[Final] New York Islanders 3 (EN), Philadelphia Flyers 1: Isles rewarded for thorough effort

The Islanders dominated most of the night, and the hockey gods rewarded them. After a discouraging home-and-home lost weekend against the East-leading Montreal Canadiens, the New York Islanders found comforting tonic in a struggling Metro opponent who brought rival-caliber feistiness and violence to the game. The Philadelphia Flyers opened scoring early on the power play, and the goalscorer Claude Giroux tried to stir captain-level intensity by going after Nick Leddy following an awkward hit with Michael Raffl, but it backfired and quality prevailed as the Isles opened their second quarter...

Brayden Schenn on top line, Michal Neuvirth day-to-day

Brayden Schenn was a surprise scratch for Saturday night's game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Tonight, he not only finds himself back in the lineup, but on a line with Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek. Tied for the team-lead in goals with five, Brayden Schenn surely was not expecting to spend Saturday in the press box instead of being on the ice with his teammates. But Dave Hakstol made the decision to give Schenn a night off, apparently dissatisfied with the Flyers forward and his inconsistent two-way play. The benching seemed likely to be temporary, considering Schenn's prominent role...

Flyers, Voracek looking to end scoring drought

Claude Giroux couldn't help but laugh - even though, deep down, he knew it wasn't a laughing matter. One after another, Jake Voracek's shots pinged off the post throughout Friday's practice session at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees. Sure, it was only practice, but that's not where the struggles end for the 26-year-old right winger.

Dave Hakstol jumbles Flyers lines before Sabres game, splits Giroux and Voracek

Big changes in the Flyers lineup. It's not for a lack of trying, but Jakub Voracek doesn't have a goal yet this season. He has the fifth-most shots on goal of anybody in hockey, but no goals. That's enough to let Dave Hakstol try something new. The Flyers top line will be different on Friday night in Buffalo, with Voracek taking a step down and Wayne Simmonds joining Claude Giroux and Matt Read on the top line. Voracek will be centered by Scott Laughton with Brayden Schenn on the other wing. On defense, Brandon Manning is out and Radko Gudas is in. Here are full lines for both teams, via...
