Rangers' Girardi, Staal undergo successful ankle surgeries

Rangers defensemen Dan Girardi and Marc Staal both underwent successful left ankle surgeries on Thursday.

Procedures for Girardi and Staal

The Rangers announced today Dan Girardi underwent a bursa excision on his ankle and Marc Staal had a bone chip removed from his ankle. Both players are expected to be fully recovered prior to the start of training camp. The surgeries were performed yesterday by Dr. David Levine at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. Asked whether he would need any offseason medical procedures on breakup day, Girardi rolled up his left pant leg to expose his ankle and the tennis ball-sized swelling of his bursa sac.  Girardi added he had the same procedure done on his right ankle seven years...
