First 53: Dallas Cowboys initial roster

First 53: Dallas Cowboys initial roster

This is the first 53-man roster of the season for the Dallas Cowboys, not the final one. It will change soon and several times. Having said that, here is an initial look at the 2014 Cowboys: QUARTERBACKS (3) " Tony Romo " Brandon Weeden " Dustin Vaughan Vaughan, the undrafted free agent from West Texas A&M, surviving the cuts is a mild surprise. The Cowboys haven’t kept a third quarterback on the roster in recent years, but they saw enough potential in Vaughan to determine he was worth developing and didn’t want to expose him to waivers.

Patrick Chung Makes the Patriots Roster, Saving the Eagles Cap Space

Patrick Chung Makes the Patriots Roster, Saving the Eagles Cap Space

The Patriots kept Patrick Chung on their 53 man roster. That's good for the Eagles. In the 2013 off-season, the Eagles signed five free agent starters to upgrade an awful defense. Three of those players, Connor Barwin, Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams, were good additions. However the other two players were not and by mid-season were benched for rookies: Isaac Sopoaga for Bennie Logan and Patrick Chung for Earl Wolff. In both of their cases, the Patriots were able to bail the Eagles out. In October, Sopoaga was dealt along with a sixth round pick to the Patriots for a fifth round pick....

NFL roster cuts: Appealing options on the waiver wire for the Eagles

The Eagles have just cut the roster to 53 players, but the team's work may not be done just yet. The Eagles are at the league's roster limit, but there is still an opportunity for the team to upgrade some positions by claiming players on the waiver wire. Hundreds of players have been cut over the...

Cowboys' Anthony Spencer off PUP list

IRVING, Texas -- As expected, defensive end Anthony Spencer is on the Dallas Cowboys' active roster. The Cowboys had to remove Spencer from the active/physically unable to perform list to add him to the 53-man roster. He will not play in the Sept. 7 regular-season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, but if he was kept on reserve/PUP, he would have missed the first six games of the season. On Friday, coach Jason Garrett said he was not sure when Spencer would be able to practice.

Redskins Blog: Redskins release RBs Evan Royster, Lache Seastrunk, Chris Thompson

The Washington Redskins resumed roster cuts on Saturday morning, releasing running backs Evan Royster, Lache Seastrunk and Chris Thompson, according to people with knowledge of the situation. Running back represented one of the stiffest competitions of the preseason. Washington had Pro Bowl workhorse back Alfred Morris locked in as the starter, and Roy Helu Jr. as his top backup and primary third-down back. But that left Royster, a four-year veteran, Thompson, a second-year pro, and the two rookies Seastrunk and Silas Redd, to compete for the final spot or two on the unit. Read full article...

Chris Polk injury: Eagles running back should be ready for Week 1

Apparently Chris Polk isn't too far off from returning to the field. According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Caplan, Philadelphia Eagles running back Chris Polk just might be ready to play in Week 1. There's strong optimism that RB Chris Polk will be ready for Week 1, so could explain why Tucker was cut. — Adam Caplan (@caplannfl) August 30, 2014 This news comes despite the fact that Polk missed most of the summer after suffering slight hamsting tear in late July. Polk only participated in a handful of training camp practices and not a single one of the Eagles' preseason games. When the...

New York Giants cut-down analysis

Most significant move: Due to the Odell Beckham Jr. injury and the inability of Mario Manningham to make the team, the New York Giants ended up having to carry six wide receivers, including undrafted Corey Washington and former Buccaneer Preston Parker, who's likely to open as the No. 1 punt returner. Once Beckham is healthy enough to play and return punts, they could drop a receiver and add at running back or tight end, where they only kept three players each.
