Newsday For the second consecutive game Saturday, Rangers coach John Tortorella chose to bench Brad Richards and Arron Asham, and deploy Derek Dorsett, Kris Newbury and Micheal Haley, known more for their energy and chippy play than offensive ability.
New York Rangers May 25, 2013Rangers Rants | Bergen Record The Rangers will try to keep their season alive not with Brad Richards and Arron Asham in the lineup, but with Micheal Haley and Kris Newbury. Not with an injured Anton Stralman on defense, but aging veteran Roman Hamrlik, who has not played since April 1. Hamrlik for Stralman aside - Hamrlik, to me, is a better choice than Matt Gilroy here with Marc Staal unavailable - I don’t see how this is a better lineup even given Richards’ struggles. But maybe it’s not about the best lineup. Maybe it’s about a wake-up jolt to a Rangers’ team in danger of being on summer vacation in a few hours. One o...

April 27, 2013The Blueshirts Blog | New York Daily News WINNIPEG – So I’m sorry for the delay in posting Wednesday’s practice blog, but cabs in Winnipeg are scarcer than the sun in these frigid parts of Canada, and it took a while to get from A. to B. The Rangers had a surprisingly energetic practice despite John Tortorella’s postgame rant ...

New York Islanders March 6, 2013Rangers Report | Journal News Via Twitter from our friends North of the Border: Both Michael Del Zotto and Arron Asham left the ice early after participating in the non-optional morning skate at Bell Centre, and Marc Staal was not on the ice at all, back at the hotel with the flu, though not ruled out of tonight’s game. New York Rangers February 23, 2013Rangers Rants | Bergen Record No word on tonight’s lineup, though it will be Henrik Lundqvist (7-6-0, 2.32 GAA) vs. Craig Anderson (8-4-2, 1.57 GAA, .950 save percentage) in nets in a matchup of last season’s Vezina Trophy winner and an early candidate for this season’s award for top goalie. All Rangers (save for Rick Nash, who’s not in Ottawa, and Darroll Powe, on the IR with a concussion) were on the ice this morning. That included Arron Asham, who missed yesterday’s practice as a maintenance day in a rapidly-becoming-overused phrase that might soon just substitute for “injured.” As for any Nash update today, it was as...

Blueshirt Banter As many people who have expected, the New York Rangers announced today that Darroll Powe had suffered a concussion in his collision with Matt Hendricks. Powe was knocked unconscious on the ice for about a minute, before regaining consciousness and skating off with help from Arron Asham and Derek Stepan. It was a scary scene to watch, and it was only a matter of time before we heard the bad news. The Rangers have placed Powe on the injury reserve list for the time being. As a result of Powe missing some time, the Rangers have recalled Brandon Mashinter from the Connecticut Whale of the ...
New York Rangers February 18, 2013Hockey Blog | ESPN New York WILMINGTON, Mass. -- Bruins center Patrice Bergeron is likely to return to the lineup Wednesday night against the Sabres at TD Garden, with coach Claude Julien saying it was “highly probable” Bergeron would play. When he does return, Bergeron obviously will give a lift to the Bruins both offensively and defensively as the 2012 Selke Trophy winner’s two-way play has been sorely missed since he suffered a concussion on April 2 and missed the last six games.
