Raiders draft pick 2015: In depth look at rookie LB Neiron Ball and what he brings to the Raiders

One of the more surprising picks for the Raiders in the 2015 NFL Draft, 5th round selection Neiron Ball will need to prove that he is healthy and will remain that way for Oakland. One of the biggest points of Reggie McKenzie's plan as the GM for the Oakland Raiders is to bring in people that have a lot of heart and have overcome adversity. There isn't a better example for that plan than 5th round selection out of Florida, Neiron Ball. Measurables: 6'2 1/2", 236lbs Combine Results: 22 Bench Press Stats: 2014: 49 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, 2 pass defensed, 1 forced fumble 2013:25...

Raiders legendary RB Marv Hubbard passes at age 68

The Raiders organization mourned the passing of one of their own on Monday. Marv Hubbard, who was the anchor of the Raiders running attack in the early 70s died at the age of 68. "The Raiders are saddened to learn of the passing of former Raiders running back Marv Hubbard, who played for the Raiders from 1969-75." said the team in a press release Monday. Known as "Marvelous Marv" back in those days, he played eight seasons in the NFL, the first seven with the Oakland Raiders from 1969-75. During that time he was named to 3 Pro Bowls as a fullback. Known for his punishing running style,...

S&BP community Raiders draft prediction contest winners

Congratulations to our two winners, oaktown925 and Danbaker3333! With 88 total submissions, we had two official winners — both of whom predicted (just) 2 correct picks (Amari Cooper and Clive Walford). In fact, Cooper and Walford were the only two players any of the submissions predicted in the correct round. One other submission correctly predicted the selection of Ben Heeney, however it was in the wrong round. Its a bit surprising out of 88 submissions that no one got more than two out of the 10 players correct. That's either a credit to Reggie McKenzie's unique draft board, our overall...

James Jones' release needs an explanation

The Oakland front office began shedding some veteran players just hours after the draft, and while some make sense, the release of James Jones is confusing. In terms of pure talent, the Oakland Raiders' roster is improving, but it remains far from "elite" — which is one of many reasons why the release of James Jones is confusing. In 2014, James Jones was Oakland's best receiver — leading the team in targets (111), catches (73) and receiving touchdowns (6). In fact, Jones' contributions went beyond just the numbers — if Oakland needed a big play in a big spot, you could be sure that...

Raiders 2015 Draft Grade

The 2015 NFL draft is behind us, so it's time to dole out some grades. To be honest, I am not a big fan of post-draft grades. Most of those grades are done by draft gurus who judge picks by their preconceived idea of how much success they think the player will have and where they personally had them ranked in the draft. That kind of grading is useless because as we all know the most ‘can't miss' picks often DO miss, sometimes epically. And it ends up bringing on the inevitable ‘re-grades' down the road. In my humble opinion, the only way to properly grade a draft is based upon strategy....

Miles Burris says he's been cut by Raiders

With the new draft additions as well as the undrafted free agent signings, the Raiders are cleaning some house. Sunday night James Jones was released and now Miles Burris has said his farewell from the team as well. He posted this on his Instagram account Monday morning. Nothing but respect and love for the Oakland Raiders. Grateful for the opportunity they gave me. Grew up coming to Raider games as a kid and got to live my dream of playing in the same stadium for the team closest to my hometown. I'm thankful to everyone in the organization and all my teammates. Former Packers wideout James Jones released by Raiders, per report

Jones' tenure in Oakland lasted just one season. For the second time this offseason, a wide receiver once employed by the Green Bay Packers is searching for a new team. According to Scott Bair of CSN Bay Area, the Oakland Raiders have released James Jones. 2014 was Jones' first season with the Raiders after a seven-year stint in Green Bay. The veteran wideout led Oakland with 73 catches and six touchdowns. He finished second on the team in receiving yards with 666. Jones was far more prolific as a member of the Packers. His best season came in 2012 when injuries to Jordy Nelson and Greg...

Report: Raiders release veteran wide receiver James Jones after one season

A day after the 2015 NFL Draft in which the Raiders made wide receiver Amari Cooper their top pick at fourth overall, they have informed veteran wide receiver James Jones he was to be released according to a report by Fallon Smith of CSN Bay Area. BREAKING: San Jose native James Jones told me GM Reggie McKenzie has informed him the #Raiders are going to release him. #Raiders — Fallon Smith (@FallonSmithCSN) May 4, 2015 This move comes as quite a surprise considering Jones played a significant role in the Raiders offense last season after the team signed the former long time Packers...

Raiders rookie linebacker Ben Heeney ready to earn his way in the NFL

In the 5th round of the 2015 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders gave Kansas MLB Ben Heeney the surprise of his life, they drafted him to be a part of the Silver and Black. Ben Heeney never once thought he would be an Oakland Raider growing up, because he grew up a fan of his home state team the rival Kansas City Chiefs. That hasn't dampened his sprits though, he is happy to be a Raider. "Not even, man. That caught me so off guard." Heeney said about being drafted by the Raiders, "I had no idea, but I couldn’t be happier. So happy. No one has really been in contact with me from the Raiders, so...

Raiders 4th rounder Jon Feliciano has opportunity to start at right guard

There has been a shakeup on the Raiders offensive line this offseason. The biggest signing this offseason was the addition of center Rodney Hudson. Combine that with the strong play from Donald Penn at left tackle and Gabe Jackson at left guard, and three of the five offensive linemen are set. The Raiders also have decided to move 2014 top free agent addition Austin Howard from right guard to right tackle. This meant the major position which needed addressing was right guard. And after addressing wide receiver, defensive end, and tight end with their first three picks, the Raiders grabbed...

AFC West Roundup: How the Broncos' rivals fared on Day 3 of the draft

From most assessments, the Broncos' AFCW rivals had a pretty good draft - which is both surprising and a little depressing. Oakland Raiders: 128th Pick: Jon Feliciano (OG)- Miami With their first pick of day three, the Raiders opted for help on the offensive line, drafting a guard from Miami. Feliciano's immediate outlook is nothing more than as depth, but he may turn into an NFL starter down the road. He'll reportedly be part of the Raiders' competition for the right guard position, and he'll have the fact that he's played all five offensive line positions in college working for him. This...

Raiders new tight end Clive Walford touted as "complete package... dual threat"

I was pretty high on Clive Walford coming into this draft. I wasn't alone in that opinion from draft gurus and come the early third round, the Raiders made him their choice which sent the message they were pretty impressed with him as well. Immediately following his drafting by the Raiders, Walford gave a description of himself that basically said he could do it all. "I can high-point the ball. I'm a great pass catcher, I'm a great run blocker. I'm just a dual threat tight end." Said Walford. He even went on to say he modeled his game after Rob Gronkowski. That comparison was brought up to...
