Vancouver Canucks: Can Quinn Hughes be the team’s best defender?

The Vancouver Canucks have had a new face of the franchise in each of the past two seasons. First it was Brock Boeser, then Elias Pettersson. Can Quinn Hughes be the next Canucks rookie to blow expectations out of the water? Vancouver Canucks general manager Jim Benning was brought in to the team because of his […] Vancouver Canucks: Can Quinn Hughes be the team’s best defender? - The Canuck Way - The Canuck Way - A Vancouver Canucks Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

Brock Boeser is a “Lean, mean, Petey winger machine”

Brock Boeser is a “Lean, mean, Petey winger machine”

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, and that certainly seems to be the case with Brock Boeser and the Canucks. Boeser’s absence from training camp and the first few games of the preseason was tangible, particularly on Tuesday night. Elias Pettersson lined up with free agent signing Micheal Ferland on his left wing, but, instead of Boeser, he had Utica Comets star Reid Boucher on his right wing. That’s no slight to Boucher, who set a new Comets record for goals last season, but he’s no Brock Boeser.

Canucks Seek to Bounce Back in Season of Redemption

Brock Boeser scored 26 goals last season — good enough for third on the Vancouver Canucks behind Elias Pettersson’s 28 and Bo Horvat’s 27 — a solid number considering he was injured for 13 games. He could have surpassed the 30-goal mark had he remained healthy for the entirety of the season, but netting just […] The post Canucks Seek to Bounce Back in Season of Redemption appeared first on The Hockey Writers.

Almost everything Elias Pettersson does thrills and amazes, which in itself is remarkable since so much is expected of last season’s Calder Trophy winner and one of the National Hockey League’s greatest young talents. The post NHL appeared first on Sportsnet.ca.

Vancouver Canucks Training Camp Wraps Up

Vancouver Canucks Training Camp Wraps Up

Getting to see the Vancouver Canucks - even if it is just at training camp - lets fans know summer's finally over. Unseemly speculation continues, though, because it's the Vancouver Canucks. Training Camp Standouts The Veterans Elias Pettersson was everything you expected. A beautiful, looping pass breaking Micheal Ferland in for a goal. Intercepting passes in his zone to reverse play. An oddly familiar shootout goal for the win. You know... everything that's making his name come up in salary cap discussions. Opening night's weeks away, is it? Dang. The minor drama that was Jake Virtanen...

With first-line experience, Micheal Ferland set to play with Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser

When Vancouver was first introduced to Micheal Ferland, it was as a hard-forechecking pest in the 2015 playoffs. The rookie got under the skin and into the heads of the Canucks in their first-round matchup against the Calgary Flames. He caused Kevin Bieksa to lose his cool and capped off the series with two goals and an assist in the deciding game six. Since then, however, Ferland has evolved into more than just an agitator. For the last two seasons, Ferland has been a first-line forward for two different teams.

Who could be an unexpected breakout star for the Canucks in the preseason?

Who could be an unexpected breakout star for the Canucks in the preseason?

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. No, not Christmas — we’re not allowed to talk about Christmas until after Halloween, thank you very much — but the start of NHL training camps and preseason. This is the time of year when fans can have boundless optimism, unfettered by the reality of the regular season once it begins. Now is the time to have big dreams of 100 points for Elias Pettersson, 50 goals for Brock Boeser, a Calder Trophy for Quinn Hughes, and making the playoffs, if not more, for the Canucks. It’s also the time to believe that every prospect is bound for stardom at...

Canucks’ Goldobin: Is 2019-20 His Last Chance?

Over the past three seasons, Nikolay Goldobin has had plenty of chances to establish himself as a quality player for the Vancouver Canucks but so far it hasn’t happened. He had a great opportunity when he started last season on Calder Trophy-winner Elias Pettersson’s wing. In fact, the trio of Pettersson, Brock Boeser, and Goldobin […] The post Canucks’ Goldobin: Is 2019-20 His Last Chance? appeared first on The Hockey Writers.

Predicting the Vancouver Canucks Power Play Units

Predicting the Vancouver Canucks Power Play Units

The Vancouver Canucks power play is getting a few new faces this season. J.T. Miller, Micheal Ferland and Tyler Myers will all get time on a man advantage that has fluctuated in recent seasons. Rookie sensation Elias Pettersson certainly helped prop it up last season accumulating 22 power-play points (10 goals, 12 assists). It still felt like it was missing something. Miller, Ferland, and Myers will help, but the real difference-maker is the addition of Quinn Hughes to the number one unit. Here are the formations the Canucks could throw over the boards when they get on the man advantage this...
