Slap Shots: Flyers vs Canadiens

Heather Barry - SB Nation NHL © Wins, they’re fun! The Philadelphia Flyers looked to continue their strong start at home with a battle against the Montreal Canadiens. Phil Myers opened the scoring with a wrist shot from the point that found its way through traffic. James van Riemsdyk added a quick one in the second period and the Flyers dominated the shot chart, but they couldn’t quite put the Canadiens away. Six power plays and a penalty shot through three periods, but the Orange and Black couldn’t solve Carey Price. So the game would eventually head to overtime. In overtime,...

Suddenly red-hot Flyers look to stay hot against even hotter Islanders

Photo by Bill Smith/NHLI via Something’s gotta give in this one, gang. The Flyers are suddenly one of the hottest teams in the Eastern Conference, but they’ll get a test from the hottest on Sunday night. That’s right, the New York Islanders are scorching hot and winners of six straight heading into a date with the Flyers, who are winners of three straight in their own right. Kevin Hayes, James van Riemsdyk, and Jakub Voracek paced the Flyers to a 7-4 comeback win over the Blue Jackets on Saturday night from the Wells Fargo Center. Five Flyers posted multi-point nights in the...

Slap Shots: Flyers vs Blue Jackets

Heather Barry - SB Nation NHL THAT WAS FUN. The Philadelphia Flyers were back in action at the Wells Fargo Center looking to keep their streak of games going as they hosted the Columbus Blue Jackets. Things got off on the right foot as Jake Voracek gave the Flyers an early lead in the first period. Columbus would answer right back just two minutes later, keeping things tied heading into the intermission. Riding that momentum, the Blue Jackets got a goal early in the second period and looked to keep a lead into the second break, but James van Riemsdyk tied things up on the power play....

Game #11 Recap: “Tough night” is an understatement.

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports That hurt to watch. Man, the Jackets have been fun to watch lately. Coming off an OT win against the Hurricanes on Thursday, the Jackets traveled to Philadelphia to take on a Metro rival. First period: Both teams were off to a bit of a choppy start, each drawing penalties in the first ten minutes, resulting in two uneventful power plays. The Flyers found the back of the net first, on a shot by Jakub Voracek, assisted by James van Riemsdyk. Fortunately, Jackets are able to answer late in the first — Sonny Milano brought the puck up the ice and released...
