Jones, Sharks top St. Louis 3-1

Jones stopped a quick wrist shot from St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko in the game’s opening minute. Matt Nieto also scored as the Sharks, 8-1-2 in their past 11 games, tied Washington for the most road wins (17) in the NHL. Donskoi banked a shot off the near post to break the scoreless tie at 3:55 of the second. Thornton scored at 7:15 to make it 2-0 and end his eight-game goal drought. San Jose had several quality chances late in the first period, but Blues goalie Brian Elliott turned away five shots during one flurry. Nieto’s goal was a product of San Jose’s aggressive...

Brian Elliott's Hot Streak Isn't A Surprise

Stop treating it like one. Brian Elliott has had to start ten games in a row, going 6-2-2 in relief of injured goalie Jake Allen. Allen, despite a shakey playoff performance, has been the de facto starter this season, and has played very well. He hasn't out-played Elliott, though. This isn't new territory for the Blues' maligned would-be starter. Brian Elliott is the only Blues goalie who has won a playoff series in over a decade, and it should easily be more than one if the team managed to provide goal support to him. His reward? The Ryan Miller Experiment and being benched for most of the...

Sharks At Blues GameDay Storystream: Elliott Continues His Hot Streak

Will Brian Elliott serve up another masterful performance tonight against the San Jose Sharks? Brian Elliott has slipped back into his traditional role of bacon saver for the Blues. The Blues have scored four goals in their last four games, and they're 2-1-1 somehow, and were very nearly 3-1-0. Elliott's improved his record to 11-6-5, and even that doesn't show how well he's been playing. His lowest save percentage in the last five games was .920, where he stopped 23 of 25 shots against the Blackhawks in the Blues' 2-0 loss on January 22nd. These are some decent stats: Last 5...

Sharks At Blues Morning Open Thread: Scoring Woes Continue

This is the Blues' first home game in a while. Will the home crowd be treated to more than a goal? Brian Elliott has slipped back into his traditional role of bacon saver for the Blues. Blues Vs. Avalanche Recap: This Is Somehow Stan's Fault.

Clock stops working...Stan wants to move team to Vegas or L.A. or you get the idea. Blues Lineup: Your forward lines tonight would look similar to what they rolled out in Detroit. Steen, Stastny, Brouwer... Fabbri, Lehtera, Tarasenko...Berglund, Backes Rattie, and Jaskin, Brozdiak, Reaves. Your D-pairings (Yes pairings, the Blues did dress six d-men tonight) Pietrangelo, Bouwmeester...Shattenkirk, Gunnarson, and Edmundson, Parayko. Your starter in goal tonight would be Brian Elliott. First period: Colorado would try and jump on the Blues early tonight, but Elliott would have nothing of it....

Blues At Avalanche Morning Open Thread: Strong Play From Elliott Continues

Brian Elliott has helped the Blues to a three game win streak. Will tonight be number four? The Blues have two games left this month before the All Star break, and they're both against opponents that aren't to be messed with. The Avalanche, after a very slow start to the year, they're 6-4-0 in their last ten games and on a two game winning streak. They're also fifth in the division and hanging on to the last wild card spot in the West. The Blues haven't been able to beat them yet this season, losing 3-1 on December 13th, and falling 4-3 in overtime on January 6th. The Blues seem to be...

Sunday Open Bar: Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting

Blues steal 2 points, Elliott steals the show and the NHL steals a once in a lifetime opportunity from one of their players, Pretty much every Blue who isn't named Brian Elliott looked like steaming crap in a game the Blues somehow won last night in spite of a record-setting-ly bad defensive effort. [STLGT] In other news, the NHL sent a pretty disgusting message about what they are willing to do to get their way.   Clearly butthurt by the fact that John Scott was voted into the All-Star game, they asked him top delcine.  A couple of times.  He declined to decline because he thought it...

Canadiens At Blues Game Preview: Blues Need To Show Elliott Support On Goalie Night

As the franchise honors past participants in Great Goalie Controversies, the least the Blues can do is give their starter some goal support. Brian Elliott, for at least until after the All Star break, is the Blues' starting goaltender. He has played well this season, but has fallen victim to some questionable defensive awareness and bare-minimum five on five goal support. Thursday night, Elliott took out a rack of sticks upon being yanked, presumably to give the Blues some "spark." It certainly had little to do with his play in net, which prevented a 4-1 loss from easily becoming a bigger...

Perhaps Blues goalie Brian Elliott was just trying to shake up the team’s sticks.

Recap Blues Vs Kings: To Live and Die in L.A.

Myriad of injuries continue to pile up but Elliott steals a win in LA The Blues were supposed to lose tonight, they played like they were supposed to lose tonight, they even had excuses pouring out during the game that had the feeling that they were going to lose tonight. Call it luck, call it West Coast Magic, call what you want but the Blues somehow pulled out a 2-1 shootout win against the Kings tonight, winning in SoCal for the first time since 2011. Forward all thank you's, donations and sacrifices to Brian Elliott, your godly savior and all around good guy. 1st Period Down Paul...
