Sharks Throw Out First Pitch at Athletics Game

But did they throw strikes? The Sharks season may have ended last Sunday and while some players have left the Bay Area for their off season homes, a handful of Sharks remain in San Jose. This afternoon, the Oakland Athletics invited five Sharks to throw out the first pitch(es) before their game against the Los Angeles Angels. Clad in A’s white jerseys sporting their names and numbers, Logan Couture, Martin Jones, Justin Braun, Brenden Dillon, and Barclay Goodrow stood in between the lines and threw out the first pitch. SHARKS! First pitches follow a terrific season on the ice. ...

Sharks vs. Penguins, Game 5: Logan Couture comes up large again

If the Sharks come back to win this series, it’ll largely be thanks to the stellar play of Martin Jones. The second player on the Sharks Conn Smythe short list has to be Logan Couture. He tallied three points on Thursday night to pad his large points lead this postseason and continues to drive play for San Jose. Barring a couple of incredible games from Joe Pavelski, Brent Burns or Phil Kessel it’s very likely Couture will finish with the most points in the 2016 postseason. He has nine goals and 20 assists, the latter of which is the most in the NHL during the second season. Beyond the...

Sharks vs. Penguins, Game 5 Highlights: Logan Couture tallies three points, Joe Pavelski seals the deal

The San Jose Sharks’ season will lives on at least until Sunday. Logan Couture scored three points, Joe Pavelski sealed the win with an empty netter and San Jose can rest easy for at least another 24 hours. Thanks to Friends Of the Blog NBC Sports (I dunno) we’ve got highlights of all four of the Sharks’ goals. Let’s take it from the top. Brent Burns (speaking of, have you got your Burns shirt yet?) got things going with this goal. It's his first goal of the Stanley Cup Final and put the Sharks up 1-0. That lead jumped to 2-0 quickly. Logan Couture scored for his second of what...

Stanley Cup Final 2016, Game 5 Quick Bite: Martin Jones, Logan Couture keep Sharks’ season alive

The Sharks live to fight another day. San Jose beat the Penguins 4-2 on Thursday in game five of the Stanley Cup Final to send the series back to SAP Center on Sunday. Martin Jones and Logan Couture deserve most of the plaudits as the San Jose goaltender made 44 saves and Couture picked up three points. Joe Pavelski scored an empty-net tally with just over a minute to go to put the game to bed and Melker Karlsson had the game-winning tally. Now the Sharks can tie the series up on Sunday. After going behind 3-1 through four games, San Jose needed something of a miracle to win its first ever...

Stanley Cup Finals: Donskoi’s OT goal lifts Sharks win Game 3

The rookie left wing’s sixth goal of the playoffs enabled San Jose to cut Pittsburgh’s lead in the best-of-seven series to 2-1. Joel Ward let go with an unscreened slap shot from the high slot that found its way over the left pad and under the glove of Pittsburgh goalie Matt Murray. Right wing Patric Hornqvist redirected defenseman Ben Lovejoy‘s shot from the blue line past goalie Martin Jones with 52.3 seconds left. The go-ahead goal came following a San Jose turnover as the Sharks tried to clear the puck up the wall. Logan Couture had a close call when he hit the far post on a...

Logan Couture is right — Sidney Crosby cheats on faceoffs

If losing game two of the Stanley Cup Final wasn't bad enough, Logan Couture decided it was time to drop a truth bomb on Sidney Crosby in his postgame press availability. You can see the relevant quote in the tweet below. Logan Couture says Crosby wins offensive zone faceoffs so cleanly because he cheats. Says he gets away with it because of who he is.— Craig Custance (@CraigCustance) June 2, 2016 So right, not a great look. The thing is that Couture is almost certainly right — Crosby absolutely cheats on face offs. How can I be so confident about that? Because literally everyone...

DeBoer’s line juggling yields a goal but no victory

DeBoer’s line juggling yields a goal but no victory PITTSBURGH - Coach Peter DeBoer juggled personnel on two forward lines to start the third period, a move that led to a late tying goal but failed to produce a series-tying win. Gritty right wing Joel Ward was promoted alongside second-liners Logan Couture and Joonas Donskoi while left wing Patrick Marleau was removed and slipped between left wing Matt Nieto and right wing Melker Karlsson. Defenseman Justin Braun’s goal came with the Couture forward line creating a forecheck, working hard deep in the Pittsburgh end before tossing the...
