Should the Hurricanes claim Mike Komisarek off waivers?

Canes Country — The Carolina Hurricanes are in desperate need of a body or two at the blueline. Joe Corvo has been out with a lower body injury and now Justin Faulk, who leads the defense in ice time, is out for two to four weeks with a sprained MCL. While he is back for now, Joni Pitkanen has been in and out of the lineup with issues. But even putting aside the injuries, since the loss of Bryan Allen to free agency last season, the Hurricanes have been in need of a more physical presence in their own end. Corvo expects full recovery by Sens' Karlsson

Canes Now | News & Observer — While Erik Karlsson's slashed Achilles tendon has Ottawa Senators fans in mourning, Canes defenseman Joe Corvo says he expects Karlsson to return to his fast-skating, dynamic defensive form. Corvo ought to know. He's had the same injury. In a November 2009 game against the Washington Capitals, Corvo was cut on the lower right leg by the skate of Caps defenseman Karl Alzner. Corvo said his Achilles tendon received a 75-cut sever. Alzner's skate also sliced into a nerve and Corvo's calf muscle. "It's pretty tough," Corvo said Friday of the rehab required from such an injury. "Your calf, I don't ...

Leafs fall to Canes, 3-1.

Pension Plan Puppets — The Leafs traveled to Carolina last night and traded rushes with the Hurricanes, who were also missing two of their top defensemen in Pitkanen and Gleason. Joe Corvo scored a goal on a great effort by Eric Staal and a poor effort by everyone in the Leafs' zone. Nazem Kadri tipped in a goal thanks to a great shot by Dion Phaneuf. Jussi Jokinen scored on the rush as either Holzer or Komarov knocked the puck out of Scrivens' glove. Skinner led a rush, Ben Scrivens made a big save, but Jordan Staal sealed the game when he got to the rebound uncontested. Where was the D? The Leafs traded ru...
