Blackhawks T25U25: DeBrincat moves to No. 1

Blackhawks T25U25: DeBrincat moves to No. 1

Henri Jokiharju, Adam Boqvist, Collin Delia and Dylan Strome round out the top five. There’s a No. 1 in the Second City Hockey Top 25 Under 25 Blackhawks player rankings as winger Alex DeBrincat moves up one spot. Even if Nick Schmaltz, who was the No. 1 last August, was still with the Blackhawks, DeBrincat would have taken the top spot. Defensemen Henri Jokiharju and Adam Boqvist also moved up one spot. Goaltender Collin Delia jumps up seven spots, while Dylan Strome enters the fray at No. 5. Strome also was No. 5 in SB Nation’s Five For Howling’s Coyotes T25U25 list prior to the...

The revitalized Blackhawks power play is a joy to watch. Can Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat keep it going?

Pay no attention to the first 35 games of the season. What you saw was a mirage, an aberration, nothing resembling what the Blackhawks power play is capable of on a nightly basis. Keep your attention focused on the final 35 games of the season and what you see may amaze and dazzle you, unless of...

Year 2, Game 48: Golden Knights rally for 4-3 overtime win against Blackhawks

Year 2, Game 48: Golden Knights rally for 4-3 overtime win against Blackhawks

Vegas has still never lost to Chicago, and really it should have. Shea Theodore scored at 1:19 in overtime, and the Vegas Golden Knights rallied from two goals down to defeat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 in overtime at United Center on Saturday. Vegas trailed 3-1 in at 7:22 of the second period when Alex DeBrincat scored his second goal of the game. Ryan Carpenter answered with 54 seconds remaining in the period to cut the score to 3-2. Pierre-Edouard Bellemare’s potential game-tying goal in the third period was called back after the puck was kicked into the net. But Paul Stastny did, in...

3 up, 3 down from Blackhawks’ 4-3 overtime loss to Predators

3 up, 3 down from Blackhawks’ 4-3 overtime loss to Predators

Who is trending up and down? Filip Forsberg scored twice, including a minute into overtime to hand the Blackhawks a 4-3 loss Wednesday night at the United Center. Trending up Top line change Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton came to his senses and put Alex DeBrincat on the top line with Jonathan Toews and Dominik Kahun instead of having him on the third line. And the result? A power-play goal and a team-high seven shots on goal in 17:01 of ice time. Prior to Wednesday’s game, DeBrincat averaged the eighth most 5-on-5 TOI among forwards while playing on the third line. More ice time...

Alex DeBrincat returns to the top line, but the Blackhawks fall to the Predators 4-3 in OT

The Blackhawks have struggled to put together more than two strong lines for most of the season, which is why coach Jeremy Colliton found a home for Alex DeBrincat on the third line several weeks ago. It appears to have been a good idea, with DeBrincat scoring six goals in that new role. But that...

Filip Forsberg scored twice and the Preds win their third straight contest. If you tuned into the game a little late, you didn’t miss much. Pekka Rinne was a monster in net when it mattered most. Colton Sissons opened the scoring for the Predators at 6:49 of the first. Sissons was able to pick up a puck right in front of Chicago netminder Collin Delia and ripped it over Delia’s shoulder. Kevin Fiala and Mattias Ekholm assisted on the goal. Dan Hamhuis took Nashville’s first trip to the penalty box with a little less than 3 minutes remaining in the first period. Jonathan Toews is in the “Last Men In” fan vote, and Alex DeBrincat could step in as an injury...

Blackhawks rally for 10th straight series win over Penguins

Chris Kunitz scores in his return to Pittsburgh. In an evening that left most Chicago sports fans heartbroken, the Blackhawks provided a silver lining Sunday at PPG Paints Arena with a 5-3 win over the Penguins. It was the Blackhawks’ 10th consecutive win against the Penguins. It didn’t start off great, with Pittsburgh scoring twice within the first five minutes on goals from Patric Hornqvist and Jake Guentzel. Alex DeBrincat responded late in the first period to cut the Penguins lead to 2-1. Chris Kunitz scored his first goal as a Blackhawk and his first since April 3, 2018. The...

Number Munchers: Analyzing Expected Goals for the Blackhawks

Number Munchers: Analyzing Expected Goals for the Blackhawks

Chicago is scoring more than expected, right on pace with calculations and less than what the data predicts. One of the major issues surrounding the Blackhawks this season is their lack of scoring depth. Besides Patrick Kane (0.54 goals per game), Alex DeBrincat (0.43) and Jonathan Toews (0.38) there are no other Hawks skaters averaging more than 0.30 goals per game this season. Consequently, the team will continue to have a tough time moving their goal differential up from the basement of the NHL. As of Friday, the Hawks have a minus-33 goal differential, which ranks 30th in the league....

Chicago Blackhawks: Does Alex DeBrincat Still Work on the Third Line?

Chicago Blackhawks forward Alex DeBrincat has been a key piece for the Hawks this season.
