2015 NHL Awards recap: The Calgary Flames received a lot of love

Awards shows are always subjective, and usually disastrous as a result. That said, a lot of voters showed the Flames a lot of love, so they couldn't have been all bad. Another season is officially in the books. Before all eyes turn to the future, set to take centre stage in the upcoming NHL entry draft, first, we looked to the past year, and honoured it one last time. The votes came in, and the biggest winner by far - Jiri Hudler's shoes aside - was Carey Price, with a clean sweep of the Vezina, William Jennings, and Hart Trophies, not to mention the Ted Lindsay Award. The second biggest...

The saga of Jiri Hudler and his missing shoes

Jiri Hudler is not wearing any shoes. Jiri Hudler, an all-important leader (and, some would argue - namely us - father) of the Calgary Flames, has brought a lot of light into our lives. He had a career season, became a 30-goal scorer, and mentored Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan all the while. Would the Flames have made the playoffs without him? Almost certainly not. Most recently, he won the Lady Byng, and helped save what was a pretty terrible NHL Awards show by coming up to recite his speech... without shoes. "Vegas, what a city." Lady Byng Trophy 2015: Jiri Hudler wins is the NHL's nicest good hockey player, basically

And his speech was wonderful. The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy, given annually to the NHL player who best exemplifies skill and gentlemanly conduct, belongs to Calgary Flames forward Jiri Hudler in 2015. The other finalists were Pavel Datsyuk of the Detroit Red Wings and Anze Kopitar of the Los Angeles Kings. A Gentleman and a Sniper: Jiri Hudler wins the 2015 Lady Byng Memorial Award

Flames right winger and proud father of two takes home the league's award for sportsmanship. It's been a busy night for the Flames thus far at the NHL Awards, with four nominations and one win so far with Bob Hartley's Jack Adams win. Jiri Hudler doubled that total after taking home the Lady Byng Memorial Trophy tonight. Annually awarded to the "player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability," it is easy to see why the voters (PWHA writers) deemed Hudler most suitable. His 2014-15 season saw him best...

2014-15 Flames report cards: Jiri Hudler

Today is a special day. Not only is it Jiri Hudler's report card day but it's also Father's Day. We can't think of anyone who embodies the fatherly spirit than Sean and Johnny's dad. When Jiri Hudler was signed back in July of 2012, it turned a lot of heads. Mostly for the $4M x four year contract as at the time it seemed to not address some more prominent issues with the team. Regardless, it didn't take long for me to admire and really appreciate the type of skill Hudler has. Something that is echoed repeatedly among Red Wings fans, writers, and folks close to Detroit. What stands out more...
