Buccaneers sign DE Lawrence Sidbury, release CB Crezdon Butler

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed defensive end Lawrence Sidbury, a 2009 fourth-round pick for the Atlanta Falcons who managed five sacks in 48 games as a defensive end. Sidbury signed with the Indianpolis Colts last year, but spent the season on injured reserve. Sidbury should help the Bucs compensate for the loss of Gerald McCoy. The Bucs will be forced to play some defensive ends like Da'Quan Bowers and William Gholston at defensive tackle, especially on passing downs, which means Sidbury could be used to fill in for them at defensive end. Butler managed some limited playing time...

Packers at Buccaneers: Five things to watch

1. Longtime losers: The Tampa Bay Buccaneers entered the NFL in 1976. They lost their first 26 games and have struggled for the majority of their four decades in the league. Tampa Bay's all-time record is 235-374-1 (.386) and it is guaranteed to finish last in the NFC South for a fourth straight season. The Buccaneers had a run of success from 1997-2007, when they made the playoffs seven times and won a Super Bowl in 2002. But Tampa Bay is back among the NFL dregs, going 6-24 in the last two seasons (.200) and in the hunt for the No. 1 pick in next year's draft.
