Fire & Ice | Bergen Record Devils right wing Ilya Kovalchuk is practicing with the team, but appears to be one of the extra forwards on the fifth line with Andrei Loktionov, Krys Barch and Tom Kostopoulos. Kovalchuk has missed the last 11 games with a right shoulder injury he sustained in a 2-1 victory over Florida on March 23. That he is one of the extra forwards today would seem to indicate that there are no plans for him to play in Saturday afternoon’s game against Florida. The other line combinations remain the same as in Thursday’s 3-0 win in Philadelphia, which snapped the Devils’ 10-game losing streak. Devils...
New Jersey Devils April 20, 2013Fire & Ice | Bergen Record Devils center Andrei Loktionov will miss tonight’s game against the Montreal Canadiens with an unspecified injury he sustained in Friday’s 2-1 shootout loss in Philadelphia. Devils coach Pete DeBoer would not even specify if Loktionov’s injury is to his upper or lower body, saying only he is “day to day.” With Loktionov out, rookie left wing Stefan Matteau will return to the Devils’ lineup after being a healthy scratch for three consecutive games. Rookie left wing Harri Pesonen will also play and make his NHL debut in place for Krys Barch, who will be a healthy scratch. DeBoer said Pesonen ...
New Jersey Devils March 16, 2013Fire & Ice | Bergen Record Even Ryan Carter was a little reluctant today to use the word concussion, but the Devils left wing said that was what he sustained when he was hit in the head against Ottawa on Feb. 18. “I think it’s pretty much what we can call it now,” Carter said today. Carter skated hard after today’s optional morning skate with healthy scratches Anton Volchenkov, Peter Harrold and Krys Barch. Today was his third day of skating. He took part in Wednesday’s full practice in Winnipeg as well and skated on his own briefly Tuesday in New Jersey. When asked how he was feeling today, Carter replied, “Pretty g...
New Jersey Devils February 28, 2013Fire & Ice | Bergen Record New arrival Matt Anderson is skating on the fourth line with Krys Barch and Jacob Josefson in the Devils’ morning skate today at TD Garden as the team prepares for tonight’s game against the Boston Bruins. Anderson will wear No. 12 tonight as he makes his NHL debut at age 30. It looks like Barch will play in place of Cam Janssen, who is the extra forward this morning. Rookie left wing Stefan Matteau is skating again this morning on the top line with Travis Zajac and Ilya Kovalchuk. This could be Matteau’s final NHL game before being returned to junior. He has already played in four games. If...
