Islanders News: Zen goalie and the art of consistency maintenance

Also, the Yes! Yes! Yes! man retires. It's Islanders gameday, which means more anxiety. But we have some audio anxiety posting later this morning. Leave your FIG Picks for tonight over yonder. Islanders Reads Jack Capuano talks about consistency and Thomas Greiss talks zen about when he starts and when he doesn't. Capuano: "The last eight games we played some pretty good hockey. I know that our record is not perfect in that stretch, but if we play like that we’re going to win hockey games.’’ [Newsday] Johnny Boychuk the Defenseman's return also means Johnny Boychuk the Good In The...

Johnny Boychuk gives Islanders more than offensive output

The difference for the Islanders with and without Johnny Boychuk in the lineup is drastic. The veteran defenseman played his second game back from injury in the 8-1 rout of the Oilers on Sunday afternoon at Barclays Center, and his presence was made known when he scored 2:57 into the first to give his team...

Islanders' Johnny Boychuk plays for first time since Dec. 31

DETROIT -- Johnny Boychuk played for the first time since Dec. 31, having missed 11 games with a shoulder injury. He played only 16:52, a low total for him, and didn't see any power-play time despite the Isles struggles on the man advantage.

New York Islanders vs. Detroit Red Wings: Johnny Boychuk returns

The first of a back-to-back afternoon weekend. The New York Islanders visit the Detroit Red Wings Saturday afternoon with their blueline intact. Johnny Boychuk is back in the lineup for the first time in 2016, having hit IR after the New Year's Eve game in Buffalo. To make room on the roster with Boychuk coming off of IR, Scott Mayfield was returned to Bridgeport. Jaroslav Halak is in goal. Islanders will get Johnny Boychuk back against Detroit

DETROIT -- The Islanders have been playing well over their last seven games, including Thursday night's 3-2 loss to the Capitals in Washington. That one may have actually been their best of the previous seven.

Defenseman Johnny Boychuk close to return for Islanders

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Johnny Boychuk wasn't ready to return Thursday night, missing his 11th straight game with a shoulder injury he suffered on New Year's Eve in Buffalo. But he got in another long skate in the morning and Jack Capuano pointed towards the weekend games, Saturday in Detroit and Sunday in Brooklyn against the Oilers, as the new target for Boychuk's return.

Islanders News: Halak rests, Hamonic sweats, Boychuk skates, exhibition looms

In which everybody hits the All-Star break wondering what the hell just happened. Today is a Wednesday and that should mean something to you. What that is, well we leave that up to you. Islanders Reads Travis Hamonic says it's playoff hockey from here on out, and the Isles are hoping Johnny Boychuk is back after the break or soon thereafter. [Newsday] Count Jaroslav Halak among those happy for the break, and not playing in a (now 3-on-3) All-Star game like last year. Islanders hope to have Johnny Boychuk back sooner rather than later

Though Jack Capuano thinks his team plays better when they play more, there were moments during Monday night's 4-2 loss against the Red Wings where maybe it seemed like this long, long break actually was coming at the right time.

Johnny Boychuk battles Mother Nature and wins (for now)

Might want to keep that shovel handy, just in case. Prior to tonight's game in Ottawa, injured Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk Tweeted this at his teammates: Win tonight @NYIslanders and I personally will make sure your vehicles aren't covered in snow when you get back tonight... — Johnny Boychuk (@joboych) January 22, 2016 Four hours later, the Islanders left the Canadian Tire Centre with a 5-2 win over the Senators and Boychuk, who in the offseason revealed himself to be a "Swiffer Sweeper kind of guy" when it comes to home maintenance, suddenly started watching the weather...

Adam Pelech latest Isles defenseman to be bitten by injury bug

The Islanders handled this past week without both Johnny Boychuk and Travis Hamonic pretty well, going 2-0-1 while allowing only four goals. One of the nicer surprises among the defense fill-ins was Adam Pelech, who was especially good against the Rangers on Thursday.
