Blake Bortles has regressed this season but it won't matter if Raiders can't get their defense in order

Even with the Raiders jumping out to a 4-2 record this season, the defense has been looking like the same old cure for what ails opposing offenses. Ailing the Jaguars this season has been their offense, led by Blake Bortles who has not taken the next step in his development. And in this league, if you're not taking a step forward, you're taking a step back. Last season Bortles put up some fantastic numbers. And just for comparison, we put Derek Carr's numbers from last season below his. A season that had Carr headed to the Pro Bowl as an alternate. ...

Raiders week 6 Ballers & Busters vs Chiefs

Through the first five games of this season, the Raiders seemed to be playing with house money. Giving up a lot of points only to have the offense make a late comeback to pull it out. That caught up to them Sunday facing a well-prepared Chiefs team coming off a bye week. What was a close game at half time, didn’t remain that way for long. The Chiefs took a 13-10 lead into the third quarter and promptly added to it with a touchdown drive. They would add two more field goals in the second half while shutting out the Raiders the rest of the way to leave Oakland with a convincing 26-10...

Raiders week 6 Ballers & Busters vs Chiefs: Part two

Busters Jack Del Rio, Ken Norton Jr, Bill Musgrave I couldn’t single out any one coach in this instance. This was a complete collapse. They just weren’t ready for the Chiefs in any phase. If we give credit to Andy Reid for his great record following a bye week, then it’s only fair we look to Del Rio on the other side of things. Not to mention going for it on fourth and 5 from the Kansas City 32 cost the team a chance at a much needed three points. For an idea of how bad the defense was, you need only look at the numbers put up by Alex Smith and Spencer Ware. Smith completed all but...

Mark Davis calls Las Vegas “new home for the entire Raider Nation” after Nevada State assembly approves stadium bill

With just the expected signature of the governor, Raiders owner Mark Davis seems pretty confident his team will have a new home soon. Today the proposed Las Vegas stadium got a little closer to reality. The Nevada State assembly approved the bill "I would like to thank Governor Sandoval, the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee, and the members of the Nevada Legislature on this historic day," said Raiders owner Mark Davis. "All parties have worked extremely hard to develop and approve this tremendous stadium project that will serve as a proud new home for the entire Raider...

Thursday Night Football Open Thread: Broncos vs. Chargers

Two of the Raiders' divisional rivals square off in a key AFC West tilt tonight. Greetings, Raider fans! Tonight at 5:30 Pacific on NFL Network and streaming live on Twitter and on SBNation (link below) will be Broncos vs. Chargers, otherwise known as Mike McCoy's Last Stand. Speculation is rampant that if McCoy drops this game he will be in the unemployment line soon. Trevor Siemien will be playing tonight for the Broncos, whose offense did not fare well last game against the Falcons. Can Siemien restore the balance that was shown in Denver's first few games, or will Joey Bosa eat him for...

Raiders learning how to "make the winning plays"

With a 3-1 start to the 2016 season, the Raiders are finishing games and emerging victorious in situations they failed to win in 2015. 1.09 seconds. That is how long the football was in the air when Derek Carr threw a fade pass to Michael Crabtree with 47 seconds remaining in the Raiders week one match-up against the Saints. But it felt like an eternity as an entire game came down to one single moment. Crabtree leaped in the air and came down with the catch, ball game. Raiders win 35-34. Now 4-1 to begin the 2016 season, including three close wins, the difference between this Raiders team...

How Del Rio and the Raiders Have Become a Dangerous Team in the AFC

Five weeks into the 2016 NFL season and the Oakland Raiders have suddenly have the look of a winner. Last season the club started out 4-3, but then a three-game losing streak halted chatter of the postseason, and eventually the team ended 7-9. This season has started even better, as with Derek Carr and the […]

Raiders Move to 4-1; Beat Chargers 34-31 in Oakland

The Raiders keep finding new ways to win late in games, while the Chargers somehow manage to find even more painful ways to lose. Derek Carr threw a go-ahead 21-yard touchdown pass to Michael Crabtree on a fourth-and-2 gamble and the Raiders survived when the Chargers botched a potential tying kick late in a 34-31 […]

Raiders-Chargers injury report: Latavius Murray ruled OUT, as are several Chargers DB's

After missing all week of practice with turf toe, and the team attempting to find a way to get him on the field, Latavius Murray has been officially ruled OUT against the Chargers. Also ruled out for the Raiders are right tackle Menelik Watson and safety Nate Allen. As if Jason Verrett heading to injured reserve today wasn't enough fellow cornerback Brandon Flowers (concussion), and safety Jahleel Addae (clavicle) have been ruled OUT. Missing the past two practices for the Chargers is starting inside linebacker Denzel Perryman. He is officially listed as questionable. Fellow ILB Nick...

Raiders 4-point favorites over Chargers in week 5

For just the second time this season, the Raiders are playing in Oakland. It's also just the second time this season they are favored. That home game against the Falcons is the only other time this season they were the favorites and it happens to be their only loss of the season. At that point, the Falcons were underestimated by most people. They have gone on to win three-straight, putting up big numbers in the process. The Chargers 1-3 record in the inverse of that and have already twice blown fourth quarter leads, while the Raiders have had two fourth quarter comeback wins. Thus putting...

Pro Bowl corner Jason Verrett added to Chargers long injured reserve list as they prepare to face Raiders

Already walking wounded, the Chargers have now lost their Pro Bowl cornerback. Last week the Chargers lost a heartbreaker in San Diego to the winless Saints. The Saints pulled out the win 35-34, which just so happens to be the same exact score the Raiders beat the Saints in New Orleans. And today the news got worse as they will lose Pro Bowl cornerback Jason Verrett for the season with a torn ACL. Some of you may remember Verrett had his first career interception in 2014 against the Raiders. It was a game-winning interception, as the Chargers beat the Raiders 31-28 in Oakland that day. It...

Sunday Night Football game time open thread: Steelers vs. Chefs

As we bask in the glow of Oakland's win in Baltimore, let's watch along as the Steelers battle the Chefs! Greetings, Raider fans! It's a great day to be a part of Raider Nation. The Chargers have already lost today while the Broncos are currently up big in Tampa during a weather delay due to God not wanting the Broncos to move to 4-0. While we here at Silver & Black Pride are very upset that either the Steelers or Chefs must win this game, we are ecstatic that one of the teams will lose it. Pittsburgh boasts the exciting aerial attack of Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown, while Kansas...

Raiders-Ravens injury report: Rodney Hudson returns to practice

There is good news for the Oakland Raiders in today's injury report, but there is also some bad news. The good news is that Rodney Hudson, their centerpiece to their offensive line, has returned to limited action in practice after not participating yesterday. However, the bad news is that starting right tackle Menelik Watson has not been able to participate in practice this week and neither has top backup right tackle Austin Howard. With neither one being able to practice this week it leaves both of their availabilities in doubt for Sunday against the Ravens. Baltimore on the other hand is...
