Stanley Cup of Chowder — Providence exploded for four second period goals to lead Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 5-3 after two periods in game one of the Eastern Conference Semifinals of the AHL Calder Cup Playoffs. Jordan Caron, Kyle MacKinnon, Jamie Tardif and Carter Camper were the goal scorers for the Providence Bruins. Chris Bourque had two assists in the period to go along with his first period helper. Two former Hockey East players scored goals for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in the second period. Boston College alum Brian Gibbons scored and UNH's Paul Thompson connected on the power play.

Boston Bruins Blog | ESPN Boston — WILMINGTON, Mass. -- Longtime minor leaguer Jamie Tardif was informed late Thursday night that he would have an opportunity to make his NHL debut for the Boston Bruins on Saturday night in his hometown of Toronto. With the injuries to Bruins’ forwards Shawn Thornton (concussion) and Daniel Paille (upper body) during Boston’s 7-4 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday, the Bruins decided to recall Tardif from their AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins.

Bruins Blog | Providence Journal — By Mike McDermott AP photo / Charles Krupa The Bruins have announced that forward Shawn Thornton will miss 7 to 10 days due to a concussion he suffered during a fight on Thursday with the Buffalo Sabres' John Scott. At 6-8 and 258 pounds, Scott has 6 inches and 41 pounds on Thornton. Thornton took several shots to the head in the fight and fell to the ice. He did not return to the game. Boston has recalled Jamie Tardif, the Providence Bruins' leading scorer with 21 goals and nine assists. The P-Bruins have recalled Alden Hirschfeld on loan from the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL.
