St. Louis Game Time It's always such a relief to know that the Blues are a lock for the playoffs, isn't it? No more nailbiting, no more getting upset about every goal against - we can just watch the game tonight and enjoy it for what it is. Of course, the Blues still have something to play for: home ice advantage. Then again, their home record this season is 13-8-1, and their road record is 14-9-1, so six of one, half dozen of the other. No Barret Jackman tonight as he got hurt blocking a second period shot on Tuesday night, so Kris Russell is in. Jaroslav Halak isn't ready to start yet, but he miiiiight ...

St. Louis Game Time Wow, what a difference 10 days makes, huh? The last time the Blues saw the Wild, Jaroslav Halak started the game before tweaking a groin muscle. Brian Elliott came in, made 19 saves, and saved the Blues' bacon for the evening by getting a win. Since then, Elliott has won four games straight, including two shut-outs, and the Blues have won five games in a row. They're currently in 6th place in the Western Conference. Maybe that little trip to the minors helped Elliott regain a lot of focus? What say you, Ken Hitchcock? “I think we’re kicking ourselves in the ass for not having him go...

St. Louis Game Time The Blues and Wild are pretty close together in the standings -- if the Blues want to crawl up to 4th place and home ice advantage, they're going to have to take out the Wild tonight. The last time the Blues and the Wild squared off, Jaroslav Halak broke his groin and Brian Elliott started on his path to resurgence. The Blues were a bubble team, and the Wild were in first place in the Northwest. Now? The Wild're in seventh place and the Blues are in sixth, both with 46 points. If the Blues continue at the same rate that they've been playing, they could ver well work their way up to hom...

If the Blues continue at the same rate that they've been playing, they could ver well work their way up to home ice advantage by the end of the season. That'd be swell. Brian Elliott will be back in net again tonight. His back to back shutouts of the Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators h...
St. Louis Blues April 11, 2013
St. Louis Game Time It's often been said that Brian Elliott plays better when the fire of competition has been lit under his ass. Last season, he had Jaroslav Halak pushing him, and when Halak went down, Elliott knew that the fate of the Blues season rested on his shoulders. Of course, that helped Halak and Elliott win the Jennings Trophy last year for the fewest goals allowed by a NHL team. This season? Yeah, not going to win that Jennings. After a pretty ok start for Elliott, the wheels came off, his GAA ballooned to over 3.50, and no shot was too squishy soft to go in. The fanbase collectively sighed i...

Fantasy Hockey Scouts Jaroslav Halak had to leave last night's game after folding at the end of the first period. It was either a groin or knee injury and we'll let you know when there is more information. Dave Bolland made a kick save and in retrospect maybe that wasn't a great idea as he had to leave with a sore foot. He's probably just day-to-day. Gabriel Bourque left last night's game after absorbing a hit from Dan Carcillo. He's out with a UBI. Docs say that Sidney Crosby (broken jaw) should be able to return within a month, so potentially before the end of the regular season. Milan Hejduk was placed...

St. Louis Game Time Remember when we all cried with anguish that the Blues had sent down Jake Allen to Peoria? Well, cry no more, because Allen's returned. Sure, it's because Jaroslav Halak tweaked his groin at the end of the second period last night, but still. This isn't to diminish Brian Elliott's excellent performance in net Monday, not at all. But really, how many people believe that Allen belongs in Peoria? No one? Good. Next injury to deal with is T.J. Oshie. Osh was hurt in the Blues' 4-2 loss to the LA Kings last week and sat out Monday's tilt. This probably isn't the best time for Oshie to go d...
St. Louis Blues April 2, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy Jaroslav Halak's lower-body injury suffered Monday night is to his groin and is expected to keep him out for a while, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. "Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to be a little while," St. Louis head coach Ken Hitchcock said.
April 2, 2013CBSSports.com Fantasy Jaroslav Halak left Monday's game with a lower-body injury and will not return, Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

St. Louis Game Time Brian Elliott hasn't won a game since January 31st. He wasn't the starter tonight; Jaroslav Halak was -- but at the end of the first period, Halak went down with a re-tweaked groin. I'm fairly sure that I heard people groan "no, not Elliott" all the way down here in Atlanta, but man, what a bounceback game with some great saves. Maybe getting a shutout down in Peoria in his last game down there helped; who knows? What I do know is that Ells saved 19 of 20 shots, and the goal that he allowed wasn't exactly a soft one. The Blues' defense was much tighter than usual, especially on the pen...
