Poll Position: Do Raiders have a need at offensive tackle?

With the ‘skill position' players all getting their Poll Position treatment, we move to the offensive line. We start with the offensive tackles to take a look at what kind of need the Raiders have at the position. Here are the offensive tackles currently on the roster Donald Penn Signed off the scrap heap from the Buccaneers last off-season and was the savior of the Raiders offensive line with the departure of Jared Veldheer. Penn played at a very high level at the left tackle position, although he will be 32 in April. He signed a two-year deal with the team and there are no guarantees he...

Poll Position: Do Raiders have a need at tight end?

As we continue the Poll Position series, it just so happens the Raiders tight end position is a bit of a hot topic with Stockton native and Free-Agent-to-be Julius Thomas recently making some statements that suggest he is very much interested in signing with the Raiders this off-season. That conversation brings us nicely into just how big a need do you guys think the Raiders have at tight end. Here is how the position stacks up right now: Mychal Rivera Came out strong as a rookie out of necessity. Should Raiders target TE Julius Thomas in Free Agency?

One of the playmaker names out there for the free agent class of 2015 is Denver Broncos Tight End Julius Thomas. Something intriguing about Julius Thomas is that he grew up in Northern California and that many members of his family happen to be fans of the Oakland Raiders. See the door there, it is definitely cracked open. Proof of that possibility comes via the radio station 95.7 The Game which had an interview with Julius on their show "The Wheelhouse with John Lund and Greg Papa". "Everything is a possibility, I guess the Raiders would have to want me in order for negotiations to start...

Raiders sign Charles Woodson to contract extension

It's official, Charles Woodson will be returning for at least one more season with the Raiders. The team re-signed the veteran defensive back to an extension on Monday. This comes a week after the team brought back Defensive Backs coach Marcus Robertson, who Woodson had said would need to be retained if he were to decide to come back next season. The 38-year-old had a very good season in 2014, his second since returning to the team that drafted him, and where he played the first eight seasons of his career. Lions assistant Bobby Johnson hired by Raiders

The Detroit Lions' assistant offensive line coach has taken a job with the Oakland Raiders. The Detroit Lions are expected to retain defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, and they ensured that quarterbacks coach Jim Bob Cooter will be back by blocking the Chicago Bears from interviewing him. There will be at least one change to the Lions' coaching staff in 2015, though, as assistant offensive line coach Bobby Johnson has been hired by the Oakland Raiders. Bobby Johnson's contract with the #Lions is set to expire, so he'll join the #Raiders as TEs coach. Offensive staff should be done...

Rob Moore lands Raiders wide receivers coach position

Rob Moore interviewed with the Raiders Sunday. That interview went well. He is now the Raiders wide receivers coach according to Jerry McDonald of the Mercury News. It has been anything but a slow news day for the Raiders. Moore is one of three hires the team made along the offensive side of the ball today. The others were tight ends coach, Bobby Johnson and running backs coach Bernie Parmalee. As for Moore and Parmalee, they were both longtime NFL players during the same era Jack Del Rio played, so he likely remembers them well from those days. Del Rio was a middle linebacker who likely...

Bernie Parmalee is Raiders new running backs coach

The Raiders continue to fill out their offensive staff. They now have a running backs coach; it's Bernie Parmalee, who hasn't coached on the NFL level since 2012 when he spent three seasons as the tight ends coach in Kansas City. Being a tight ends coach is not Parmalee's calling, though. He was an NFL running back for nine seasons. Most of his career was spent with the Dolphins (1992-98), with his final two seasons spent with the Jets (1999-2000). Two years after his playing career was over, he returned to the Dolphins became as tight ends coach and special teams coach (2002-04). After...

He will be the Raiders Tight Ends coach as first reported by Sports Illustrated's Thayer Evans. Johnson coached the tight ends for the Lions in 2013 before taking over as Asst OL coach. He has been coaching in the NFL for five years, switching back and forth between tight ends coach with the Jaguars in 2012 and Asst OL coach for two seasons in Buffalo. Previous to 2010, he had coached at the collegiate level for 15 years. In 2013 under Johnson, the Lions had one of the better tight end...

Report: Raiders to interview college coach for defensive coordinator Sunday

Since Jack Del Rio was named the Raiders new head coach, he has been busy hiring assistants. Thus far there are five members of the staff. But none of those assistants is a Defensive Coordinator. They have reportedly interviewed two candidates -- Eric Mangini and Mike Smith -- but neither has taken the job. All the while they have hired two members of the defensive staff. One of those defensive staffers is new linebackers coach Sal Sunseri, who -- formerly the defensive end coach at Florida State and the linebackers coach at Alabama before that -- comes directly from the college...

Senior Bowl 2015: Five standouts

The Senior Bowl is one of the biggest events in preparation for the NFL Draft. It is a great way for seniors to raise their stock by practicing and playing well against other top seniors. But these seniors also get a great opportunity to showcase their talents in front of scouts and coaches. This year, the North won 34-13, but it's not the score of the game that matters, what's important is how individual players performed. Here are some players that impressed Saturday. 1. The Running Backs After a great performance in which he rushed for 73 yards and also had 40 receiving yards for a...

The 2015 Pro Bowl comes on Sunday night at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Gone is the traditional AFC / NFC match-up. It has been replaced by a fantasy football-style draft, which was held earlier this week. The Raiders have just one Pro Bowler -- fullback Marcel Reece -- who is on Team Irvin. There are some new, odd rules the NFL is implementing for this Pro Bowl, including the size of the goal posts, the length of an extra point and having extra timeouts. There aren't any kickoffs either! Read about some of the new rules below. The Pro Bowl is once again being...

Poll Position: Do Raiders have a need at wide receiver?

We leave the offensive backfield now and move to the pass catchers. A group that hasn't seen a 1000-yard performer in a decade. The last to surpass quadruple digits was Randy Moss in 2005. Could that 1000-yard receiver be on the team now? I'll let you decide. James Jones Was signed as a free agent last off-season from Green Bay. The San Jose native made his homecoming with the Raiders and was the team's top target. He caught 73 passes for 666 yards and 6 touchdowns. Yes, he caught the mark of the beast in his first season in Oakland. Andre Holmes While Jones had the team lead in receptions,...

Poll Position: Do Raiders have a need at fullback?

Next position up for debate is the fullback position. If you haven't voted in the poll for running backs, you can go here to do that (there wasn't a poll originally due to some technical difficulties). If we're all caught up, let's take a look at the bruisers who pave the way for the running backs and catch the occasional pass out of the backfield. Marcel Reece The Raiders only Pro Bowl player the past couple seasons. He continues to be the most versatile fullback and all-around weapon out of the backfield in the league. And yet, he is usually underutilized. Aside from his usual blocking...
