Flames going with the ‘fresh’ guy in net, problem is: who is it?

David Rittich enjoyed every single minute of his National Hockey League All-Star weekend experience. Cam Talbot enjoyed every single minute of his child-free Caribbean vacation with his wife Kelly. And both indicated that they were well-rested for the upcoming, important stretch of hockey to be played for the Calgary Flames — that includes the week’s […]

Flames Have Legitimate No. 1 in All-Star Goalie Rittich

Don’t believe the hype that there’s a Calgary Flames goaltending controversy. The only controversy should be how analysts refuse to give David Rittich the respect he’s earned as the team’s undisputed No. 1 in front of Cam Talbot. Rittich’s Path to the NHL There are a lot of theories as to why hockey fans outside […] The post Flames Have Legitimate No. 1 in All-Star Goalie Rittich appeared first on The Hockey Writers.
Statistical Summarization — CGY @ TOR

Statistical Summarization — CGY @ TOR

Photo by Claus Andersen/ A good example of a game where you can maximize ones offensive chances despite having limited time with the puck. BSD appreciation post as well. David Rittich. I have to start with him. The Toronto Maple Leafs offence is absolutely dynamic and he stopped 26 saves @ 5v5. He only faced an expected Goals against of 1.67 at 5v5, and 2.45 in all situations, PK’s and OT included. The stat that jumps off the page (besides the W) is that Dave faced 8 High Danger chances at even strength and turned all of them aside. The Flames as a team didn’t get too much going, but...
Fan Poll Friday: Who Gets It?

Fan Poll Friday: Who Gets It?

Two hot goalies, who starts Saturday? Fan Poll Friday Photo by Brett Holmes/Icon Sportswire via With the final game approaching before the extended All Star break the Flames are in a good position. Both of their goaltenders are playing outstanding hockey as of late. Cam Talbot has won his last three starts and David Rittich has been lights out in his last two. Calgary plays Ottawa on Saturday and after that it's 10 days with nothing. David Rittich will get some time at the ASG, but Talbot will have a really long break between starts. So, what say you Armchair...

Flames’ David Rittich puts on all-star worthy show against Maple Leafs

In a year in which Big Save Dave has parked himself amongst league stat leaders with a consistency that earned him an all-star nod, the idea was that next week in St. Louis would be his chance to really shine. Apparently he just couldn’t wait that long. The post NHL appeared first on Sportsnet.ca.

Rittich, Tkachuk lead Flames to shootout victory in Toronto

TORONTO — You weren’t worried, were you, that David Rittich’s rough-patch would last? It hasn’t. You weren’t worried, were you, that Matthew Tkachuk would be distracted by all of the controversy and chatter over the past few days? He wasn’t. Rittich was the Calgary Flames’ best-of-the-bunch for the second consecutive outing and Tkachuk ensured that a […]

Highlight Of The Game: David Rittich’s Big Save

Dan Hamilton-USA TODAY Sports Auston Matthews learned why the man is known as Big Save Dave. Highlight Of The Night The Flames and Maple Leafs played an incredibly exciting game that ended in a shootout, with the Flames collecting two points in a 2-1 victory. David Rittich was an absolute STAR last night as he looks like he’s regained that confidence we’d seen all season long before his minor slump. His game changing play was on full display and no more than evidenced in his huge blocker save at the 5:17 mark of the third period. With the score tied at 1-1 the Flames turned the puck...

David Rittich Heading to NHL All-Star Game

Photo by Gerry Thomas/NHLI via The NHL has announced that David Rittich will be heading to this year’s NHL All Star weekend in St. Louis. Rittich was included as a result of Darcy Kuemper of the Coyotes going down with injury. He will join Flames teammates Matthew Tkachuk and Mark Giordano at the event in St. Louis. Rittich has a 18-11-5 record this year with two shutouts. He has a .913 SV% and a 2.79 GAA. The last Calgary Flames goaltender to attend the all-star game was Miikka Kiprusoff back in 2007, so it’s been a long time coming for the franchise.
