Where should the Raiders select a QB in the 2014 draft?

There is little debate over whether the Raiders should draft a QB in this year's draft, the main question is where that quarterback should be drafted. They have the 5th overall pick and at least one or more of the top quarterbacks in the draft will be available, but is that really the spot where it will be best for the Raiders to select their QB of the future? When you look at success rates of quarterbacks in history, it definitely favors 1st round selections. It makes sense to be that way because if a QB looks like he will have a shot at being successful in the NFL it leads to teams...

NFL Trade Rumors: Terrelle Pryor getting moved by Raiders soon

The Raiders are set to trade Terrelle Pryor soon. Earlier this offseason, Oakland Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie said backup quarterback Terrelle Pryor would "likely be traded or released soon." It now appears that will happen by Monday, and it may be via a trade: Raiders hope to trade QB Terrelle Pryor before the start of the offseason program on Monday, per league source. — ProFootballTalk (@ProFootballTalk) April 16, 2014 Pryor started nine games last season before losing his job to rookie Matt McGloin. He also missed three weeks in the middle of the season with a knee injury. The...

What kind of value could Raiders get in Denarius Moore trade?

What kind of value could Raiders get in Denarius Moore trade?

One of the looming questions as we approach the draft is whether the Raiders could attempt to trade wide receiver Denarius Moore. The reason behind such an idea is the possibility the Raiders could use a high draft pick on a receiver. If this happens, their wide receiver corps gets pretty crowded and Moore looks like the odd man out with some decent value in trade. How much value is the question. Let's examine that. First off, the Raiders chose Moore in the fifth round of the 2011 draft. By most measurements, he has outplayed his draft position as a starter the past couple seasons for the...

2014 NFL mock draft: WR Sammy Watkins to Oakland Raiders with 5th pick

With the 5th pick in the 2014 Arrowhead Pride mock draft, Oakland Raiders GM see'in red selects... If anything, the 2014 offseason has shown that the Oakland Raiders have intentions of making some drastic changes on how they plan to be successful. By jettisoning contracts that were not worth their merit and letting a number of players leave, the Raiders have found themselves with the most salary cap room of any team in the league. In doing so they also created a number of holes to fill before they even think about showing up to play next fall. As a result of this, Raiders General Manager...

Four of ten worst catch rates made up of current, former Raiders

Four of ten worst catch rates made up of current, former Raiders

There's another graphic out there that is a cruel reminder of some of the failings of the Raiders the past decade plus. And this one can't be blamed on someone "taking shots at the Raiders" as so many Raiders fans like to accuse analysts of doing. This graphic was put out by Scott Kacsmar of Football Outsiders due to the 49ers signing Brandon Lloyd to a contract. In just so happens that regardless of the pass-catching inconsitencies of Lloyd, the Raiders receiving woes have him beat. Brandon Lloyd makes spectacular catches, but has one of the lowest catch rates since 1999: #49ers...

Austin Howard deal with Raiders may not be as favorable as first thought

When the Raiders first signed offensive lineman, Austin Howard, it seemed like the perfect deal. They get a young, two-year starting right tackle with a reasonable deal that has no ramifications after this season. That seems to be turning out less and less the case. First of all, he was given a deal that paid him an average of $6 million per season. That is a decent deal for a young starting right tackle. However, the Raiders are saying he will be playing right guard. The cutting of Mike Brisiel further suggests that to be true. Suddenly $6 million per season doesn't look quite as...

UCF quarterback Blake Bortles visiting Raiders

Central Florida quarterback Blake Bortles visited the Oakland Raiders on Monday according to CSN Bay Area's Scott Bair. It was only a few months ago when Bortles was projected as a late-round selection. Since then, his draft stock has skyrocketed. ESPN's Ron Jaworski recently ranked Bortles as the best quarterback in the 2014 NFL Draft. Listed at 6'5" and 232 lbs, Bortles has prototypical size for an NFL quarterback. He is very athletic and shows good mobility. While Bortles can make every throw, he does not have an elite arm. He has a quick release and is fairly accurate. Bortles performed...

Raiders cross bay rival 49ers running afoul of the law at breakneck pace

What is happening with the 49ers these days? This time last year, they were one of the least troubled teams in the NFL. Now they are a complete mess. The latest incident involving Aldon Smith whose run-ins with the law have been many over the past year. Smith was arrested at Los Angeles International airport after allegedly getting into an argument with a TSA agent and making a false report of a bomb threat. He was detained for a few hours until posting a $20,000 bond. If convicted, he could face up to a year in prison. This recent arrest makes the fifth arrest of a 49ers player in the past...

Raiders get closer look at defensive end Zach Moore

Raiders get closer look at defensive end Zach Moore

One of the latest smalle school prospects to come in and get a look see from the Raiders is Concordia- St Paul defensive end, Zach Moore as confirmed by his agent. The NFL got a good look at Moore at the Minnesota pro day. They came for Minnesota DT Ra-Shede Hageman, but stayed for Zach Moore. He made enough of an impression for teams to schedule visits with him to look into perhaps taking a flier on him in the lower rounds. The 6-5, 269-pound defensive lineman was a top recruit out of high school but was declared academically ineligible to attend any Division one schools. He lit it up at...
