Chicago Blackhawks Blog | ESPN Chicago — DETROIT -- Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews was named a finalist for the Mark Messier NHL Leadership Award on Monday. Toews joined Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown and the Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson as finalists. The award is given to the "the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice during the regular season." Messier is responsible for selecting the award finalists and winner.

The Messier award goes to "the player who exemplifies great leadership qualities to his team, on and off the ice during the regular season." Mark Messier solicits suggestions from club and league personnel and NHL fans to compile a list of potential candidates.
