Former Flyers defenseman Hal Gill retires after 16 NHL seasons

The 40-year-old defenseman played in over 1,000 NHL games with six teams, including the Flyers. Hal Gill, the big defenseman who played 16 years in the NHL, retired Thursday. Gill, now 40 years old, didn't play this past year after his one-year contract with the Philadelphia Flyers expired last summer. In 2013-14 with the Flyers, Gill played just six games.
