Every important Blackhawks trade and free agent rumor in one place

Check back here for all the latest Hawks rumors this summer. With free agency just around the corner, the NHL news cycle is going to become a frenzy as teams sort out their rosters for next season. The Blackhawks won't be as active as many other teams given how much of their roster is already set in stone, but they'll be making moves all the same to get ready for another possible Stanley Cup run. Already this offseason, we've seen the Hawks trade Andrew Shaw, Teuvo Teravainan and Bryan Bickell, so GM Stan Bowman hasn't been shy about making changes to manage under the salary cap. The team...

The draft takes place Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25 at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo. The Day After The Trade

Quotes and articles about the Bickell and Teravainen trade. There was a lot of reaction around the league after the trade yesterday which sent Bryan Bickell and Teuvo Teravainen to the Hurricanes for two draft picks. Most importantly, the two players seem happy about having a fresh start.  Teravainen was under-utilized and Bickell fought injury issues and spent much of the season in the AHL last year. Chip Alexander reached out and got a couple of quotes from Bickell. "Last year was a tough year," Bickell said. "But I feel fine. But to move and get a fresh start, to try and help a young...

Wilderness Walk: 8 Days 'til Draft (Party!)

The party and draft are creeping closer, and we're continuing to countdown the days The buyout window opens, and moves begin to be made.  Jared Cowen was the first casualty as the Toronto Maple Leafs placed him on waivers with the intent to buy him out.  Fellow buyout candidate and Wild killer Bryan Bickell dodged his buyout (at least for today) as Carolina traded their second and third round picks to Chicago for Bickell and young Teuvo Teravainen.  This is a splashy move for a team with some cap room that could still buy Bickell out while the window is open.  These moves are the tip of...

Amanda Bickell bids farewell, pledges to continue the Bickell Foundation in Chicago

The Bickells may be moving on, but not where it counts. So. Bryan Bickell's contract really did not pan out. Following an excellent Stanley Cup win that saw him score 17 points over 23 games - top six scoring among Blackhawks forwards in that championship run - he was re-signed to a four-year, $16 million deal: a deal that has played havoc on the Blackhawks' cap, ultimately forcing a bleeding of assets. It's really not a good legacy to go out on. But that doesn't mean Bickell's time in Chicago was all bad. And her own farewell message his wife, Amanda, says that while they'll miss Chicago,...

The Blackhawks trading Teuvo Teravainen to keep Andrew Shaw shows a lack of imagination

Instead of seeing what could become of Teuvo Teravainen, the Blackhawks have apparently chosen the safe familiarity of Andrew Shaw. How disappointing. The Chicago Blackhawks needed to move Bryan Bickell's $4 million cap hit. That much I can accept. He's been a major hindrance on the team's ability to build its roster for two years and once again an offseason of reckoning stared back at Chicago. Maybe they even needed to save that $4 million so badly that it meant trading Teuvo Teravainen, a 21-year-old with major talent. Hey, at least they got a couple useful picks, too. But apparently...

Morning Bag Skate: Blackhawks trying to trade Bryan Bickell

Our daily look at Blackhawks news and the happenings around the hockey world. The Blackhawks are "trying hard" to move Bryan Bickell and his contract, ESPN's Craig Custance reported Monday. Custance added that in order for the trade to occur "it might take including Teuvo Teravainen in a possible deal to get rid of that contract." The series shifts back to Pittsburgh where the Penguins can lift the Cup for the first time on home ice with a win in Game...

Blackhawks reportedly 'trying hard' to trade Bryan Bickell, but it could cost Teuvo Teravainen

Please no. Not Teuvo. The Chicago Blackhawks are "trying hard" to move the contract of forward Bryan Bickell, reports ESPN's Craig Custance. We've heard that before, of course, but there's a potentially interesting/worrisome wrinkle included from Custance: "It might take including Teuvo Teravainen in a possible deal to get rid of that contract." Yep. We've heard this rumor of using Teravainen in order to clear Bickell's salary before, but this is the latest and arguably most high profile example. Custance is pretty plugged in as a top reporter for ESPN. While we should naturally take these...
