Raiders big part of trade deadline conversation

The rumors are flying as the NFL trade deadline approaches and the Raiders have come up in multiple different scenarios. Let’s get professional: Midway through the season, it’s time to assess and adjust. To be GMC Professional Grade, you must be calculated in your approach. What adjustments are needed to make sure you are fighting for a playoff spot? Yes, yes, "Playoffs? Playoffs?!?" There is really not chance the Raiders will be fighting for a playoff spot this season. So, what we have to start thinking about at this point is how the Raiders can set themselves up to compete for a...

DJ Hayden "good to go" off PUP, game time decision vs Browns

Last week was the first week Raiders second year cornerback, D.J. Hayden was eligible to come off the Physically Unable to Perform list. He returned to practice during the week but was not activated for the game. Now he's been through his second week of practice which head coach Tony Sparano said Hayden's workload increased. But his status for the game in Cleveland Sunday is still unclear. "We'll see," Sparano said of Hayden's playing status. "We're going to go back in there, we're going to talk about it and see how he does here when we get down there and see where he is." "He's coming...

LaMarr Woodley, Usama Young confirmed out for the year

Earlier this week, Raiders head coach Tony Sparano suggested the injuries to Usama Young and LaMarr Woodley could be serious. Friday he confirmed both will be lost for the remainder of the season. Both Woodley and Young suffered their injuries against the Cardinals last Sunday. Young left the game and was carted off the field with what was later determined to be and ACL/MCL tear. Woodley left in the third quarter with a tear in his right biceps. The Raiders will be making the roster moves tonight or tomorrow with the team sending these two to injured reserve and calling up players from the...

Five Good Questions with Dawgs by Nature

Five Good Questions with Dawgs by Nature

For this week's Five Good Questions I spoke with Chris Pokorny from SB Nation Browns site, Dawgs By Nature. Here is the transcript of that conversation. 1. What happened to the Browns last week? How do they go from a team who had the biggest road comeback in NFL history to looking utterly incompetent to give the Jaguars their first win of the season? It's a two-part problem, and you may have inadvertently referenced one of the problems: the Browns' road issues. In order to achieve the biggest road comeback in NFL history, that means that at one point in the game, you were getting beat...

The map below lists the games that will air on CBS during the 4:25 PM ET time slot (coming from 506sports). Because the Browns are playing their only afternoon game of the season, that means the majority of Ohio, including the Cleveland, Toledo, Columbus, and Dayton areas, will get the Raiders vs. Browns game. RaiderDamus' Friday Foretelling: Raiders vs. Browns

What does the Great Beyond have to say about the upcoming game in Cleveland? Greetings, Raider fans! It is I, RaiderDamus, who nearly fought the Dragon of Angnor, who nearly stood up to the vicious Chicken of Bristol, and who personally wet myself at the Battle of Badon Hill. I come to you today having accurately predicted the Raiders' loss to Arizona, although I predicted a ten-point loss when, in fact, Oakland lost by eleven. So I'm not perfect. However, this is another week and I've once again consulted the Great Beyond to reveal to myself and all of us just what will transpire on Sunday...

Raiders vs Browns fantasy start, sit, sleepers

Raiders vs Browns fantasy start, sit, sleepers

Start Ben Tate With exception to Khalil Mack and Sio Moore, the Raiders run defense has been atrocious. They have given up the third most points to opposing runningbacks. Tate has played well since returning from an injury that kept him on the sideline multiple weeks. He has scored 13, 19, and 4 points since returning. Even with Alex Mack out for the season, the Browns still have one of the best offensive lines in the NFL so expect Tate to have a big game. Andrew Hawkins The Raiders secondary was already bad to start the season. Now they are in big trouble with Tyvon Branch and Usama...

Thursday Night Football features AFC rivals Chargers vs Broncos

Chat with Raiders fans while two of the AFC West rivals face off on Thursday Night Football. It's mayhem at Mile High with AFC West rival San Diego Chargers taking on the Broncos. I don't expect any Raiders fans to root for either of these teams but if you want to find chinks in the armor, you gotta watch. The Broncos put it on the 49ers on Sunday night football last week in what was an absolute laugher. The Chiefs took out the Chargers in San Diego last week so I fully expect them to get pummeled in Denver. Here is what the two SB Nation team blogs are saying: The facepalm toolbags over at...

Carlos Rogers returns, Austin Howard upgraded on Raiders, Browns injury report

Not a lot changed on the injury front for the Raiders today. But among those things that did change, were good news. Carlos Rogers was held out of practice on Wednesday with a hurt knee and he returned to practice yesterday just as Tony Sparano said he would. Austin Howard was limited in practice Wednesday with a neck injury and he was upgraded to practicing full. The Browns got good news too, with K'Waun Williams practicing full from a concussion and Billy Winn returning to practice from his injured quad. Here are the complete Thursday injury reports: Oakland Raiders Practice...

NFL week 8 game picks: Winnable game in Cleveland?

Week 8 begins tonight so it's time for our S&BP staff game picks. It was another good week for the staff picks with all winning records, and the lowest totals at 9-6. We were also 7-3 in consensus picks. The rankings remained unchanged this week as yet again, Tyler and myself tied at 10-5 to remain tied for the top spot. But, the best record last week went to Marcus with an 11-4 mark. He did it primarily by being the only one to pick the Chiefs over the Chargers in San Diego. Then again, he was also the only one to pick the Panthers over the Packers (for shame, Marcus) and his week best...

Tony Sparano, Mike Pettine have history, refer to each other as "hot-blooded Italians"

Raiders head coach Tony Sparano and Browns head coach Mike Pettine know each other pretty well. They coached together with the New York Jets in 2012 - Sparano as offensive coordinator, Pettine as defensive coordinator - under head coach Rex Ryan. Now two seasons later the two meet as head coaches on opposing sidelines. "We're both hot-blooded Italians with similar philosophies," Tony Sparano said of Pettine. "Mike's come from a football family. I have kids that are coaching right now. My entire family is a football family. It's really similar situations. Both of us kind of get after it a...

A Look at the Raiders

A Look at the Raiders

Don't look now Cleveland, but no team in NFL history has ever lost back to back games to winless teams in week 7 or later. The Oakland Raiders will arrive in Cleveland this weekend with a 0 - 6 record and an offense that has scored more than 14 points only once this season. This will also be the second week in a row the Browns defense will face a rookie QB, albeit the best rookie QB of the bunch so far this year. Even with a defensive front line that is dealing with injuries, the Browns should be able to contain the Raiders offense which ranks dead last in the NFL in points (92); yards per...

Benson Mayowa set to start in place of injured LaMarr Woodley

Benson Mayowa set to start in place of injured LaMarr Woodley

With LaMarr Woodley appearing to be done for the season with an injured biceps, the Raiders will have to look elsewhere for a starter at defensive end. That elsewhere is Benson Mayowa. Mayowa came in to replace Woodley last Sunday when he left in the third quarter with his biceps injury. He played most of the remainder of the game and actually ended up playing more snaps than Woodley. (34/28). In that time, he had 1 solo tackle for loss and a pass defended. "I thought Benson did a good job in the ball game Sunday," said Tony Sparano. "To be honest with you, he played a bunch more plays...

Three Raiders players may have suffered serious injuries against Cardinals

If it wasn't already insulting enough to be 0-6, the Raiders are adding injuries on top of it. It's sounding very much like they may have come out of their home loss to the Cardinals last Sunday with three serious injuries. Usama Young was carted off the field with what was later reported as an ACL/MCL tear which would have him out for the season. Following the game, Tony Sparano said the injury to Young "probably wasn't great." Those are the exact words he used to describe the foot injury to tight end David Ausberry today. LaMarr Woodley left the game in the third quarter with a biceps...

LaMarr Woodley, Carlos Rogers miss practice, Vincent Brown returns

The Raiders were back to work today for their first week of practice preparing for their match-up with the Browns in Cleveland Sunday. But two players didn't return to practice with them according to media present at practice -- Lamarr Woodley and Carlos Rogers. Woodley left Sunday's game against the Cardinals in the third quarter with an undisclosed injury. It appeared to be his right arm but the specific injury has not been revealed yet. Carlos Rogers was seen doing light work but not practicing with his teammates. His situation is also not yet known. Returning to practice for the first...
