Wild start second half with a nail-biting 2-1 victory over Oilers

It wasn't pretty, but they got it done. It took a turnover in the neutral zone that sprung Charlie Coyle in alone on Oilers' goaltender Viktor Fasth. What happened after that was a beauty of a game-winning goal. In a game that provided very little offense, the Wild was able to hold off the Oilers to start the unofficial second half of the season. Devan Dubnyk stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced. Not only were some of his saves spectacular with two-pad stacks and right-to-left lateral movement saves, they were ever-so important. The Wild held Edmonton to just five shots on goal in the...

HW Podcast Episode 026: Stadium Series Summit

Tony Dean returns to the podcast to talk Outdoor Games, All-Star Games, and unfortunately, Wild games. In this episode of the Hockey Wildeness Podcast, Tony Dean of Hockey Buzz returns to join Aaron and Tony for a discussion of the Wild (finally) getting a Stadium Series Game. Yay outdoor hockey! The discussion then turns to the All-Star Game, and Ryan Suter’s participation in the festivities. We have a lot to say about it despite the fact that Aaron was the only one who actually watched it. Again, we have another week of As the Goalies Turn, as Devan Dubnyk showed some cracks in his...

Wilderness Walk: Achy Breaky All-Star Break

Quite a comeback from a team that could have easily quit. It's great to see a hop in the Wild's step, even when they are down. Down 4-1 with 14:00 to go, your Minnesota Wild decided they wanted to extend their play further into the All-Star break.  Zach Parise put the team on his back and carried the Wild into the extra session, sandwiching two goals around a Thomas Vanek score to force overtime.  Darcy Kuemper, who had come on in relief during the second period after Devan Dubnyk experienced his first true adversity in a Wild sweater, could not stop the Red Wings in the shootout.  The...

Wild rally in 3rd period; Fall in shootout to Red Wings 5-4

With three third period goals, two by Zach Parise, Minnesota gained a valuable point, but couldn't secure the second point as they lose in a shootout. Many fans were just done with the Wild after 30 minutes. The struggling team had all kinds of shots and scoring chances, but Red Wings starter, Petr Mrazek, was doing just enough to frustrate the hell out of the Wild. After falling down early 4-1, and chasing their new goalie Devan Dubnyk from the net, the Minnesota Wild would score three times to tie the game in the third period. Drafted 111th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Teemu...

Preview: Wild @ Red Wings

Dubnyk starts for the 4th time in four games. Prosser in, Dumba out. Tonight the Minnesota Wild will be in Detroit , on the heels of a back-back after dropping one in St. Paul on Monday evening. Darcy Kuemper was activated from the IR and will back up Devan Dubnyk despite belief that Kuemper or Niklas Backstrom would start. Speaking of Backstrom, he is a healthy scratch tonight since the Wild are still carrying three goalies on the roster. Nate Prosser will dress tonight in place of Matt Dumba, as Yeo really missed his penalty kill "presence." Prosser will be paired with Christian Folin and...

Preview: Blue Jackets @ Wild

Minnesota wraps up its homestand as Ryan Suter returns to the lineup Tonight the Wild host the Blue Jackets trying to build on their (insert loud gasp) two-game winning streak. Its the first time since mid-November that Minnesota owns a winning streak. Devan Dubnyk has started both of those games and has looked impressive in limited action. Its amazing how different a team can play when a confident netminder is in. Not to say Kuemper & Backstrom are not, but man hockey is a weird game. Ryan Suter returns from his suspension tonight. Minnesota won both games without Suter and with his return...

Dubnyk wins revenge match as Arizona Coyotes drop fourth straight

Vermette scored and Smith was solid, but it was Dubnyk and the Minnesota Wild with the last laugh, as the former Coyote goaltender beat the team that traded him earlier this week. Devan Dubnyk stopped 25-of-26 shots en route to a 3-1 victory over his former team, the Arizona Coyotes Saturday night. Charlie Coyle, Jason Zucker and Zach Parise scored for Minnesota while Antoine Vermette potted his 11th of the year for the Coyotes. Arizona drops its fourth in a row and starts their eight-game road trip on a poor note. After trading Dubnyk for a third round pick earlier in the week, Arizona is...

Wild start a winning streak with win over Coyotes on Hockey Day Minnesota

In a perfect celebration of hockey, the state's professional team capped off a big day with a win over the Coyotes. Jason Zucker's game winner at 8:41 of the second period was enough for Devan Dubnyk to secure his second in a row in a Wild sweater. Dubnyk stopped all but one of the 26 shots he faced as he tallied an assist against his former team. It was Hockey Day Minnesota across the state. Fans celebrated the sport of hockey and the way the game has intermingled in Minnesota's heritage. With great high school games played on an ice rink in the middle of the tarmac on Holman Field in St....
