Gruden denies disconnect with McKenzie, split scouting personnel

The moment Jon Gruden signed a 10-year, $100 million contract to be the Raiders head coach, you knew who was running the show in Oakland. Reggie McKenzie knew he would have to try and roll with the punches if he stayed on as General Manager. And at every turn, he said the right things with regard to he and Gruden working together on personnel decisions. Even while the reports piled up that seemed to confirm initial assumptions that this marriage was not quite as smooth as he let on. As to the potential disconnect, Gruden denied it in his press conference following McKenzie’s firing. Sort...

Raiders week 13 report card vs Steelers: Trio of tight ends lead the offense

There have been noticeable signs of improvement from the Raiders in recent weeks, Sunday’s week 13 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers was the culmination of that progress. This game had a feel that Raiders fans haven’t felt in long time, it had the feel from the 2016 season. One of the trademarks of the 12-4, 2016 season was Derek Carr leading the team to heroic come from behind victories. And again today, Derek Carr put the team on his shoulders and led the Raiders to a 24-21 win. Let’s take a look at the Raiders week 13 report card. Aerial Attack: A The passing game was on point...

RB Doug Martin a go, C.J. Anderson inactive vs. Steelers

Running back and Vallejo native C.J. Anderson will not make his Raiders debut today after all. Anderson, the former Broncos and Panthers back who went to Cal, was signed by the Raiders last week as insurance with Doug Martin dealing with a knee injury. Martin had a brace on his left knee Friday but practiced all week and is active for today’s game against the Steelers. Martin will be without one of his primary blocker’s, however, as Pro Bowl left guard Kelechi Osemele is inactive due to a toe injury. Osemele did not practice Friday after being limited the previous two days. Jon Feliciano...
Did Ed Oliver just ensure he won’t be drafted by the Raiders?

Did Ed Oliver just ensure he won’t be drafted by the Raiders?

Among the top draft prospects out there is Houston defensive lineman, Ed Oliver. The Raiders need help on the defensive line and Oliver figures to go very high in the 2019 draft. Though he may have done something today to ensure the Raiders aren’t the team that selects him. Oliver signed with agent Joel Segal. This according to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller. Ed Oliver has signed with Joel Segal for representation, per sources.— Matt Miller (@nfldraftscout) December 7, 2018 Why does this matter? Well, because rumor has it the Raiders were not happy with Segal for refusing their...
Chris Boswell has no answers on, and off, the field for poor performances

Chris Boswell has no answers on, and off, the field for poor performances

Chris Boswell was the recipient of a brand new contract before the 2018 season, and this year has been memorable for all the wrong reason. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Oakland Raiders participated in one of the uglier NFL contests of the season, but nothing was uglier than Chris Boswell’s performance. Boswell finished the game 3/3 on extra points, although one bounced in off the right upright, and 0/2 on field goals. If missing two kicks on the day wasn’t bad enough, the team lost by three points, and with a chance to send the team to overtime Boswell slipped and had his kick blocked to...

Reggie McKenzie’s firing brings comments on Khalil Mack trade

Reggie McKenzie’s firing brings comments on Khalil Mack trade

There are plenty of what ifs. The Oakland Raiders fired Reggie McKenzie on Monday, and any firing is going to bring rumblings about causes. This firing is primarily about Jon Gruden asserting control of the organization, but we still get different specifics brought up to justify the decision. The Athletic reporter Vic Tafur opened up with some of what his sources believe led to the firing beyond just “Jon Gruden.” There are various issues, but one of note for 49ers fans is the Khalil Mack trade. 49ers general manager John Lynch has said he thinks the 49ers offered a better deal than...

Praise for Jerry Jones as Amari Cooper trade boosts Dallas

Dallas’ Jerry Jones is getting praised for a football move. There might not be a better way to explain the impact of the oft-criticized owner and general manager’s bold trade, sending a 2019 first-round pick to the Raiders for receiver Amari Cooper with the Cowboys at 3-5. Cooper leads the NFL in yards receiving since joining the Cowboys, who have won five straight games to get to the brink of the NFC East title. With Cooper, Dak Prescott looks more like the 2016 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year rather than a struggling quarterback. Running back Ezekiel Elliott is finding more operating...
