Raiders add Bay Area native, former Pro Bowler Lorenzo Alexander

The Raiders made a move today prior to their final preseason game. The team has bulked up their linebacking corps and special teams with the addition of 9-year NFL veteran linebacker Lorenzo Alexander. The Berkeley native and former All Pac-10 performer out of Cal played his first seven seasons in Washington from 2006 to 2012. In 2012 he was named to the Pro Bowl as a special teamer with 31 special teams tackles. He was also twice named the Redskins' Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee. The past two seasons, he played for the Cardinals, who the Raiders played last Sunday. In that game,...

Raiders Khalil Mack named top NFL player under 25 by ESPN

Earlier this offseason, Fox Sports put out their list of the top 25 players at 25 or younger. Shockingly Raiders dominating pass rusher Khail Mack was not on that list. ESPN didn't make the same mistake. Not only is Mack on their list, he tops that list which was put together by Mel Kiper and Mike Sando. Here is what they had to say about Mack: Jack Del Rio's move from Denver to Oakland naturally has generated talk about Mack becoming a Von Miller-type playmaker. Mack actually edged Miller for the top spot in Pro Football Focus' grading for 4-3 outside linebackers last season, largely...

Raiders Countdown to Kickoff: 12: Who wore it best, who's wearing it now

With 12 days until  the Raiders 2015 regular season opener, we reach a number that has a couple of Raider legends to have worn it. But as has often been the case in this series, I have to pick just one. Who wore it best: QB Ken Stabler (1970-79) While "The Snake" was at the helm of the Raiders, they rarely lost. He had a career record of 69-26. In his seven seasons as the fulltime starter in Oakland, he took them to the playoffs six times with a playoff record of 7-5 and a Super Bowl win. In that Super Bowl run, everyone knew the bigger game was the 24-7 win over the Steelers in the AFC...

Raiders preseason week 3 Ballers & Busters vs Cardinals

On Sunday night we all got our first real taste of what the 2015 Raiders. Some of it was sweet, some of it extremely bitter. That is to say, the defense was mouthwatering and the offense was gag reflex inducing. To be fair, the Cardinals have one hell of a defense. But there are no excuses in this business, and this team is going to face some tough defenses from time to time and their offense must perform better than it did Sunday. For that reason, you may notice the Ballers portion of this week's edition has a very defensive feel to it. In turn, the Busters will be downright offensive....

James Dockery released by Raiders

Among the Raiders' first round of cuts is cornerback James Dockery. The team acquired Dockery this offseason as a free agent. He was formerly a member of the Carolina Panthers. Originally an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns in 2011, he appeared in 12 games as a rookie with no starts. He then joined the Panthers where he spent the past three seasons. The California native grew up a Raiders fan and jumped at the chance to sign with them this offseason as a free agent. He appeared in 31 games in his four-year career with two starts in Carolina. Without a great many options for...

Former Raiders starter turned role player Sio Moore sees zero snaps on defense vs Arizona

It's been a rocky offseason for Sio Moore. The former All Rookie Team performer at linebacker and starter the past two seasons spent much of the offseason recovering from offseason hip surgery. Upon his return in camp he was relegated to second team. After a second stint during camp with an injury, he returned to the team last week. This time he has fallen even farther down the depth chart. "I think right now he's competing to be a role player somewhere," Jack Del Rio said of Moore. "We've got to make sure he can do that. I think he and Roy [Helu] are in the same boat in terms of guys who...

Cardinals vs. Raiders: What was the wow play in preseason Game 3?

Get your vote on for the wow play of the game. While the Arizona Cardinals managed to leave CA with a win, it wasn't due to the play of the starters. Oakland, looked better on both sides, and it seemed that finding an in game wow moment that was generated by other than Raider silver and black was going to be nigh impossible. Then the second and third teamers took the field for the Cardinals and managed to look competent against the Oakland Raiders, making some wow plays, and snatching victory from the opponent. Thank you second and third team players. Now, lets take a look at your...

The Morning After: Oakland Raiders vs Arizona Cardinals, Preseason Week 3

Last night's game against the Arizona Cardinals was an interesting one to say the least. If the defense plays like they did last night then they are going to be one of the best defensive teams in the league, unfortunately the opposite is true for the offense. My theory is that the defense probably won't be as good as they were last night, but the offense definitely won't be as bad as they were. Can you imagine if the defense plays like that all year though? Swarming tacklers, a crowded pocket for the QB, running backs being stopped consistently for little to no gain. The work of the first...

Raiders Countdown to Kickoff: 13: Who wore it best, who's wearing it now

One more preseason game down and we are at lucky number 13 until the Raiders regular season opener, which, as you might think, has never been a popular number. Just six players ever wore it for the Raiders. Who wore it best: QB Jay Schroeder (1988-92) He went to the Pro Bowl in 1986 in his second season in the league and got a Super Bowl ring as a backup with the Redskins in 1987. The next season, he joined the Raiders. He started 57 games over five seasons with the Raiders, leading them to winning records in his only two seasons as the fulltime starter and leading them to a playoff win in...

Cardinals vs. Raiders results: Recapping the recaps of the preseason win

Raiders starting right tackle job falls to Austin Howard with loss of Menelik Watson

Last week, Jack Del Rio was asked about how much he would play the starters in this game due to the rash of injuries that have happened across the NFL this preseason. He said it had crossed his mind, but still opted to keep his starters in the game into the third quarter. And then not even through the first quarter, Menelik Watson would rupture his Achilles tendon, knocking him out for the season. Taking over for Watson was Austin Howard, who started at right guard last season and who the coaching staff opted to switch to right tackle, which is where he played for his first four...

Cardinals vs. Raiders final score: What we learned in the 30-23 Arizona win

It was a win and we have things to talk about. The Arizona Cardinals got a win on Sunday night, defeating the Oakland Raiders 30-23 on an 11-yard touchdown run by Marion Grice with 36 second left in the game. There were struggles and highlights, as games tend to go. What did we learn in the win? Protecting Carson Palmer might be an issue to start the season The Cardinals gave up three first half sacks to the Raiders, two to Khalil Mack. Mack was beating everyone one on one. He beat Bradley Sowell. He made Jared Veldheer look bad. But while it looked like to everyone watching the game there...

Raiders RT Menelik Watson out for year with ruptured Achilles

It didn't look good when it happened, and the worst has come to fruition. The Raiders have lost RT Menelik Watson for the season with a ruptured Achilles. The Raiders have lost more than just a meaningless preseason game today, they lost their starting Right Tackle to a ruptured achilles. Menelik Watson was finally showing signs of coming into his own, but all of that momentum is halted now. He will be out for the season with this injury that he announced himself on Twitter. Ruptured Achilles' tendon... I Will be back stronger than ever that's a promise. Main thing is supporting the team...

Cardinals vs. Raiders final score: Carson Palmer struggles, Logan Thomas leads Cardinals to 30-23 Arizona win

The team got the win, but there were issues on the offensive line. The Arizona Cardinals finally got a preseason win on Sunday. Despite two interceptions in the first half by Carson Palmer and allowing three sacks to Khalil Mack and the improved Oakland Raiders defense, much-maligned Logan Thomas had some heroics. After the Raiders tied the score with just over two minutes left in the game, Thomas, with a couple of big plays by tight end Ifeanyi Momah, led Arizona to a touchdown to give Arizona a 30-23 win. The Raiders got on the board first. The Cardinals got a first down on their first...
