Claude Giroux is going to have to watch out for bears

Avoiding bears is a normal thing to do. Despite our best efforts, it is still the hockey offseason. That means no hockey. That means no Philadelphia Flyers. That means no Claude Giroux - though it does mean Giroux has the chance to go do other stuff now. Like explore the wilderness. And stay away from bears. pic.twitter.com/bPkSsOkwBA — Claude Giroux (@28CGiroux) August 20, 2016 The emoji that accompanies this tweet is somewhat disconcerting. Is he pondering over the protocol? Taking it to heart? Is he skeptical? Is he going to bring along Ilya Bryzgalov for protection, somehow?...

Thursday Morning Fly By: Just sign with Boston already, Vesey.

Today's open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes... *VeseyWatch remains annoying, but like it or not, it is an example of the free agent system working exactly as intended. [Second City Hockey] *This ranking of the league's 30 best centers has Claude Giroux firmly in the middle. Which, uh...no. Top third at a minimum. [Sports Illustrated] *There were, allegedly, a lot of teams interested in securing the talents of a one Dale Weise. Now Weise wants everyone to know why he chose the Flyers. [BSH] *We learned a lot about the upcoming World Cup...

Well folks it's your lucky day. [Sons of Penn] *Today is the day that the insufferable Jimmy Vesey becomes a free agent, so let the games begin, I guess. We're not getting him but hey let's speculate anyway. [Inquirer] *What might factor into Vesey's decision? [ProHockeyTalk] *Let's have a talk about Claude Giroux. A serious talk. Maybe sit down first. [BSH] *Best game of last season? Best game...

2015-16 Flyers season review: Is there reason to worry about Claude Giroux?

The 2015-16 season brought numerous positive developments for the Philadelphia Flyers. But could star center Claude Giroux be showing signs of a late 20s statistical decline? Over the past two seasons, the Philadelphia Flyers have moved from a franchise stuck in muddled mediocrity to a team with a potentially very bright future. In just two years, general manager Ron Hextall has managed to simultaneously steer his club away from salary cap-induced destruction and restock a formerly-weak farm system -- two very difficult tasks. In addition, key young players in the organization have taken...

Tuesday Morning Fly By: Taking the gold medal in the compiling of offseason links

Today's open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes... * Talkin’ ‘bout Michael Del Zotto’s sadly abbreviated 2015-16 season: [BSH] * Since it’s the summer, let’s react strongly to arbitrary player rankings, such as this one from NHL Network that ranks Claude Giroux: [BSH] * Looking back on the late March Flyers/Capitals game, which was maybe my favorite win of the regular season: [Sons of Penn] * The U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame announced its 2016 Hall of Fame class, and it includes the entirety of the 1996 World Cup of Hockey team that...

Claude Giroux's dog rides in comfort, style

He is living the life. You know who I bet has the best life? Claude Giroux's dog. And not just because he's really cute or is probably a really, really good boy - although both are definitely factors to consider - but because he's Claude Giroux's dog. And seriously, look at this: Must be nice.. pic.twitter.com/CzcHrbFYHy — Claude Giroux (@28CGiroux) August 3, 2016 Have you ever been that comfortable on a car ride? I think not. That dog's expression is one of pure contentment; he's so cozy, perfectly strapped in to his perfect-fitting bed-box thing. Even Giroux is jealous, and...

Claude Giroux does the 22 Push-Up Challenge on the ice

It's all about raising awareness for veterans with PTSD. Have you ever done 22 push-ups before? Probably; they aren't exactly hard. But have you ever done them on ice? Probably not, if only for lack of opportunity. The ice is where Claude Giroux makes his living, though, so it only made sense for him to take on the 22 Push-Up Challenge in the rink, in full gear and everything. @28CGiroux ACCEPTS THE CHALLENGE #PTSD #Vets @WoundWarriorCA #NHL @StuntmanStu https://t.co/Awt7X38Kzv @NHLFlyers pic.twitter.com/zffk56ogur — 22 PUSHUPS CANADA (@22PushupsCanada) July 31, 2016 The 22 Push-Up...
