Rival Report 5/26: Inglewood may have falsified accounting records to lure NFL franchise

There is a new controversy brewing over the NFL's move to LA, though this one has nothing at all to do with the NFL actually. According to Inglewood's former budget and accounting manager Barbara Ohno, the city falsified their accounting records to appear more financially responsible than they really were. Ohno is now suing the city for wrongful termination after she was fired after the city claimed that she failed her probationary period of time on the new job. During this probationary period Ohno says that she discovered irregularities in the system such as receiving payments owed to the...

Bruce Irvin vocal leadership instills much needed confidence in Raiders teammates

The Oakland Raiders have assembled a highly talented team, and linebacker Bruce Irvin appears to be rallying them to fulfill their potential and restore the franchise's legacy. Cornerback Lester Hayes provided one of the most iconic images in Raiders history before Super Bowl XV. Squatting on the sideline, helmet in hand, Hayes declared to NFL Films: "Super Sunday what a day . . . And we’re gonna win. We are going to win. No question." The Silver and Black we’re underdogs and had dropped a 10-7 regular season game to the Dick Vermeil-coached Eagles. Nevertheless, they thoroughly...

Raiders insert Kelechi Osemele at left guard, Gabe Jackson makes switch to right guard

As OTA's begin for the Raiders, Gabe Jackson takes his new position at right guard with new addition Kelechi Osemele at left guard With the addition of free agent guard Kelechi Osemele, there was some speculation that Gabe Jackson would be switching to the right guard spot from left guard where he played for the past two seasons. With the team's first OTA practice, I can confirm that move has been made. The first team offensive line for the first OTA practice from left to right looked like this: LT Donald PennLG Kelechi OsemeleC Rodney HudsonRG Gabe JacksonRT Menelik Watson Osemele...

Mark Davis's suggestion that move to Las Vegas would "unite the Raider Nation" is utter nonsense

Today Mark Davis was at the league owners meetings in Charlotte North Carolina Tuesday and he stopped to speak with the media where he made one of the more 'WTF' statements that has been uttered in the entire conversation surrounding the Raiders attempts to find a new stadium, which are currently focused on trying to gain support and financing for a potential move to Las Vegas. "It has the potential to be a really exciting market. It's a new market. It's got the potential to be a really exciting market. It's one of the places that the Raider fans in Northern California would get upset a...

Mario Edwards Jr leaves Raiders OTA practice early, several others absent

Raiders second year defensive end may have had a setback in his return from his neck injury as he was unable to finish the team's first OTA practice. Earlier this month, Mario Edwards said he was fully cleared to return to practice for the Raiders. He was on the field for the start of OTA practice, but left following the warmup period and didn't return. Edwards had missed the final three games of last season with a neck injury and his status to return had been uncertain for a good portion of the offseason. It's possible Edwards suffered a setback, though it's unknown whether his departure...

Raiders waive Andre Debose, add two wide receivers

For the second straight offseason, Andre Debose is has been waived as injured. It was almost exactly a year ago a seventh round rookie that Debose tore his Achilles and was waived/injured. It happened in the team's first OTA practices. He is headed there once again before the team even starts OTA's. He was drafted to be the team's return specialist and the team was hoping to get him back into that role this season, but it would appear they will once again have to look elsewhere to fill that role. Also waived was quarterback Garrett Gilbert. In corresponding moves, the team added two...

Rival Report 5/24: Annie Apple, NFL player's mom and newest hire from ESPN

It is pretty safe to call this a one of a kind story, because I definitely don't remember anything close to this happening ever before. The Giants selected cornerback Eli Apple in the first round of the 2016 draft, but it is his mom Annie Apple that became a star afterwards. From refusing to let her "unemployed, college dropout" son wear a borrowed rolex to the draft to calling out false reports of Eli Apple not being able to cook for himself by mic dropping that his dad was a 5 star chef so show some "Respek", Annie Apple captured our attention and our hearts with her draft experience...

2016 Raiders take field for first OTA tomorrow

For the first time in 2016 the new Raiders will take the field for Organized Training this week. There have been offseason workouts going on for the past few weeks as well as rookie minicamp, but now's when things start to get interesting. What makes this week different is it is the first time the team will be permitted to do team sessions, including 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills. No live contact will be permitted. While it is not mandatory for players to attend yet, most, if not all, on the current roster are expected to attend. That means all returning players, new additions,...

NFL official twitter starts trend with #MackMondays

As if it wasn't already clear that Khalil Mack is the new 'It' guy among NFL defenders, the NFL's official twitter account has hopped firmly onto the hype train. Today they started a hashtag movement called #MackMondays in which they post highlights of some of the amazing plays Khalil Mack made last season. Thus far they have posted two highlight videos, so it's hard to say how far they are looking to take this 'movement'. I suppose we'll have to wait until at least next week to see if the plural of Mondays is accurate. The first installment was a play where Mack was not fooled for an...

Group led by Ronnie Lott met with Raiders about building stadium in Oakland

For the first time in a while, someone is stepping up with efforts to get a stadium built in Oakland. Among the group's investors are former Raiders Ronnie Lott and Rodney Peete, who recently met with Raiders brass as well as Oakland officials with a proposal to be the developer on a new stadium according to the San Francisco Chronicle. This development group, which would like to take over the plans on the current 120-acre coliseum site, has some heavy hitters in its ranks. Among them are Atlanta developer Egbert Perry who is chairman of the board of Fannie Mae as well as CEO of the real...

No special Raiders stadium session yet for Nevada legislature

Any stadium deal for the Raiders in Las Vegas will likely require a special session of the Nevada legislature. The state is holding off for now. The Oakland Raiders interest in a potential Las Vegas relocation has received endorsements from Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones, but there are still plenty of hurdles remaining. Discussions have started to center around financing that would call for $500 million from Mark Davis, $150 million from Sheldon Adelson and the Las Vegas Sands Group, and as much as $750 million coming from tourist taxes. Naturally, the city of Las Vegas and state of Nevada...

Rival Report 5/23: Report says NFL tried to influence government head trauma study

The NFL continues to shoot themselves in the foot with unnecessary mistakes. This one is a doozy though, even by NFL standards. According to an Outside the Lines ESPN report, the NFL offered a $16 Million donation to a government run National Institute of Health (NIH) brain study, which they then took back after they decided they did not like the person chosen to head the study. The absurdity of this is pretty clear, they wanted the good press of the donation but only if they had somebody they trusted doing the research. When the NIH announced that Neurodegenerative disease specialist...

Will 2016 be Matt McGloin's last hurrah with Raiders?

Oakland Raiders backup Matt McGloin will be an unrestricted free agent next year and could command more on the open market than general manager Reggie McKenzie cares to allot to a reserve position. When Oakland Raiders G.M. Reggie McKenzie traded up in the 2016 NFL Draft and surrendered a pick to take quarterback Connor Cook that signaled to many that backup Matt McGloin’s roster spot was being challenged. It is, but probably not for the 2016 campaign. Entering his fourth season, McGloin became a restricted free agent and the Raiders rewarded his efforts with a 1-year, $2,553,000...

This explains why Shilique Calhoun rookie deal is last remaining for Raiders

Just one rookie contract remains for the Raiders -- third round pick Shilique Calhoun. There's a good reason why it's not done yet. There was a time when rookie contracts took quite some time to get done. Back when agents could negotiate whatever they felt their client was worth and contracts didn't get done until the ones at the top were signed. It was cause for a great many holdouts such as Raiders former number one overall pick JaMarcus Russell's holdout lasted into his rookie season in 2008 along with current Raiders receiver Michael Crabtree who was selected by the 49ers at 10th...

Pics, videos of Raiders Connor Cook, DeAndre Washington from NFLPA Rookie Premiere

The NFLPA Rookie Premiere was this weekend, with 40 NFL Rookies in attendance. Representing the Raiders was QB Connor Cook and RB DeAndre Washington. Both players got to wear their Nike Official jerseys for the first time. While it would have been nice to see the Raiders' actual top pick rookie Karl Joseph or even Jihad Ward or Shilique Calhoun, alas they play defense and therefore must wait to don their official jersey. Here are a few images which were sent out of Cook and Washington in their new NFL gear. Connor Cook first: Making history starts here! Connor Cook class of 2016...

Raiders' Rodney Hudson NFL's top pass blocking center?

It has become apparent this offseason that Pro Football Focus is a big fan of the Raiders' offensive line. Earlier this offseason they said the Raiders will rival the Cowboys for the best offensive line in football. And if you look at the individual grades they have on those linemen, you can see why. Getting some love most recently is Rodney Hudson, who they have tied for the best pass blocking efficiency in the league along with, of course, Cowboys center Travis Frederick. Best pass-blocking efficiency among NFL centers in 2015:t-1. Travis Frederick, DALt-1. Rodney Hudson, OAK3. Stefen...

Patriots owner Kraft voices support for Raiders to Vegas

Prominent NFL owner Robert Kraft told USA Today that he would have no problem with the Raiders moving to Sin City if they can't get a stadium deal done in the Bay Area. Today in an interview with USA Today, Patriots owner Robert Kraft added his voice to the list of those who support the Raiders' potentially moving to Las Vegas. Robert Kraft tells @JarrettBell he would support @RAIDERS move to Vegas if they can't get stadium deal in Bay Area. https://t.co/RUYvmg3G90 — USA TODAY Sports NFL (@usatoday_nfl) May 20, 2016 The article in question is a really good one and I'd suggest you...

Raiders sign sixth round LB Cory James, just one rookie left to sign

The Raiders announced Friday that they have signed sixth round linebacker Cory James to his rookie deal. James becomes the sixth of the team's seven draft picks to sign his deal, leaving just third round pick Shilique Calhoun as the lone remaining rookie to sign. And being that it's 'Reggie Friday' I wouldn't doubt it if Calhoun finished it out today. James was selected 194th overall in the sixth round out of Colorado State. He played in 51 games with 46 starts over four seasons with the Rams, totaling 230 tackles (112 solo), 24 sacks, four forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and three...

Rival Report 5/20: Washington Post survey finds 90% of Native Americans polled not offended by name "Redskins"

It's that time of year again, the time where we have a debate about a certain name of a team in the NFL that should or shouldn't still exist in 2016. That's right folks, the debate over the name "Redskins" has hit the main stream again, though this time the defense of the name got some ammunition. Those bullets come in the form of a Poll put out by the Washington post that asked whether the name was offensive to 504 self-proclaimed Native Americans. In a surprising twist, 9 out of 10 of the people polled said that they do not believe the name is offensive. Well, if 90% of 504 people don't...

Dashon Goldson wants to be a Raider, but does Oakland want him?

Dashon Goldson's camp has contacted the Raiders about bringing him in for a look. How could the Raiders use the former All-Pro safety? It wasn't that long ago that Dashon Goldson was a member of a 49ers defense that was amongst the most feared and respected in football, and Goldson one of the biggest hitters in the game. After leaving the Niners, Goldson spent two years with Tampa Bay and last season with Washington, who recently released him. A Carson, CA native, Goldson is looking to spent the remainder of his career closer to home. He talked to SiriusXM on Wednesday about his future...
