Devils’ deal with center Andrei Loktionov “imminent”; Assistant coach search to begin soon

Fire & Ice | Bergen Record — Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello said this afternoon that center Andrei Loktionkov has not re-signed with the team yet, but a deal is “imminent” and he will be back with the team next season. Loktionov, who turned 23 on May 30, is eligible to become a restricted free agent on July 5. A report out of Russia earlier this week said he was close to signing a one-year contract to remain with the Devils. “He will be coming back,” Lamoriello said. “He will not be going to Russia.” Loktionov had eight goals and four assists in 28 NHL games with the Devils after being acquired from the Los Ange...

Mark Fayne will sit out to make room for Volchenkov in the lineup. Center Andrei Loktionov will also return to the Devils’ lineup after being a healthy scratch the last two games. Jacob Josefson will sit in his place. “We’re playing three games in four nights, considering the opponent and how I think this game is going to be played we put in a lineup in that we think will give us the best c...

Kovalchuk practicing, but one of extra forwards for Devils today; Brodeur leaves practice early

Fire & Ice | Bergen Record — Devils right wing Ilya Kovalchuk is practicing with the team, but appears to be one of the extra forwards on the fifth line with Andrei Loktionov, Krys Barch and Tom Kostopoulos. Kovalchuk has missed the last 11 games with a right shoulder injury he sustained in a 2-1 victory over Florida on March 23.  That he is one of the extra forwards today would seem to indicate that there are no plans for him to play in Saturday afternoon’s game against Florida. The other line combinations remain the same as in Thursday’s 3-0 win in Philadelphia, which snapped the Devils’ 10-game losing streak. Devils...

Loktionov: “I kind of slowed down the last five games”

Fire & Ice | Bergen Record — Devils center Andrei Loktionov confirmed that he will be a healthy scratch for tonight’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center. It will be the first time Loktionov will be a healthy scratch since he was called up from Albany on Feb. 17 after he was acquired in a Feb. 6 trade with Los Angeles. He also missed two games with a left shoulder injury. “It’s coach’s decision,” Loktionov said. “We have to change something in the offensive zone because we didn’t win the game. We have to do something because it’s can’t be 11 games in a row. If it works, it’s nice. If not, we’ll se...

“Good chance” Josefson will play tonight vs. Flyers; Looks like Loktionov will sit out

Fire & Ice | Bergen Record — The Devils are holding an optional morning skate today at Wells Fargo Center in preparation for tonight’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Devils coach Pete DeBoer did not reveal his full lineup, but said there is a “good chance” center Jacob Josefson will play tonight after being a healthy scratch the last three games. DeBoer wouldn’t say it definitively, but it looks like Andrei Loktionov will sit out in his place. DeBoer said “it could be a possibility” that Loktionov, who has no points in the last seven games, will sit out. “I think when you get a new player, new team, new situat...

Sullivan skating on line with Elias and Loktionov at Devils’ morning skate

Fire & Ice | Bergen Record — Forward Steve Sullivan is participating in the Devils’ morning skate at Prudential Center in preparation for tonight’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. It’s Sullivan’s first time on the ice with the full team since being acquired in Wednesday’s trade with Phoenix. He skated with a group of six players Friday. As I guessed Friday, Sullivan is skating at right wing on the line with Patrik Elias and Andrei Loktionov. Steve Bernier, who played with Elias and Loktionov Thursday in Boston, is back on the fourth line with Ryan Carter and Stephen Gionta. Sullivan also worked on the first power...

Kovalchuk rehabbing shoulder, but return timeline still vague; Fayne “surprised” to run into Stevens

Fire & Ice | Bergen Record — The NHL trade deadline passed at 3 p.m. and the only deal the Devils made today was to bring back forward Steve Sullivan from Phoenix for a 2014 seventh-round draft pick. Lamoriello also made trades earlier this season for Andrei Loktionov, Alexei Ponikarovksy and Matt D’Agostini, now the team is pretty much set as they head into their final 12 regular season games, beginning with Thursday’s game in Boston, clinging into a playoff spot. There is still one significant piece missing with right wing Ilya Kovalchuk sidelined with a right shoulder injury he sustained March 23 against Florida. The...
