Game 37 Recap: New Look Jackets Defeat the Preds 3-1

The Cannon — With new addition Marian Gaborik in the lineup, the Jackets took it to their former nemesis in their barn. Gaborik made an instant impact, and James Wisniewski converted on the powerplay. First Period Notes: Sergei Bobrovsky got the call for the Jackets, while the Preds countered with Pekka Rinne. For the better part of the opening period, the Predators dictated play, keeping the Jackets hemmed in their zone. This was due to a combination of Columbus defenders failing to clear the zone, and a tenacious forecheck by the Preds. The Preds were out to prove something after appearing li...

Blue Jackets notebook: Wisniewski’s return close

Columbus Dispatch — Blue Jackets defenseman James Wisniewski made a bold pronouncement between gasps of air yesterday. Wisniewski, out because of a broken foot since Feb. 24, was put through a heavily taxing practice, the third straight day he has cranked up the cardio and stretched his lungs apart from his teammates. That’s one good sign. The other is that he packed his bags and is traveling with the Blue Jackets on a four-game, seven-day trip that begins tonight at the Nashville Predators.

The New Foundation: James Wisniewski, Yes or No?

The Cannon — So far in our look at the players that could be part of the team's "New Foundation", we've mostly talked about forwards. Time to take a look at the back end of the roster. There's really no better place to start than the club's $6 million (Ok, $5.5, but I'm rounding up) man, James Wisniewski. Wiz Out, Brassard Down - The Body Count Rises

The Cannon — The Jackets have officially placed James Wisniewski on IR for his broken foot, with an estimated recovery time of 4-6 weeks. If we look at the worst case (and at this point, why not?), he'll probably return for the final week of the regular season. In the mean time, I'd expect to see Fedor Tyutin and Nikita Nikitin logging heavy minutes, while the MASH unit of Erixon, Moore, Aucoin, and Goloubef fill in the slack until Jack Johnson can get healthy and draw back in. Meanwhile, Aaron Portzline has reported that Derick Brassard's injury from last night's game, while thankfully not a conc...

Fantasy Hockey Injury News for Wednesday

Fantasy Hockey Scouts — Nobody beats the Wiz, especially when it comes to crappy luck as James Wisniewski has a broken foot and will miss "an extended period of time". Over the past four seasons he's played an average of just 60 per year. As I said the other day, my spidey sense was tingling over Martin Brodeur's sore back and now the Devils have placed him on the IR, so he'll miss at least the next two games. Matt Duchene has a groin injury and couldn't play last night. The Avs are hopeful that it's not a long-term thing... as am I. Andy McDonald left Blues practice yesterday with a leg injury... the brigh...
