Who's Hot, Who's Not: Everybody loves Marty

After a big performance in Vancouver last week, Martin Hanzal is wearing this week's "Hot" crown. Check out who the runners-up were, as well as who made the "list-that-shall-not-be-named." The Hot 1. Martin Hanzal Marty's season finally began Friday night in Vancouver, where he recorded a natural hat trick in a 5-0 winning effort over the Canucks. Even captain Shane Doan has called Hanzal the team's "most important player," one who must be playing at the top of his game if the team is to achieve any sort of consistent success. 2. The goalie conversation There's no denying that Devan Dubnyk...

Coyotes goalies may be nearing equal footing

Coyotes goalies may be nearing equal footing

It may seem like a goalie controversy is brewing among the Coyotes, what with backup Devan Dubnyk riding a two-game win streak and sporting a 4-0-1 record. But General Manager Don Maloney isn't complaining about the dynamic that's presented itself.

Ex-Edmonton Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk scores first star of game, icing on cake against old team

It was the stuff of technicolour dreams for goalie Devan Dubnyk: first star in his first game against his old buddies, coming oh-so-close to a shutout, but for Taylor Hall’s powerplay effort through heavy traffic late in the third. It added up to a 2-1 Arizona Coyotes win over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday – the 15th straight game the desert dogs have scored at least a point against the Oilers.

Rieder gives Arizona Coyotes a younger version of Lehtinen

Tobias Rieder slipped through the cracks on Sunday while fans were watching Sam Gagner in his homecoming at Rexall Place and one-time Edmonton Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk was minding the store for the visiting Arizona Coyotes. The German-born Rieder, a buddy of Oilers rookie centre Leon Draisaitl, was dealt by Edmonton to the Coyotes on March 29, 2013, for snarly winger Kale Kessy.

A "Frustrating" Game Recap ( 5-0 L )

Ahhhh yes, the Coyotes. Dave Tippett likes to take the joy in the game of hockey and just choke the life out of it. The style that his team can be characterized as "low event hockey". One thing they are good at is defending. They got some breaks tonight, but sure had to defend ! The Canucks probably deserved a better fate in this one, but will now have to stew until Wednesday in Edmonton. The biggest surprise to start this one was that Devan Dubnyk was given the start over Mike Smith.  With nine goals in the past two games for the #1 in Arizona, maybe that was not really a surprise...

NHL results, Nov. 14

Martin Hanzal had a natural hat trick to open the scoring, with two of the goals only 9 seconds apart, and Devan Dubnyk made 35 saves in Arizona’s first shutout of the season as the visiting Coyotes routed the Vancouver Canucks 5-0 on Friday night. Shane Doan and Keith Yandle, on a power play in the final three minutes, also had goals for Arizona. The Coyotes, who entered last in the Western Conference and 28th overall in the NHL, ended their three-game losing streak. Goalie Braden Holtby made the only mistake in a game of stellar saves, getting caught behind the net and practically...

The Best Hockey Story I Ever Heard on a Tuesday

Professional good guy and father to at least thirty children @mennoknight graces us with his presence and this fantastic true* story he was a primary witness to. I spent a summer/fall working for the WHL's most storied franchise, the Kamloops Blazers. When I was a kid in high school, they called it the Montreal of the WHL because the team had been so good for so long. When I worked there, they were more like the Montreal of 1998. I'm saying they were bad. It was a very eventful summer. I spent most of my time watching training camp. I was impressed by Devan Dubnyk's intelligence and height,...
