Morris says cuts will be difficult; team may keep as many as six WRs

Bucs Beat | St. Petersburg Times — Raheem Morris said the Bucs will face some tough decisions in order to cut their roster from 75 to 53 players by Saturday's deadline. In fact, the team may decide to keep as many as six receivers and he expects a few more to find work with other NFL teams. "Today is the tough day and we've got to make decisions here in a bit,'' Morris said. "But it's a positive thing that the cuts and the roster moves will be difficult. That means we're getting better, we're going in the right direction. There will be some guys off this 75-man roster that will ...

Freeman getting used to playing with injury

Bucs Beat | St. Petersburg Times — Josh Freeman conducted a very successful test of his broken right (throwing) thumb last night, leaving the Bucs encouraged that he'll be fine when the season opens next Sunday. But his injury will cause him to modify some things. According to coach Raheem Morris, Freeman has been testing different methods of gripping the ball and will probably wear a glove on his throwing hand against Cleveland. "I told you he tossed it back and forth in practice and you saw him grip the ball and kind of get a feel for how it feels and how it’s comfortable and what he wants to do," Morri...

Bucs finish a bend but don’t break preseason

Bucs Report | Tampa Tribune — By IRA KAUFMAN TAMPA—If the preseason is any indication, yards will be a lot easier to come by against the Buccaneers than points. While fashioning a 2-2 exhibition slate, Tampa Bay yielded 80 first downs and the Bucs were outgained by 306 yards as opponents averaged 19 more snaps per…

Corey Lynch makes huge impression, but Bucs still face a decision

Bucs Beat | St. Petersburg Times — Safety Corey Lynch put one huge exclamation point on his preseason tonight, grabbing two interceptions and returning one for 91-yard touchdown. Lynch has previously made his name on special teams, where he has shown a proficiency for blocking kicks. But he showed excellent instincts in the secondary tonight that will make the Bucs stop and think. Asked tonight whether Lynch played his way onto the final roster, coach Raheem Morris stopped short of a guarantee. "It was a great game for evaluation," Morris said. "I never want to tell you that soembody’s made t...

Sitting on the bubble, Preston Parker makes one last push

Bucs Beat | St. Petersburg Times — Receiver Preston Parker made his final push to make the final roster tonight, and all he can do is hope it was enough. Though he probably doesn't make the team based on his contributions as a receiver, Parker did catch two passes for 45 yards against the Texans tonight, including a 29-yard reception. But Parker is a big contributor on special teams. Thursday, he had two kick returns for 46 yards, a 23-yard average. "Whatever opportunity they give you, you have to take advantage of it and practice how you play," Parker said. "I've played special teams all my life. So...
