Hockey World: NHL iron men a rare, tough breed

Ulcers ate away at Edmonton Oilers assistant coach Craig Ramsay’s stomach two decades ago before doctors had to remove it and hooked up his small intestine to his esophagus so he could eat, but Ramsay’s stomach for playing night after night in Buffalo, 776 straight games, was legendary. With the Oilers in St. Louis to face the Blues Friday, this was going to be a feel-good story about Blues defenceman Jay Bouwmeester closing in on Ramsay with the National Hockey League’s fifth all-time Iron Man streak at 737 games to Ramsay’s fourth.
