice. Porter said he has heard from other teams and might visit. But the Cards can stop him by making him an offer, he said. Here are some comments from Foote, a former Steeler who spent last year with the Lions. "I'm begging. I want to get back to a winner. I feel more comfortable with a 3-4 (defense). Pittsburgh wants me back but I want to be a Cardinal and hopefull we ...read the rest of this post

  • Bengals sign Antonio Bryant FFToolbox.com The Cincinnati Bengals have a legit No. 2 wide receiver. Or maybe more like a second No. 1. The team signed former Tampa Bay wide receiver Antonio Bryant to a four-year, $28 million deal on Wednesday. With incentives, Bryant could earn as much as $29 million. Bryant had a breakout season in 2008 with more than 1,200 receiving yards, 83 catches and seven touchdowns.
