Today's open discussion thread, complete with your daily dose of Philadelphia Flyers news and notes... *IT'S FINALLY HERE!!! Flyers hockey returns to your life in what I assume will be triumphant fashion because it's way too early to be negative. Our boys hit the ice in Tampa tonight at 730. [BSH] *The Flyers know they can't start flat like they did last year. Would be very bad. [CSN Philly] *What exactly would it take to get a fast...

Defenseman Luke Schenn earns spot in Flyers' opener

Much-maligned defenseman Luke Schenn will be in the Flyers' starting lineup Thursday for their opener in Tampa. Schenn was with the since-demoted Andrew MacDonald on the fourth pairing for most of training camp, but he beat out Radko Gudas for the last defensive spot. A stay-at-home defender, Schenn, 25, will be paired with the puck-moving Evgeny Medvedev, the Flyers' best defenseman in training camp.

Luke Schenn makes the Flyers opening night lineup, Radko Gudas scratched

Only days after being the subject of waiver rumors, Luke Schenn will be in the lineup when the Flyers face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night. On Saturday morning, Andrew MacDonald and Luke Schenn skated on the fourth pairing and appeared to be new coach Dave Hakstol's choices as healthy scratches for the season opener against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Four days later, MacDonald is with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and Schenn has earned his way back into the starting lineup. Could the Philadelphia Flyers actually waive Luke Schenn?

Reports out of Voorhees have Luke Schenn currently out of the opening night starting lineup. Would the Flyers actually consider waiving him? Throughout training camp, it was obvious that the Philadelphia Flyers had a serious logjam on defense. With eight defensemen on NHL contracts, it was not only going to be difficult for any of the highly-touted prospects to make the team out of camp, but also would be a test for the veterans, who faced a legitimate battle for a spot on opening night. Last Saturday the Flyers sent the remaining prospects - Shayne Gostisbehere and Robert Hagg - to the...

Flyers at Rangers Recap: Yandle's OT Penalty Shot Wins It

I'm not Bryan. This is my version of a recap. I'm very sorry. Whatever you do, don't read this recap while drinking or operating heavy machinery. Nick Schultz was called for interference just five seconds into the first period which put the Rangers on the power play before everyone in the Garden even had a chance to find their seats. However, the Rangers were unable to get much of anything going on the man advantage. 16:36 into the first period Luke Schenn hit Jesper Fast after he put a shot on net which gave us our first inevitable scrum of the game. At the 15:42 mark a blast from Mark...

What's going on with Brayden and Luke Schenn in Flyers training camp?

No love for these brothers. We're about a week into Dave Hakstol's first NHL training camp right now, and OK ... it's only been a week. Hard to make too many assumptions at this point. But we can't just ignore what we're seeing either, and we're starting to notice some things about the coach, particularly with how he's using certain players. And when it comes to Brayden Schenn and Luke Schenn, it's time to get a little curious. Let's start with Brayden. For most of camp, he's been the right winger on a line with center Scott Laughton and left winger Chris Porter. Laughton is a third-year...
