Johnny Boychuk has an ‘interesting’ return to Boston

The toughest part of Thursday night’s return to Boston for Johnny Boychuk came during the national anthem. “Just feeling the atmosphere and being back on the ice,” Boychuk said. “I tried not to look anywhere but just concentrate, and be prepared for the game. That was the most difficult part, but after the first couple […]

Bruins miss old friend Johnny Boychuk

For the Bruins and their fans, it’s probably going to be a little painful each time the team plays the New York Islanders.Watching last night’s matchup — an impressive and entertaining 3-2 win by the Islanders at the Garden — as well as two more games that will follow in the regular season (maybe a playoff clash, too), it’s impossible to look at No. 55 on the Islanders, defenseman Johnny Boychuk, and not recall how the Bruins gave him away and didn’t get a whole lot in return.

Islanders Win In Boychuk's Return To Boston

In his first game back in Boston since being traded, Johnny Boychuk and the Islanders beat the Bruins 3-2.

W2W4: Bruins host Islanders, 7 p.m.

The Boston Bruins (4-4-0, eight points) host the New York Islanders (4-2-0, eight points) Thursday night (7 ET) at TD Garden. Here’s what to watch for: WELCOME BACK: Former Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk and former goaltender Chad Johnson will both be on the ice when puck drops tonight. This is the first time Boychuk will face the Bruins since he was traded to the Islanders on Oct. 4. In his first six games for New York, Boychuk has two goals and four assists for six points.

Boychuk: It'll be 'weird' to face old mates

BOSTON -- No more than a month ago, New York Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk would walk into the TD Garden and think nothing of it. On Thursday, however, the experience seemed almost surreal. Heading to the away team’s locker room, watching the Bruins during their morning skate, seeing plenty of old faces. And it only figures to get even stranger once Boychuk takes the ice against his former team Thursday night for the first time since being traded earlier this month.

Islanders Gameday News: Come Back to the 5 & Dime, Johnny Boychuk, Johnny Boychuk

It's not a typo - it's a movie reference. FIG picks for tonight's game against the Bruins can be left here. Let's not all pick Johnny Boychuk, OK? Islanders news Move-a-rama! Anders Lee was recalled from Bridgeport and Colin McDonald was placed on waivers Wednesday. If he isn't claimed by a team before noon today, McDonald will report to the Sound Tigers. Also, Mikhail Grabovski was placed on IR with a concussion retroactive to the 16th. That's bad. The good news: Lubomir Visnovsky could be on his way back. Bruins welcome back Johnny Boychuk

WILMINGTON — A visit by the New York Islanders, a talented young team that seems to be taking a step forward, would be interesting in any case. But it’s made more so by the return of longtime Bruin Johnny Boychuk, who was dealt to the Isles three weeks ago.“It’ll be fun, for us and I’m sure for him as well,” Bruins center David Krejci said yesterday. The Islanders are off to a 4-2-0 start, and Boychuk has posted 2-4-6 totals (both goals on power plays) and a plus-4, while averaging a team-high 22:50 in ice time.
