The Morning After: Oakland Raiders vs Kansas City Chiefs (1st WIN!)

RELIEF. Relief unlike anything I ever remember feeling after an Oakland Raiders win. The release of the worry and pent up emotions was nearly euphoric and something completely unique to me. The only game I can remember anything similar was the Raiders finally getting to the Super Bowl in 2002 after years of being so close, but even that was completely different than this. When thinking about the relief and emotional release that us fans felt after this win against the Kansas City Chiefs it really puts into perspective what the Raiders players and members of the organization felt afterward....

Kansas City Chiefs have no excuses for loss to Oakland Raiders

Kansas City had every chance to win a game that it ultimately gift wrapped for the worthless Raiders. The Kansas City Chiefs have no excuses. Don't tell me about the rain, or Husain Abdullah dropping an easy interception, or perhaps the worst pass interference call in NFL history against Ron Parker. This game was lost well before the latter two, and the rain was there for both teams. The Chiefs failed on every level on Thursday night in their 24-20 loss to the previously winless Oakland Raiders. It was an embarrassment that will be remembered for years to come. Kansas City played with the...

Chiefs offense deserves blame for Raiders loss with miserable third down percentage

One reason the Chiefs lost: they were really bad on third down. I wrote earlier that the defense cost the Kansas City Chiefs in Thursday's loss to the Oakland Raiders. And that's correct. The Chiefs defense could not hold a lead in the fourth quarter. They allowed the Raiders to convert 50 percent of their third downs. But let's not let the offense off the hook here. They contributed to this loss, too. Alex Smith and the Chiefs offense deserves some credit for coming back with two second half touchdowns. They did the same thing in Buffalo and scored one against Seattle, too. That's a good...

‘Dark cloud' of losing streak lifted on overcast night in Oakland

Just days ago the Raiders celebrated the one-year anniversary of their last win. They had gone 0-16 dating back to last season and the outlook was bleak with the team staring at a very possible 0-16 on the current season alone. Then the Chiefs came to town and on a dark and damp day in Oakland, the Raiders forecast became a bit more sunny. No one on this team is feeling more of a sense of relief than Antonio Smith. Because while many of these players have suffered through all 16-straight losses, Smith came over from the Texans who had lost 14-straight, bringing his losing streak to...

Raiders finally unleash Latavius Murray, Marcel Reece to win "old fashioned Raider way"

This season the Raiders have been starting Darren McFadden with Maurice Jones-Drew getting some carries as well. Over their ten losses this season, they were 0-10 because of their historically bad run game. It was the primary reason for the team having the worst offense in the NFL and the main reason for their not having a win this season. I myself have harped on the issue more and more as the season went on and as the offense continued to struggle. First of all, it was not using Latavius Murray at all. Then it was the Raiders inability to pick up first downs on run plays, even in short...

Which Chiefs loss is worse: Raiders or Titans?

Is this Chiefs loss worse than the Week 1 loss to the Titans? The Kansas City Chiefs lost to the previously winless Oakland Raiders and this is miserable. So let's be miserable together. The Chiefs 24-20 loss to the Raider looks like the worst loss of the season, at least on paper. The Raiders were 0-10 entering the game and the Chiefs had legitimate expectations ahead. There's no doubt this was a bad loss. But I will contend that the Chiefs Week 1 loss to the Titans was worse, and more of an anomaly than this loss to the Raiders. The Raiders were winless but go look at their...

Raiders beat Chiefs, game ends in fairly absurd fashion

The San Francisco 49ers host the Oakland Raiders in a couple weeks, and I would say thankfully, the Raiders will not be in search of their first win. The Raiders stunned the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday Night Football, winning 24-20. Derek Carr led a great 7:17 drive to put the Raiders on top, and somehow Oakland survived a calamity of errors. There were two notable moments in the Chiefs final drive, both of which left me laughing. The first was a 4th and 3 at the KC 46. Alex Smith could not find an open receiver, but three separate penalties were called on the Raiders. They were called...

Chiefs vs Raiders final score: Raiders come back to win first game of season 24-20

It was a damp day in Oakland which would seem to favor to grind it out team like the Chiefs. The Raiders defense stopped the Chiefs offense to a three-and-out on their first two drives. The first series featured a pass defended by D.J. Hayden and finished off by an open field tackle for loss by Charles Woodson. Alex Smith couldn't find his rhythm on the second drive and the Raiders brought pressure on a blitz to seal the deal. The Raiders got the ball and drove for a touchdown. They converted two third downs on the drive and finished it off with an 11-yard touchdown run from Latavius...

Oakland Raiders vs Kansas City Chiefs 2nd half open thread

The Kansas City Chiefs started out with the ball at the 20 in this one. The Raiders stopped them right off the bat with a 3 and out. The 3rd down stop was a beautiful open field tackle on Jamaal Charles by Charles Woodson. Unfortunately the Raiders only managed one first down before having to punt the ball back to Kansas City. Once again the defense was up to the challenge though and held the Chiefs to another three and out, 2 in a row to start the game. This time the Raiders would not be denied. Derek Carr moved the ball consistently down the field with excellent awareness and pocket...

Thursday Night Football Open Thread: Kansas City Chiefs at Oakland Raiders

Join us for witty banter as the Kansas City Chiefs (7-3) visit the Oakland Raiders (0-10) in a prime time AFC West matchup. At least it's a division game?  I can't muster much of a sell for this one as the pathetic, putrid, hapless (and winless) Oakland Raiders (0-10) host the Kansas City Chiefs (7-3).  The Chiefs, as a team, have exactly zero touchdown passes to wide receivers in 2014.  The Raiders are DFL in the NFL in points scored, with a paltry 152. Do I have you convinced yet?  I thought not.  If nothing else, you can hope for the Raiders to take down a potential Wild Card team...

Thursday Night Football Open Thread: Kansas City Chiefs at Oakland Raiders

Tied-for-top meets welded-to-the-bottom of the AFC West as... eh... at least there'll be cheerleaders. It's week 12 of the 2014 NFL season and Thursday Night games have, to date, often been terrible mismatches.  Oh hai there, 7-3 Kansas City Chiefs, have you met the 0-10 Oakland Raiders? At least it's an all-AFC West affair, so there's that much going for it.  The Chiefs are tied in the W-L column with the Denver Broncos, with the San Diego Chargers only a game behind at 6-4, so there's every incentive for them to extend their five-game win streak in their first matchup against a Raiders...

New to Mile High Report? Sign up here and join the discussion! Welcome to Week 12. With the Denver Broncos firmly in a midseason slump, this game suddenly has a ton of meaning for us orange and blue maniacs. The Kansas City Chiefs (7-3) are the heavy favorites tonight against the Oakland Raiders (0-10), but anything can happen when a superior teams faces a desperate winless team late in the season. Let's pull for the anything tonight! The Chiefs are coming off an impressive win against the Seattle Seahawks whom they shut down in the fourth quarter to preserve a 24-20 victory, while the...

Thursday Night Football - Open Thread -

Week 12 of the 2014 NFL season is about to get started with Thursday Night Football. This week of NFL action is being kicked off by a division game from the AFC West, as the Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders. With the 7-3 Chiefs visiting the 0-10 Raiders, this could very well shape up to be another Thursday Night Blowout. The Chiefs will be looking to continue their push for a playoff berth, while the Raiders would just like to get a win. That isn't to say that there aren't some story-lines in this game. The Raiders will be looking for rookie quarterback Derek Carr to show some signs...
