Edmonton Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk focuses on his job ‘regardless of what's going on'

Edmonton Journal — Parked in his stall in the Edmonton Oilers locker-room, two games removed from the end of another trying NHL season, Devan Dubnyk looked depleted on Wednesday. He had just spent 59 minutes and six seconds fending off one odd-man rush after another in a 4-1 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks. And it’s not that Dubnyk hasn’t seen a lot of shots in many of the games he has played this season.

Dubnyk's huge save turning point for Edmonton Oilers

Edmonton Journal — Edmonton Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk didn’t get an assist on Ales Hemsky’s dazzling game-winner on Thursday night, but if he didn’t rob Cam Atkinson 10 seconds before Hemsky rolled up the ice, the Oilers would have been toast against the Columbus Blue Jackets. “Changed the game,” said Oilers captain Shawn Horcoff.

Minnesota Wild score three third-period goals to beat Edmonton Oilers in one-sided NHL affair

Edmonton Journal — Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk acrobatically kept the Oilers in the one-sided game through 40 minutes with the shots 29-7 and the visitors managing nary a shot on goalie Nicklas Backstrom in the second period, but the Wild predictably broke through in the third for a 4-2 victory. In the last 20 meetings here, the Wild is 19-1, and Backstrom, who always looks like Ken Dryden in the net, is 17-0 and has a 1.30 goals-against average and a .950 save percentage.

Edmonton Oilers coach's gut-feeling call to start Nikolai Khabibulin in net against NHL's best team pays off

Edmonton Journal — Edmonton Oilers’ coach Ralph Krueger says it was gut feeling to play goalie Nikolai Khabibulin against the jugggernaut Blackhawks in Chicago Monday night when everything screamed for a return to Devan Dubnyk, who is supposed to be their No. 1 guy. Krueger might have been sick to his stomach if Khabibulin was digging pucks out of the net against the Hawks, the NHL’s greatest team from the start of a season, while Dubnyk sat. But, the 40-year-old Khabibulin is no virgin to big games, and he gave his club a chance to win until they deserted him in OT.

Edmonton Journal — Mention the words “severed Achilles” to any hockey player and he becomes squeamish.“Yeah, just the thought of it makes me sick,” said a wincing Edmonton Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk.
