Raiders week 7 Ballers & Busters

The breakdown of the individual performances both good and bad for the Raiders in their week 7 match-up with the Arizona Cardinals. Another week, another loss. And not near as exciting a loss as the offensive explosion last week against the Chargers. This week saw the Raiders behind from start to finish against the Cardinals. They pulled to within one point at 14-13 but then the Cardinals pulled away and won 24-13. The was more intrigue heading into this game than most of the other games the Raiders had played. They were facing a decent, albeit not dominant team in the Cardinals with...

Raiders veterans at a loss as to how to turn this around

A lot of veteran players were added to this squad in the off-season. Many of them were given up by their former teams, usually because the teams thought their performance had dipped or they simply wanted to get younger. The Raiders scooped them up to have a veteran presence, many of whom have been on Super Bowl teams so they know what it takes to win consistently. At this point, for these Raiders, ‘consistently' doesn't even come into play. They just want a win. As the losses pile up, players and coaches more and more turn to the veterans on the team to step up and lead whether by words...

Monday Night Football: Houston Texans at Pittsburgh Steelers

The Houston Texans (3-3) are traveling to face the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-3) tonight for Monday Night Football. It promises to be a hard fought, classic AFC battle, even though the Texans are still relatively new to the American Football Conference. The Steelers are led by Ben Rothlisberger and Antonio Brown in the passing game and Le'Veon Bell and LeGarrette Blount in the running game. They also have future Hall of Fame Safety Troy Palamatu on defense. They love to hit you in the mouth and will be looking to win with physicality. As for the Texans, they have notorious Oakland Raider killer...

Report: Raiders down another safety, lose Usama Young for season

More bad news at the safety position for the Raiders as Usama Young is lost for the season with a torn ACL and MCL according to sources close to ESPN's Bill Williamson. Young went down on Sunday against the Cardinals and after being helped to the sideline by trainers, was carted into the locker room. I asked Tony Sparano following the game about Young's injury, to which he said he didn't have an update but that it was "probably not a great situation." The news of Young's departure is a blow to the Raiders safety group. He was the replacement for Tyvon Branch who was lost to a broken foot...

The Morning After: Oakland Raiders vs Arizona Cardinals

0-6. That is what matters most after this one, the Raiders are 0-6 for the first time since 1962. That is a bitter pill to swallow, even when it came on the heels of back to back solid performances against top notch teams. The thing about the current state of the NFL though is that there just are not very many teams that are actually bad. If you are a team only capable of beating bad teams then you are not going to be given very many opportunities to win in this league. That means that even bad teams have to be capable of winning against these top notch teams, something that will be a...

Raiders now NFL's only winless team

As of last week, there were two teams in the NFL without a win -- the Raiders and the Jaguars. Each week that passed was like playing a game of musical chairs with each team passing that empty chair. Well, the music has stopped, and the Jaguars got that chair, leaving the Raiders as the last team standing without a victory. The Jaguars put away the Browns 24-6 today to give them their first win of the season. The Raiders played the afternoon game and had a chance to remove the goose egg from their win column. But they fell 24-13 to the Cardinals and now sit alone at the bottom of the NFL...

Derek Carr remains

Derek Carr remains "fearless" despite 0-6 start

The 2014 Raiders have yet to experience what it's like to win a game. For the rookies, they have yet to experience a win on the NFL level. And that string has no reached six games. Usually, no position feels the weight of that than the quarterback. That Raiders have been starting rookie Derek Carr at quarterback all season and despite not feeling victory in his young NFL career, he continues to approach games without hesitation. To show his lack of fear in his approach, he went right after All Pro cornerback, Patrick Peterson on the very first play of the game. Peterson played it well and...

Raiders vs Cardinals final score: 24-13 loss drops Raiders to worst start in 52 years

Raiders vs Cardinals final score: 24-13 loss drops Raiders to worst start in 52 years

It was another gritty game by the Raiders resulting in another loss. The Raiders lose to the Cardinals in Oakland by the score of 24-13 to fall to 0-6. It's their worst start in 52 years. The only other time they started 0-6 was 1962, the year before Al Davis joined the team. The offense fell back to earth a bit in this one, with just one touchdown and none were Derek Carr passes. Carr was going for a statement right out the gates, wasting no time going after All Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson. He threw for James Jones on the first play of the game, but Peterson had perfect coverage to...

Oakland Raiders vs Arizona Cardinals 2nd half thread

The Oakland Raiders started out with the ball first. They tried to go deep on the first play from scrimmage but Patrick Peterson and James Jones got their feet tangled. A run by Darren McFadden and an incomplete pass later left the Raiders with a 3 and out opening possession. The punt was muffed but recovered by the Cardinals. The Cardinals drive stalled at midfield. Instead of punting it the Cardinals went for it on 4th down but did not get the first down. The pass was on target to TE John Carlson but a great pass break up by CB T.J. Carrie knocked the ball out of Carlson's hands....

Raiders vs Cardinals game time

The Raiders and Cardinals are set to face off at 1:25pm Pacific (4:25 Eastern) for their week 7 match-up. This is looking like one of the more intriguing games for the Raiders this season with a great many storylines and a Raiders squad coming back from their best offensive game of the season. Derek Carr showed last week against the Chargers that he can make all the throws asked of him. He had career highs of 282 yards and four passing touchdowns against the stout Chargers defense. The Raiders fell short on a late Chargers touchdown drive, followed by a game-ending interception. Carr and...

Raiders vs Cardinals complete game day coverage

With the 4-1 Arizona Cardinals coming to Oakland this Sunday to face the Raiders still searching for their first win, there are a few storylines and match-ups worth following. Staring down the wrong side of history If the Raiders lose Sunday, it would be their second worst start in franchise history. Only once in the Raiders history have they started a season 0-6. That was 1962 -- the season before Al Davis took over the team -- when they started the season 0-13 before winning the final game of the season. The last time the Raiders started a season 0-5 was 2006. They staved off 0-6 with a...

Justin Tuck, Marcel Reece, Khalif Barnes all questionable on Raiders Injury Report

With it being Week 7 of the 2014 NFL season it should come to no surprise that both teams this week have a substantial amount of players listed on their injury reports. Just about every team around the league's reports look this crowded too. The Raiders have three starters that are questionable for this game in FB Marcel Reece, DE Justin Tuck, and RT Khalif Barnes. All three of those players were limited in practice on Friday and did not participate at all on Wednesday leaving their statuses for this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals very much in doubt. If Khalif Barnes is unable to suit...

Five Good Questions with Revenge of the Birds

For this week's five good questions, I spoke with Jess Root of SB Nation Cardinals blog, Revenge of the Birds (I just got the reference) to learn a bit more about the team the Raiders are about to face on Sunday. 1. This might be a broad questions but how is it the Cardinals have had three different starters at quarterback and yet they just keep winning? Well, they only have had two starters. Logan Thomas only came in at the end of the Denver game. How have they kept winning? Drew Stanton is more than capable. The key? Zero interceptions through five games. The defense is playing well...
