Edmonton Oilers winger Benoit Pouliot suddenly red-hot

There were some disbelieving howls last July when the Edmonton Oilers gave winger Benoit Pouliot a five-year, US$20-million free-agent deal, which seemed a big gulp since he was joining his sixth NHL team in eight years. Have Skates Will Travel has been Pouliot’s calling card with stops with the Minnesota Wild, the Montreal Canadiens, the Boston Bruins, the Tampa Bay Lightning, the New York Rangers and now the Oilers, and he’s never had more than 16 goals in a season, anywhere, but that may be changing.

Pouliot champing at bit to get back in action with Oilers

If Benoit Pouliot had his way, he would have dispensed with the weekly bone scans, the rehabilitation sessions, and the additional practice time required to get back into the Edmonton Oilers’ lineup. Instead, the winger is impatiently trying to get back to where he was before breaking a bone in his foot while blocking a shot from New Jersey Devils defenceman Marek Zidlicky on Nov. 21.
