Game 5 Preview: Ottawa Senators @ Edmonton Oilers

A possible road trip sweep? The Ottawa Senators will complete their west coast road trip this evening visiting the Edmonton Oilers. Ottawa’s coming in on a two-game winning streak, while the Oilers have lost their last two to the to the Jets and Canucks. There was no morning skate today, as the Senators were just coming off their 6-0 win from last night. Mike Condon will make his season debut, giving Craig Anderson a break after the first four games. Christian Jaros was also sent back to the AHL this morning, so it appears either Johnny Oduya or Ben Harpur is close to returning (more...

Game 3 Preview: Ottawa Senators @ Vancouver Canucks

The Sens begin their roadtrip against the Sedins and co. It looks like the Senators’ improved defensive depth — the talking point of the offseason — will be tested just two games into the season. With recent call-up Ben Harpur joining Erik Karlsson on the IR with a shoulder injury and Johnny Oduya still day-to-day, the team recalled prospects Thomas Chabot and Christian Jaros for this week’s road trip. Here’s how the team lined up yesterday during their morning skate: Update - Marc Brassard is reporting that Borowiecki has lined up with Ceci, leaving Claesson with Chabot. If...

With Erik Karlsson and Johnny Oduya both listed as day-to-day, Ottawa called up Ben Harpur, who missed Belleville’s season opener yesterday. Here’s how they lined up at this morning’s skate: Ryan - Brassard - Stone Dzingel - Turris - Smith Hoffman - Pageau - Pyatt Formenton - Thompson - Burrows Phaneuf - Ceci Borowiecki - Wideman ...

Sterling Predictions 2017: Defencemen on the bubble

Sterling Predictions 2017: Defencemen on the bubble

Who will play the most out of Ottawa’s potential third-pairing players? Rank these left-handed defencemen from most to fewest games played this season: Mark Borowiecki, Thomas Chabot, Fredrik Claesson, Ben Harpur, Johnny Oduya. A bonus point for each for whom the staff can guess the correct number of games. Colin: Claesson (80), Chabot (68), Oduya (13), Borowiecki (12), Harpur (2). The way I see it, Phaneuf, Claesson and Oduya will start the season as the trio manning the left side. Oduya has slowed down consistently ever since he's turned 30 (he'll be turning 36 in October), and with his...

Sens Announce More Cuts

Sens Announce More Cuts

Chabot, Harpur and McCormick all headed for Belleville With the pre-season schedule over, the Senators have announced a few more cuts today. First, Thomas Chabot and Ben Harpur have been sent down to Belleville. Up front, Max McCormick is being sent to Belleville as well, but has to clear waivers first. Two interesting things here. First, McCormick going down means the team is currently carrying 11 healthy forwards under contract. This means that Logan Brown gets to stick around for at least a bit, and likely dress right away. It also means either Derick Brassard is going to be ready to...
