2015 Season in Review: Emerson Etem

Emerson Etem's last season in Anaheim brings up an interesting question: What happens when a breakout season doesn't look like a breakout season? Emerson Etem is no longer a Duck. It's a sad fate for someone who grew up a short freeway ride from the then Arrowhead Pond, and someone who shared my second home, Long Beach! Etem was a former first round selection for the Ducks, 29 overall. He was an elite scorer in the WHL, tallying 252 points in 202 games. His scoring talents carried over to the AHL, scoring 92 points in 119 games, and in his last two AHL seasons he put up 75 points in 72...

Rangers Analysis: A Closer Look at Emerson Etem

We're all going to miss Hagelin, but Emerson Etem really and truly has the potential to be something special. One of the first trades that happened during the 2015 NHL Draft was the Rangers acquiring RFA Emerson Etem and the 41st pick from the Ducks for fan favorite RFA Carl Hagelin and the 59th and 179th picks. Not too long after that, on July 14th, the Rangers signed Emerson Etem to a one-year deal with a cap hit of $850,000 (his qualifying offer). Which means that that the 2015-16 season will be a big "show me" year for the alliteratively named American forward. The Rangers moved the...

Jeff Gorton's RFA Work Gives The Rangers Needed Flexibility

Gorton's fantastic work on the RFA front has left the Rangers with more cap space than anticipated. And then there was one. Jeff Gorton has been a busy man this week, locking down J.T. Miller (coverage here), Emerson Etem (coverage here), Jesper Fast (coverage here), Oscar Lindberg (coverage here) and Dylan McIlrath (coverage here) all to contracts below what was originally anticipated. The moves are essentially a continuation of what has really been a fantastic, smart and efficient summer for the Rangers new general manager. The biggest piece of the summer puzzle remains on the table, of...

Catching up as I attempt to take a couple of days off here. Rangers sign RFAs Etem, Lindberg

While contract negotiations with restricted free agent center/offseason top priority Derek Stepan continue to stand still, two RFA forwards did agree to contract terms today. Emerson Etem, 23, acquired from the Ducks along with the 41st pick in this year’s draft (LW) Ryan Gropp) in exchange for RFA Carl Hagelin, signed his one-year qualifying offer of $850,000 while Oscar Lindberg, 23, coming off a strong season at Hartford (AHL), agreed to a two year, $1.3 million deal. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound Lindberg led the Wolf Pack in game-winning goals and finished strong, with points in 16 of...
