The Daily Chum: How Sharks goaltending stacked up to league average over the years

That Nabokov guy was pretty good. The Sharks enjoyed solid goaltending from Martin Jones this season and throughout San Jose’s long playoff run. James Reimer also played quite well in limited action for the Sharks while Alex Stalock struggled mightily before San Jose sent him to Toronto. That all adds up to a perfectly average .915 team save percentage in the 2015-16 season. In fact, that is exactly* league average goaltending. That got me thinking: How has San Jose netminding stacked up against the league average over the years? The results may surprise you! I have the whole table...

The Daily Chum: Should Aaron Dell back up Martin Jones?

You tell me. I just work here. We (mostly) know how the Sharks will look to start the 2016-17 season — or at least we have a good idea who will make up the team. One hole still waiting to be filled? The backup goaltender. Alex Stalock isn’t coming back, nor is James Reimer so the Sharks will be looking elsewhere for next season’s backup. Since San Jose didn’t ink anyone (yet) in free agency, Aaron Dell looks like the likely successor. He played the past two seasons in the AHL and posted perfectly fine numbers while there. The true benefit to using Dell is the cost: just $575,000 if...

James Reimer signs with the Florida Panthers

James Reimer will not rejoin the San Jose Sharks in the 2016-17 season. The netminder signed a five-year contract with the Florida Panthers worth $3.4 million a year. Reimer played in a total of nine games for the Sharks, starting eight and coming in to relieve Martin Jones once in the playoffs. Reimer to Panthers 5 yr $3.4 mil per. Confirmed.— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) July 1, 2016 This contract is bigger than what the Sharks were going to give him, but it’s interesting to note that he’ll likely be the understudy for Roberto Luongo for at least this season. Luongo’s...

The Dallas Stars' Three Most Likely Goalie Moves for July 1st

The Stars could sign free agent James Reimer, or they could make a trade. July 1st holds all sorts of possibilities for the Stars. What are the three most likely options to wind up between the pipes in October? These ones, obviously. If the NHL draft is Let's Make a Deal, then the opening of Free Agency on July 1st is Shop ‘til You Drop for NHL fans.  Freed from the bothersome constraints of what is "actually possible to do," we can theorize about our team's improvement, and we can invoke almost any names we want in order to effect said improvement.  Basically, we are playing mash...
