Logan Couture and Drew Doughty: Not exactly BFFs

The more Logan Couture and Drew Doughty played against each other in the playoffs, the less likely, it seemed, that they were going to remain buddies. In exit interviews with reporters, Doughty said Sunday that he actually has a better… Continue Reading → The post Logan Couture and...

Logan Couture helped turn the Sharks around

The forward provided key depth to San Jose after his return from injury. What seems like a lifetime ago, I wrote about the myth of depth as it regards to the San Jose Sharks. After losing Logan Couture (the first time) and Paul Martin, the Sharks stuttered and hit a bit of a skid. That highlighted how important the forward (and Martin, of course) are to San Jose — but not as much as his return did. Since Couture returned to the Sharks on December 30 the team has drastically improved its possession game. Just compare the possession numbers for San Jose leading up to December 30 and...

Sharks win again in L.A., take 2-0 series lead

Joe Pavelski scored his third goal in two games, Martin Jones made 27 saves, and the Sharks took a 2-0 series lead on the Los Angeles Kings with a 2-1 victory in Game 2 of their first-round playoff series Saturday night. Logan Couture also scored for the Sharks, who largely dominated their California rivals in their second straight road victory. Jones made several key stops against his former L.A. teammates and hung on after losing his shutout bid on Vincent Lecavalier’s power-play goal with 5:01 to play. The Sharks went up 3-0 on Los Angeles in the first round in 2014, only to become...

Sharks' Logan Couture heating up in time for NHL playoffs

Logan Couture adds optimism to San Jose Sharks' Stanley Cup playoff hopes with five goals in last four games.

Reimer’s shutout gives San Jose road-win record

The Sharks got to celebrate a franchise record for road wins following a 3-0 victory at Minnesota on Tuesday night. James Reimer made 29 saves for his third shutout in eight games for San Jose, and the Sharks set a franchise record with their 28th road win of the season. Patrick Marleau scored twice and Logan Couture added his fifth goal in the past four games for San Jose, which leads the NHL in road wins this season and set a franchise record of 59 road points with seven wins in the past eight road games. Couture scored his 15th goal of the season less than five minutes into the game...

Quick Bite: Hertl leads Sharks comeback in Nashville

San Jose picks up two points in its second-to-last road game of the season. A pair of third period goals by Tomas Hertl erased a 2–0 deficit and sent the Sharks to overtime and then a shootout in Nashville. Logan Couture scored and James Reimer stopped every shot he saw in the skills competition as San Jose tied its franchise record for road wins in a season (27, set in 2007–08). The Sharks can set a new record with a win in Minnesota on Tuesday. San Jose came out of the gate stronger than in some of its recent games, but it was Nashville that got the game's first goal. After Chris...

The Morning After: Logan Couture finally gets his hat trick

He's come close multiple times, but Tuesday night Couture finally sealed the deal. For the 21st time in his career, Logan Couture scored twice in one game. For the first time in his career, Couture finally got a third. In what could be seen as a divine makeup call, Couture scored three times for the Sharks on Tuesday after being denied by one of the best saves I've ever seen by Jonathan Quick on Monday. After narrowly missing the empty net on his first shot down ice, Couture was visibly upset — but the icing gave him another shot at getting that elusive third goal. He didn't miss this...

Quick Bite: Logan Couture bags first hat trick as Sharks beat Canucks

Three goals by Logan Couture helped San Jose to its second-straight win. Logan Couture recorded his first career hat trick to help the Sharks to a 4-1 win on Tuesday night, sweeping a tough back-to-back. San Jose scored in the first 20 seconds and final 20 seconds of the second period, providing all the offense needed to hand Vancouver its ninth-straight loss. Couture scored that elusive third goal on an empty net after just missing the empty net moments earlier. His first career NHL hat trick came on the night he scored his 150th, 151st and 152nd goals. James Reimer kept the Sharks in the...

Notes: Couture, Lucic focused on winning tonight, not rehashing season-opening dust-up

The dust-up that took place in the season-opener between the Sharks’ Logan Couture and Los Angeles Kings forward Milan Lucic might be ancient history. But Lucic has definitely enjoyed being a part of the rivalries the Kings have with the… Continue Reading → The post Notes: Couture,...
