Shrugging in Columbus: Blues drop roadie to The Jackets

Despite a solid effort from their backup goalie Brian Elliott, the Note fell flat in Columbus Tuesday night. Wakey wakey Blues fans. Get that coffee brewing and let's talk some early morning hockey. Last night the Blues took a dump in Columbus, losing 3-1 in the most uneventful game I've seen in weeks. When a player going down via injury is the biggest story, you know it was a slow night at the office for the crooked teeth boys from the Lou. According to Craig Merz's NHL.com piece, Ken Hitchcock couldn't chalk it up to anything other than a lack of energy, saying if you don't have energy,...

Game 19 Recap: Jackets Defeat Blues for Third Straight Win

Led by Brandon Saad's two goals, the Jackets were able to grind out a victory over the visiting St. Louis Blues After a successful weekend in which the Jackets earned their first victory on home ice, they looked to keep the good vibes going against the visiting St. Louis Blues last night. It was a battle between Sergei Bobrovsky and Brian Elliott in the cages, and both goaltenders were terrific. The Jackets came out flying, until the 7:36 mark when sloppy defensive zone play cost the team a goal. Ryan Murray attempted to carry the puck from behind the goal line and through the slot, where...

Blues: Going from Zero to Hero in Chicago

The unthinkable happened Wednesday night in Chicago. Only Louie thought the Blues would come back... From "Brian Elliott sucks and losers remorse" to "Roar Bacon" in two hours. Ah, the emotional roller coaster of sports strikes again! Last night, the St. Louis seemingly were all set to shit the bed for the second night in a row. Down 5-2 at the end of the first period. They were going to lose to the two teams  that have caused them the most heartache the past five seasons. The Los Angeles Kings and the Chicago Blackhawks. FUBAR incorporated! No, I don't count the Minnesota Wild in last...

Brian Elliott Injury To Be Re-Evaluated Today

The Blues' goaltender was hurt last night on an interference penalty by David Backes. Brian Elliott did not have a good evening last night. He allowed four goals, and was pulled once for a brief cooling-off period. He was eventually pulled after 17 minutes of ice time, not because of allowing a back breaking goal, but because of this ill-advised play on the part of David Backes. Backes was given a two-minute penalty for interference. It's a play that he "feel[s} pretty bad about." It's a play Brian Elliott felt pretty badly about too because he left the game and sat in the quiet room for a...

Islanders At Blues Game Preview: Elliott Has Eyes Set On Win Number Five

Brian Elliott is 4-0 on the season to start. Can he continue his push to be the Blues' number one? It's hard to argue with Brian Elliott's stats so far this young season. He's 4-0-0 with a 2.01 GAA and a .918 save percentage. Perhaps he's finally putting his foot down on this annual "goaltender controversy" thing. Or, perhaps, he's just doing his job. Ells is going to need to do some work tonight to keep doing that stellar job. Islanders captain John Tavares has a five game point streak going with no signs of stopping. Including last night's 5-3 loss to the Boston Bruins, Tavares has three...
