Will improved mechanics really improve Colin Kaepernick?

Many are involved with Colin Kaepernick’s throwing motion. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/)Former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Kurt Warner recently weighed in on his sessions with 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. “We tried to engage his lower half,” Warner told the Boston Globe. “As a quarterback, when you can throw with your body, you don’t have to throw it 100 m.p.h. with your arm, and that’s where the touch develops.” Solid base leads to repeatable throws, which leads to greater accuracy. Makes sense. Of course Warner is not sure Kaepernick can correct the issue within the eight...

Kurt Warner talks Colin Kaepernick and flag football

Kurt Warner spent one day a week for ten weeks working with San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. We've got some more comments from Warner about the work. Over the weekend, I came across a brief mention about Kurt Warner's work with Colin Kaepernick. Warner talked a bit about engaging...

NFL free agency rumors: Hakeem Nicks to visit San Francisco 49ers, per report

The San Francisco 49ers are continuing their look at veteran wide receivers. According to one report, Hakeem Nicks will be coming to town. The San Francisco 49ers are still kicking the tires on some free agents, looking to boost depth on both sides of the ball. After a weekend of inside linebackers news, we have some wide receiver news. ESPN's Josina Anderson is reporting Hakeem Nicks told her he is traveling to California to meet with the 49ers. Nicks spent last season with the Indianapolis Colts, finishing with 38 receptions for 405 yards and four touchdowns. Prior to that, Nicks spent...

Giants without Pagan all hope, no plan

This is my Sunday column on Angel Pagan. WARNING — this is a baseball column. 49ers fans, feel free to skip this. The Giants need a backup plan to back up their backup plan. Angel Pagan was supposed to replace Hunter Pence in the middle of the Giants’ batting order when Pence broke his arm. […]

Which player(s) in the draft could take the 49ers to the playoffs next season?

Jayson Braddock–the man who reported Colin Kaepernick is on the trading block–believes Amari Cooper, Danny Shelton, Randy Gregory or Kevin Johnson could take the Niners to the playoffs. I disagree with Braddock. If the Niners are going to return the to the playoffs, they need to fix their offensive line, which gave up more sacks than […]

Nice price: Bush’s deal with 49ers relatively modest

He’s a 30-year-old running back coming off an injury plagued season that featured his lowest yards-per-carry average since 2008: No wonder the one-year contract Reggie Bush signed with the 49ers is relatively modest.

49ers LB Chase Thomas has torn ACL

Niners outside linebacker Chase Thomas isn’t retiring, but he is rehabbing. Thomas, 25, tore the ACL in his right knee during a workout at Stanford during the offseason. He was sporting a knee brace and walking with a limp today at Stanford’s pro day. The news, of course, comes on the heels of the retirement of two of the 49ers’ higher-profile linebackers: Patrick Willis and Chris Borland. Thomas, who entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent from Stanford in 2013, made his NFL debut with the 49ers in November. He only played on special team in five games and had two tackles. The other...

Agent: Multiple teams have inquired about ex-49ers DT Ray McDonald

It appears former 49ers defensive tackle Ray McDonald will continue his NFL career, but likely not until his latest legal issue has been resolved. McDonald, 30, who was released by the 49ers in December, has received interest from multiple teams, according to his agent, Tom Condon. The 49ers are not expected to re-sign McDonald. “As you know, he’s a very good football player,” Condon said today at Stanford’s pro day. “There certainly are teams that are inquiring about him.” McDonald has been under investigation since a woman told police on Dec. 16 she was “possibly sexually...

Chris Borland -responses to your responses

ESPNWith 49er linebacker Chris Borland’s retirement, many of our posters had intriguing angles. The response to his retirement was overwhelmingly positive, and those who posted negative comments drew harsh responses from other posters. Here are some highlights from what some of you had to say about Borland: WhytheChange: “It’s not an NFL issue. It is a football issue.” So true. Where the battle is really being fought on head injuries is at the youth, prep and college levels. One of the leading researchers on sports-related brain trauma is Dr. Robert Cantu, and he has stated that...
