Breaking: Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie gets 4-year extension

Mark Davis likes what he has seen from his GM of late and he made the move to keep him in house long term. This evening at the Raiders held their Alumni gala in Napa following their first day of training camp. On hand along with Raiders legends and Mark Davis took the opportunity to announce he had given a 4-year extension to General Manager Reggie McKenzie that would keep him as GM until 2020. I just introduced #Raiders owner Mark Davis in Napa as he extended Reggie McKenzie's 4 years on his existing contract. Huge moment! #NFL — JT The Brick (@JTTheBrick) July 30, 2016 "Reggie's...

Raiders 2016 training camp practice day 1 wrap: “Genuine excitement” out the gate

Training camp has officially begun. Here are my day one camp observations. The 2016 Oakland Raiders officially began training camp today. There was a lot of reason to be a excited. The team is as talented as it’s been in several years and most of them showed up day one healthy and ready to roll (knock on wood). "There’s a genuine excitement level," said Jack Del Rio. "I think for us last year when I got here, I really thought it was important that we establish expectations. High expectations. We didn’t back down from that. . . Now how do you accomplish your goals, well you put in the...

Ranking the AFC West: Full teams

Wrapping up our position-by-position Ranking the AFC West series with the final team rankings. After a couple weeks of comparing the Raiders’ at each position to their division rivals, we finally reach the culmination of those efforts. From those rankings I hoped to put together an overall ranking of the talent on each team. Here are those results. Best offense: Oakland Raiders Though none of the Raiders skill position players were named the best in the division, the combination of Derek Carr, Latavius Murray, Amari Cooper, Michael Crabtree, and Clive Walford figured up to be tied with...

Raiders vs Texans en Mexico agotaron en poco tiempo (sold out in minutes)

Thursday the NFL put put the remaining tickets for the Raiders vs Texans game on November 21 in Mexico City. And they went fast. Really fast. According to NFL Mexico; "La Respuesta de los aficionados fue increible, los boletos se agotaron en poco tiempo." Or in English "The response from fans was incredible. The tickets sold out in no time" That's a lot of tickets, too. Azteca Stadium has an official capacity of 95,500 -- the third largest stadium in the world -- and they packed 103,467 fans into the stadium back in 2005 for the 49ers vs Cardinals. The crowd figures to be heavily Silver &...

Raiders 2016 training camp report day wrap: Some players know how to make an entrance

There was some showmanship going on in Napa today. One might even call it swagger. The day has finally come. The Raiders arrived at training camp in Napa. And this year, it had a few interesting moments, and certainly some showmanship as well. Some players were already here, as they attended the pre-camp warm-up. While others were arriving for the first time from their 6-week vacation. The first player to speak was Reggie Nelson, who has missed the entire offseason program, making this the first time he has spoken to the media in person. He had some interesting things to say, including that...

Rival Report 7/28: Raiders putting rivals on notice but know they need to prove it on the field

Normally we don't write about the Oakland Raiders in the rival report. It is a daily link dump that is supposed to be about the Raiders rivals and the rest of the NFL, however today is going to be a little different. Today, the Raiders are putting their rivals on notice and it's the focus of the Rival Report today. Why? Because there are not many interesting stories today and the best articles I came across were dedicated to the Raiders resurgence that is in full effect. The hype train has been moving full speed all off-season and it is officially time to point out that the rivals finally...

Former Raider DT Warren Sapp bitten by shark

I am not making this up. In a bizarre case of what can only be called cosmic justice, Hall of Famer and former Raider DT Warren Sapp was attacked by a shark today while lobstering off the coast of Florida. This is not, as I initially expected, a case of the shark mistaking Sapp for a manatee or a whale. Rather, this was a case of Warren Sapp cruelly trying to steal the lunch of a hungry and desperate nurse shark- they often hang around lobster cages because lobster is a favorite meal of nurse sharks. Frankly, insensitive acts like this are par for the course in the trail...

Rival Report 7/27: LA Rams troll former St Louis season ticket holders with merchandise email

What could make having your hometown team abandon your city for one that is over 1,800 miles away worse? Have that team then send you an email offering brand new merchandise because you were such a loyal season ticket holder until the very bitter end. That is what some St. Louis Rams fans have had happen to them after the Los Angeles Rams used the wrong database to send out their merchandise email advertisement. Instead of sending the email to their new California fan base, they mistakenly sent it to their heartbroken fans in St. Louis. Needless to say, many of the St Louis...

Ranking the AFC West: Punter

The top two punters are two of the best in the league. While the bottom two are both coming off poor seasons. 1. Chiefs - Dustin Colquitt A one-time Pro Bowler, Dustin Colquitt has been one of the best punters in the league for a few years now. Last season he had a division best 40.8-yard net along with the most fair catches (21) and fewest returns (26). 2. Raiders - Marquette King The above Colquitt brother may still be the best, but King is right on his heels. The difference between their punt yardage average as well as net punting were .1 in both categories. King’s 21 downed punts was...

Fan Poll: Choose punter for All-Raiders Team

The Silver and Black have a long history of burying their opponents deep. This is part 15 of Silver & Black Pride's All-Raiders Team fan poll and this installment focuses on the punters that have represented the franchise. The Raiders legendary punter Ray Guy changed the strategy of kicking away forever and is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. But other great punters followed wearing Silver and Black. We'd like to ask Raider Nation to vote on an All-Time Raiders Team. The criteria is simple, select a player at each position you believe best embodied the essence of all things...

Raiders 7th round OL Vadal Alexander on NFI, two others on PUP to begin camp

Two Raiders rookies and a veteran will be sidelined to begin camp. As Raiders rookies and select players continue their pre-camp warm-up, there are two rookies who aren’t among them. One of them is seventh round pick offensive lineman Vadal Alexander. Alexander was the team’s final pick in April’s draft out of LSU. He will compete for a reserve spot at both guard and tackle. That competition will get off to a late start in training camp as he recovers from an undisclosed injury. Another rookie who will be unavailable is undrafted defensive end Greg Townsend Jr. He will start camp on...

King: Can the Raiders Live Up to the Preseason Hype from the National Media?

The Raiders are getting set to open camp, and the biggest question about the team is going to be how will the team will perform as a club that is on the rise in the AFC? Today Peter King of SI in his ‘Monday Morning QB’ column wrote about the Raiders, and had the following […]

Fan Poll: Choose kicker for All-Raiders team

No position has more pressure than the kicker, whose last-second effort either makes him a goat or hero. In part 14 of Silver & Black Pride's All-Raiders Team fan poll we focus on the place kickers that have represented the franchise. The Raiders have had some big legs on the team over the years that have made epic, last-second field goals. We'd like to ask Raider Nation to vote on an All-Time Raiders Team. The criteria is simple, select a player at each position you believe best embodied the essence of all things Silver and Black. The players you select did not have to win Super Bowls or...

Video arises that might mean trouble for Aldon Smith

The Oakland Raiders might be facing a problem, because Aldon Smith might have posted a video of himself smoking marijuana on the social media service Periscope. Smith is already in the midst of a long term suspension that he will need to apply for reinstatement from 60 days prior to his eligible return date in November. The video, courtesy of CSN Bay Area, is posted below and if proven true could cause Aldon's Smith's suspension to be even longer. It was found in the media archives of a Periscope account, "@ravenga" and the videos were posted under the name "Ricky". This particular segment...

Karl Joseph, Reggie Nelson participate in Raiders pre-camp warm-up

Raiders new safety tandem practices for the first time in pre-camp warm-ups. The Raiders held their pre-camp warmup today which features the team’s rookies as well as select players. Among those who took the field was rookie Karl Joseph, who was taking the field to practice for the first time since the team drafted him at 14 overall last April. Throughout OTA’s and minicamp, Joseph worked on the side as he was recovering from an ACL injury he suffered last season at West Virginia. The Raiders were encouraged enough by what they saw pre-draft to take him with their top pick and he and...

Raiders 2016 pre-camp season preview: Week 12 vs Carolina Panthers

Fresh off a trip to Mexico City, hopefully without drinking the water, the Raiders return to Oakland to face the reigning NFC Champions. As if facing the reigning Super Bowl champion Broncos twice this season isn’t enough, the Raiders also face the other Super Bowl team from last season, the Panthers, who also had the league’s best record in 2015. Panthers 2015 numbers Record: 15-1 Offense rank: 11th Defense rank: 6th It’s no coincidence that the Panthers had both the most wins last season, but also scored more points than any other team. They scored a total of exactly 500 points last...

Ranking the AFC West: Inside linebackers

Who takes the top spot in patrolling the inside of the linebacking corps? 1. Chiefs - Derrick Johnson, Josh Mauga Even at the age of 33, Derrick Johnson is the best inside linebacker in this division. He has made the Pro Bowl in each of his last four complete seasons, and is a one-time All Pro. He routinely posts over 100 combined tackles and is the leader of that Kansas City defense which was 3rd in the league with fewest points allowed and 7th in yards allowed last season. Mauga has been with the team the past two seasons and in 2014 took over as the fulltime starter when Johnson was lost...

Raiders 2016 pre-camp season preview: Denver Broncos week 9, 17

We’re past the midway point of the season and the Raiders are just now facing the Broncos for the first time at home and again in the season finale in Denver. Oakland split the season series 1-1 against the eventual Super Bowl champions. And both meeting were hard-fought nailbiters won by the defense. Broncos 2015 numbers Record: 12-4 (Won Super Bowl) Offense rank: 1st Defense rank: 16th That top ranked defense was as dominating as any to lead a team to the Super Bowl in recent memory. They held the team up when Peyton Manning had thrown 17 interceptions and just 9 touchdowns and...
