Liveblog: Canadiens beat Avalanche 3-0

Two goals in 2:18 of the third period broke a scoreless tie open. Brett Kulak, of all people, blasted a shorthanded one past Semyon Varlamov to open the scoring 8:21 in. Then Jesperi Kotkaniemi converted a sweet Jonathan Drouin feed. And with Semyon Varlamov on the bench, Jordie Benn scored a 200-footer. Shots were 31-28 […]

Brett Kulak is proving his worth for the Canadiens

Acquired prior to the start of the season, Kulak is cementing his spot on the roster. When the Montreal Canadiens acquired Brett Kulak from the Calgary Flames on October 1 in return for defencemen Rinat Valiev and Matt Taormina, it was not to make an immediate impact. Kulak spent the first 19 games of the season with the Laval Rocket in the American Hockey League before being recalled November 22. And since then, he has played 21 NHL games. Against the St. Louis Blues, Kulak was paired with Jordie Benn for the majority of the game, and he has proven to be a great asset on a bottom-four...

Recap: Carey Price shuts out Vancouver in his return

The Canadiens all-star rings in the New Year with a return to the form he left in 2018. Carey Price made 33 saves in his return from a lower-body injury as the Montreal Canadiens returned home and started 2019 with a 2-0 win over the Vancouver Canucks Thursday night at the Bell Centre. Jordie Benn and Jonathan Drouin scored for the Canadiens in their first home game after their annual Holiday road trip where they went 4-2-0. The game started with a scary incident for the Canadiens. Brendan Gallagher took a shot off the hand and went right to the room, and looked like a potential bad injury...

The defenceman now has points in three consecutive games. Getting a rollling puck in his feet, Jordie Benn moved it up, got it to sit, and blasted it off the crossbar and in for his third goal of the season. He has two of them, and a total of four points, in his last three games. Great pressure by Kotkaniemi and Armia, and Jordie Benn scores his third of the year. pic.twitter.com/nUlYEgMSC0— Scott Matla (@scottmatla) January 4, 2019

Paul Byron fed Jeff Petry for the Overtime winner. Phillip Danault, the hero of the road trip, had tied the game at 2-2 in the third period. Radek Faksa beat Antti Niemi to tie things at 1-1, three minutes into the second period. Then with Jordie Benn in the penalty box, brother Jamie gave the […]

[Highlight] Phillip Danault caps off a great play with the opening goal

Defencemen Jordie Benn and Brett Kulak were all around the goal to set up the centreman. Phillip Danault scored the goal, but it was a great bit of work from Jordie Benn and Brett Kulak doing their best forward impersonations that created the chance.

After setting up the second goal, Benn scored the third one himself. A smart play got him an assist earleir in the game. A brute-force one got Jordie Benn his second goal of the year. A nice play from the defencemen created an easy goal for the fourth-liner. Sixteen seconds after opening the scoring, the Canadiens added another goal, this one with a perfect pass onto the stick of Kenny Agostino from Jordie Benn.
