Raiders travel third most miles in NFL this season

As they are most every season, the Raiders are among those teams which travel the most miles. Specifically they are third in miles traveled this season according to figures collected by CBS Sports. The team which will spend the most time on a plane are the 49ers who travel a total of 27,998 miles. The Raiders at 26,336 miles traveled would be right behind them except for the fact that the Dolphins (26,452 miles traveled) make the trip to London this year. Even with the trip to London, that's a different of just 116 miles total. If you're thinking this happens every year, you'd be right....

AFC West LT trouble: Ryan Clady lost for season, Eric Fisher demoted

Things are not looking too good for a couple of AFC West teams at the left tackle spot. First and foremost, the Broncos just lost All Pro left tackle Ryan Clady for the year with a torn ACL. Meanwhile, the Chiefs' former number one overall pick Eric Fisher appears to have fallen to second on the depth chart behind Donald Stephenson. Clady has held down the left tackle spot for the Broncos the past seven seasons. In that time, he has gone to four Pro Bowls -- including last season -- and been named All Pro twice. And this news is sure to give Peyton Manning a bit of a crick in his neck. In...

What's the Raiders scariest position group?

Last season there wasn't a lot on this Raiders team that struck fear into their opponents. Recently NFL.com's Bucky Brooks put together the top ten scariest position groups cross the NFL, and not surprisingly, the Raiders didn't have a position which made the list. But which group would come closest to being even considered? We can easily eliminate most positions like running backs (big questions), offensive line (that right side), defensive line (still don't know where the pass rush is coming from), and cornerbacks (young, unproven). Wide receivers? This could be the deepest this group...

NFL players vote Raiders Charles Woodson to Top 100 of 2015

The NFL Network put together their Top 100 of 2015 as voted on by the players. And Raiders safety Charles Woodson made the list. Raiders Charles Woodson continues his unnatural run in the NFL and even at age 39 he is mentioned among the best in the NFL. The latest holds the high honor of being voted by fellow NFL players to be among the NFL Network Top 100. He lands at 64th in the league. Woodson had a career high 113 tackles last season along with four interceptions. He continues to play at a high level approaching his 40s on his way to the Hall of Fame five years after he eventually...

Raiders add two free agents to roster, waive two

In the midst of the Raiders second set of OTA's, they are busy making more roster moves. Today they added linebacker Horace Miller and re-signed undrafted free agent wide receiver Milton Williams III. In corresponding moves, the team has released wide receiver Austin Hill and cornerback Travell Dixon who had been signed as undrafted free agents earlier this month. Miller was waived last month by the Carolina Panthers after having spent much of last season on their practice squad before being called up to the active roster late last season. He was originally signed by the Seahawks in...

Raiders former top WR Rod Streater eager to get back in "rhythm" with Derek Carr

Rod Streater has been the forgotten man around the Raiders of late. The team's former leading receiver missed most of last season with a foot injury and figures to be very much in the mix at receiver this season. But first, Derek Carr must return from his injury. It seems Raiders wide receiver Rod Streater and quarterback Derek Carr have been like two ships passing in the night for a while. No sooner was Streater back on the field, ready to go but Carr was sidelined with his finger injury. "He's out there, so I feel like he is learning." Streater said of Carr. "He is a pro. He is going to...

Raiders again among NFL's top selling jerseys

Folks in NFL circles like to say the league is better when the Raiders are good. That may be true, but for merchandise sales, it doesn't seem to matter one way or the other. As Dallas Morning News' Rick Gosselin noted, the Raiders are yet again among the top jersey sales in the NFL. Third most to be exact. According to NFL sales, the five top-selling jerseys are: 1) Green Bay; 2) Pittsburgh; 3) Oakland; 4) Dallas; 5) Kansas City. — Rick Gosselin (@RickGosselinDMN) May 26, 2015 These rankings are just about on par with the recent ESPN jersey power rankings which put the Raiders...

Christian Ponder accepts backup role with Raiders, making most of his reps

The unquestioned starter at quarterback for the Raiders this offseason is second year man, Derek Carr. But unfortunately, Carr has a finger injury that is keeping him from throwing passes. In his absence, Christian Ponder and Matt McGloin have shared the first team reps. What's interesting is despite McGloin entering his third season, it's Ponder who is ahead of the learning curve. That's because, though Ponder is new to the Raiders, he and Raiders new offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave worked together for three years in Minnesota. Ponder said Tuesday following OTA practice that Musgrave's...

A major part of the event will be photo shoots and signings for sports card companies such as Topps, and Panini America. Derek Carr taking snaps at Raiders second OTA session

If only to show Derek Carr's injury is not overly serious, the second year quarterback was taking snaps in Raiders OTA practices Tuesday, according to media in attendance including Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group who noted he was going through drills handing the ball off and pitching to running backs. Once the passing drills started, Carr was once again watching, as Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle shows here: Carr watches receivers go to work #Raiders pic.twitter.com/Ax5Leoh43v — Vic Tafur (@VicTafur) May 26, 2015 Carr has a finger injury on his throwing hand which...

NFL stamps out Al Davis torch plans, bumps up stadium money

A major subject at the NFL's May owners meeting was the various stadium situations for the three teams looking to either move to Los Angeles or get a deal done in their current home market. The Raiders are in the thick of that conversation while they look to have a new stadium plan in place by next year either in Oakland or Carson. In those efforts, they got some good news and some bad news, as Daniel Kaplan of the Sports Journal pointed out. First, the good news: NFL owners in a major change to ownership rules, last week voted to allow irrevocable trusts to own teams, will greatly ease...

Five Raiders who need to step up in 2015

If the Raiders hope to improve from their 3-win 2014 season, there are a few players who will need to step up. Here are the five players whose ability to shoulder the load will be key to the team's success in 2015. 1. Derek Carr Let's put perceived potential aside for a moment. Derek Carr did not tear it up last season. He finished 2014 as one of the worst rated starting quarterbacks in the NFL last season. Those who wish to give him the benefit of the doubt - he IS a rookie, after all - will say he didn't get a lot of help. The Raiders' receiving corps was mediocre, the run game was...

What we learned at Raiders first OTA session, practice notes

First off, I hope everyone is having a happy and safe Memorial Day. We here at Silver & Black Pride are ever grateful for those service men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to save the lives of others and preserve our way of life. There has been a bit of an outcry for coverage of the Raiders' first OTA practice. The reason being that most of the Bay Area media was posted up in San Francisco for the owners meetings. But I was on the right(hand) side of the Bay and being that there weren't any real bombshells, I kinda dropped the ball. Even still, there were a few things learned from...

This tweet sums up how sad the Oakland Raiders have become

This is just amazing: In 20 seasons since moving back to Oakland in 1995, the Raiders have 3 winning seasons (2000-02). — Scott Kacsmar (@FO_ScottKacsmar) May 25, 2015 That's really sad. At least they went to a Super Bowl (they lost) but I don't even think that high is worth all other lows. Since that Super Bowl, the Raiders have eight games twice and five or fewer games 10 times.

Catching up with Tim Brown on the road to Canton

I caught up with Raiders legendary receiver, Tim Brown, as he is now headed for his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He shared how his life has changed in the wake of being named to the 2015 class and what's next for him. In the military, one of our favorite sayings was ‘hurry up and wait'. It's a phrase that has made its way into our everyday lives as it seems to relate to many facets of life. Such was the case with Tim Brown's NFL career and beyond. The now Hall of Fame former NFL receiver spent 17 years -- 16 of which as a member of the Raiders -- sculpting his legacy....

Tim Brown to receive Hall of Fame ring at Raiders week 8 home game vs Jets

Raiders legendary wide receiver Tim Brown will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this August. That's when he will take to the podium in Canton to receive his bust and yellow jacket. The party isn't over there. As Brown told me in an exclusive interview Thursday, he will be receiving his Hall of Fame ring during the team's week eight game in Oakland. "I'll be getting my ring on November 1st," Brown said. "Not quick enough, but that's the days that the Raiders have said, so I'll be looking forward to that. Not only will I be getting my ring, but the other Hall of Famers for the Raiders will...
