Vokoun on Game 3: 'It doesn’t have any bearing on the game tomorrow unless we let it' - 05-21-12

Empty Netters | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette — During Sunday's marathon Game 3, Tomas Vokoun logged the most ice time of any player on either team at 87:39, edging out his Ottawa counterpart, Craig Anderson, by three seconds. Overtime in the postseason can be exhausting mentally and physically for all players but probably none more so than goaltenders who have to be perfect past regulation for their teams to win. Today, Vokoun talked about the benefit of an extra day of rest, being a starter at the age of 36 and moving on past the disappointing loss. Was it nice to have two days off after Game 3? "Yeah. Definitely. I was pretty tired. It ...

Game 3 Recap: Anderson, Sens bounce back to take Double OT win

PensBurgh — Sometimes, you just get the feeling it's not going to go the way you want it to. For me it happened when Pascal Dupuis rang a shot clean off the far post in the first overtime. Even when the Penguins beat Craig Anderson, they couldn't score. And very rarely were they able to beat him in the first place. Game three between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Ottawa Senators featured an entertaining, heavy-hitting, low-scoring affair that saw some great goaltending from Anderson and Tomas Vokoun, as well as a let down by the Pens. In the last minute of the game, with Pittsburgh up 1-0, the Sen...

Craig Anderson has struggled against the Pens

PensBurgh — Ottawa's Craig Anderson has definitely taken the road less traveled to the second round of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs. He's been drafted by two NHL teams (first by Calgary in 1999 then by Chicago in 2001 when he didn't sign with Calgary). The next five years he bounced between NHL and AHL in Chicago's organization before spending three years in Florida and two more in Colorado before a 2011 move to Ottawa. In three seasons with the Senators, Anderson has posted save percentages of .939, .913 and a sterling .941 mark this season in 24 injury shortened games of the lockout season. By...

Playoff Poll: Pittsburgh Penguins (1) vs. Ottawa Senators (7)

Lighthouse Hockey — I would like to tell you that the Pittsburgh Penguins are going to be ousted by the Ottawa Senators in this series, but unfortunately someone told Dan Bylsma he can play Tomas Vokoun. Vokoun is good -- maybe not Craig Anderson good, but good -- and certainly not the godawful Marc-Andre Fleury we have seen in the playoffs more often than not. The Senators were often outplayed in the first round but Anderson made a big difference. Every bit of luck, be it bounces or injuries, went against the Canadiens in that series. The Senators' 36 shots allowed per game was 14th-worst in the playoffs...
