Raiders waive rookie draft pick Shelby Harris

Raiders waive rookie draft pick Shelby Harris

For the second consecutive season the Raiders have drafted a defensive end in the seventh round and then cut him. Last season it was David Bass, the team's final pick in the draft, who was released. This time it is Shelby Harris who has been waived. Harris performed well in the preseason but was criticized by Dennis Allen for his practice habits. He was inactive for the first two games of the season. All the while the team signed defensive end Benson Mayowa away from the Seahawks and he was active ahead of Harris. Harris came to the Raiders as a troubled case. He started his college career...

Maurice Jones-Drew, Carlos Rogers return to practice

After having five starters miss practice on Wednesday, the Raiders got some good news Thursday -- three of them were back practicing according to media present at practice. Justin Tuck was out with illness and he returned today. But most notably Maurice Jones-Drew and Carlos Rogers were back at practice. Jones-Drew had been out all last week after he suffered a hand injury in the opener that required a minor procedure to be done. Dennis Allen said at the time that MJD was "day-to-day" and missed the home opener last week against Houston. Hist status for the game is still uncertain. Rogers...

Derek Carr on Charles Woodson's ‘We suck' statement: "I'm with him"

The always outspoken, pull-no-punches Charles Woodson was his usual self following the Raiders' 30-14 loss to the Texans last Sunday. He made some headlines when he made the flat statement of the Raiders "We suck". He went on to say much more, including that he was embarrassed for the team and the fans. Wendesday Derek Carr had his chance to weigh in on Woodson's statements, and he offered no disagreement to Woodson's blunt criticisms. "I understand what he's saying," said Carr. "Obviously we didn't play at the level to which we want to play at and that we can play at. I probably...

This according to multiple reports from media on hand. Sio Moore and Rod Streater were both injured in the game Sunday. Moore suffered an ankle injury and Streater has a hip flexor. Raiders week two Ballers & Busters

We are only in week two of the 2014 season and the Raiders already look like they're in ‘maybe next year' mode. They are 0-2 with losses to the Jets and the Texans and looked worse this week than they did in the opener. This time losing by a final score of 30-14. But the score was not indicative of how lopsided this one was. It's times like these when detailing individual performances can offer some solace that it wasn't all bad. It can also help to make some sense to why things went as poorly as they did in a game that was 27-0 heading into the fourth quarter and a Raiders team that gave...

Report: Raiders sign free agent wide receiver Vincent Brown

Report: Raiders sign free agent wide receiver Vincent Brown

The Raiders have signed free agent wide receiver Vincent Brown to a one-year contract according to sources close to Michael Gehlkin of the San Diego Union Tribune. He was cut by the Chargers early this month just prior to the start of the regular season. The Raiders worked Brown out Monday and appear to have liked what they saw and signed him immediately after. The 5-11 receiver had a productive season last year for the Chargers, catching 41 passes for 472 yards. He made a strong impression on the Raiders last season when he caught seven passes for 117 yards when the Raiders faced the...

The Morning After: Oakland Raiders vs Houston Texans

The Morning After: Oakland Raiders vs Houston Texans

"We Suck" Those are the words that Charles Woodson used after the game and it really is just that simple. They suck. This is not a good football team and it won't be as long as Dennis Allen is in charge of it. Patience has been given as much as possible for "Coach" Dennis Allen, but it has worn through. The guy just simply looks lost and confused, unable to comprehend how to win or what is even going on. It is time to remove the tumor. It is time to be rid of "Coach" Dennis Allen. That may sound harsh to some after just the 2nd game of the season, but in all honesty this season is not...

A running joke in Oakland

There's this problem the Raiders keep running into. It was there when they went to New York and still there when they came back to Oakland. It's the ground. More specifically the ability for the opposing offenses to cover it and their inability to show any signs of moving on it. The Jets had three capable runners on their offense. They had Chris Johnson and Chris Ivory as well as Geno Smith. All three of them had success against the Raiders defense. The line wasn't putting up a fight and the linebackers were often simply not at home. The result was giving up 212 yards rushing. Ivory led the...

Charles Woodson sums it up for demoralized Raiders:

Charles Woodson sums it up for demoralized Raiders: "We suck"

The Raiders suffered a demoralizing defeat in Oakland today. The Texans walked into a sold-out O.co Coliseum in Oakland and ripped the Raiders from the first snap and throughout the game in a 30-14 route. They had a poor showing in the season opener against the Jets and managed to look much worse against the Texans who last season had the worst record in football. After such a loss, the mood is somber and the answers are hard to find. And sometimes the players at the heart of it can only tell it like it is. Few players do that more than Charles Woodson who didn't pull any punches in his...

Raiders vs Texans final score: Home opening embarrassment 30-14

Raiders vs Texans final score: Home opening embarrassment 30-14

The Raiders sold out their home opener against the Houston Texans. Which only made the boos that much louder and the silence that much more deafening as 54,000 fans gave a collective "Here we go again." The Texans took the opening drive for a score, just as the Jets had in the season opener. This time it was much worse for the hapless Raiders. The Texans used a good mixture of Arian Foster and Ryan Fitzpatrick to put this one out of hand very early. On the first drive, the big play came on third down and three when Justin Tuck tipped a pass at the line but Andre Johnson was still able to...

Oakland Raiders vs Houston Texans Final Score 14-30: Raiders completely embarrassed by Texans

The game did not begin well for the Raiders with the Texans immediately driving down for a touchdown on the opening drive. It looked like a 41 yard TD run from Foster but he was called down at the 1/2 yard line. It didn't matter though, because they scored 2 plays later anyway. I'd have rather they had scored on the long run over the trick play they did score on with a 1 yd touchdown pass to JJ Watt. It got worse immediately after that with a 3 and out from the Raiders on their first possession. Unlike their offense, the Oakland defense just could not get off the field on 3rd down. They...

Oakland Raiders vs Houston Texans 2nd half thread

Total domination. That is what the first quarter to this game was, and it was not in the Oakland Raiders favor. 23 plays, 14 points for the Texans to 3 plays, 0 points Raiders. Total. Freaking. Domination. The Raiders could not do anything at all in that first quarter. Arian Foster gashed them on a 41 yard run to the goal line. They didn't  score on that run but 2 plays later they were in the end zone anyway. A Raiders 3 and out gave them the ball right back. Sure enough, the Texans drove all the way down again and scored another TD. They converted 4 3rd down plays on the drive which...

Maurice Jones-Drew among Raiders inactives, Latavius Murray to see first NFL carry

The inactives are out for the Raiders vs the Texans. Among them is Maurice Jones-Drew who had a procedure done on his injured hand last week. In his absence, Latavius Murray is expected to see some carries in this game. It would be his first as an NFL player. After a season on injured reserve and last week receiving no carries as the third running back, Latavius Murray will get his first extensive regular season action at running back. He will get some carries behind starter, Darren McFadden. The second-year back out of Central Florida looked very good this preseason and has also taken...
