Free Agency Won’t Fix the New Jersey Devils Defense

Free Agency Won’t Fix the New Jersey Devils Defense

After taking a glance at the NHL defenders that will be available this summer, today we look at why they may not offer a realistic solution to some of the woes of the New Jersey Devils. While there is certainly underachieving across the board at all positions for the New Jersey Devils this season, two positions have been of particular concern: defense and goaltending. The latter problem may be in the process of being solved if MacKenzie Blackwood can continue to give the Devils quality starts. This article isn’t about him however; it is about the defense and the abundance of problems...

Game Preview: The New Jersey Devils at the New York Islanders

The Devils will try to do something tonight. The Matchup: New Jersey Devils (18-21-7) at the New York Islanders (26-15-4) The Time: 7:00 PM The Broadcast: MSG+2 Somehow: The New York Islanders have better goaltending than the New Jersey Devils - significantly so. Robin Lehner is leading the team with a .928 save percentage and a 2.16 goals against average. Thomas Greiss also has a .918 save percentage and a 2.62 goals against average. So apparently, the Devils won’t be given an easier time by a team playing a bad goaltender. I expect the New Jersey Devils to start MacKenzie Blackwood...

Gamethread #45: New Jersey Devils vs. Chicago Blackhawks

The New Jersey Devils look to ride MacKenzie Blackwood to another W as they host the Chicago Blackhawks in the first meeting between the teams this season. Coming off of a 3-2 home win against the rival Philadelphia Flyers, the New Jersey Devils will attempt to make it two in a row as the Chicago Blackhawks come to the Rock. This is the first match-up between these teams this season, and much like Saturday, it’s a contest between a pair of underachieving teams. The Hawks come in having dropped their last game at home 4-3 to the Vegas Golden Knights in overtime. They are led by the...

Mack is Back! New Jersey Devils down Philadelphia Flyers 3-2

With two injured players returning, the New Jersey Devils were able to look like a competent team in defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2. This post recaps and encouraging victory. With most of the week wasted by going 0-3, the New Jersey Devils looked to salvage some pride by beating the rival Philadelphia Flyers. The good news for New Jersey is that both MacKenzie Blackwood and Marcus Johansson were cleared and inserted into the lineup, with Blackwood being pushed into the spotlight as the starter. Looking Forward to More Blackwood Starts

With the New Jersey Devils currently sitting near the bottom of the NHL and playing like it, as fans we need to look for improvement, however it will happen. One player I am excited to hone in on, for the importance it would mean to the team, is Mackenzie Blackwood. As of 9 o’clock this morning when I was writing this piece, there was still no confirmation on who the starting goaltender would be this afternoon for the New Jersey Devils in their tilt against Philadelphia. On Left Wing Lock, Keith Kinkaid was the projected, but Abbey Mastracco on northjersey.com yesterday wrote how...

In fact, they’re the two of five teams that have fewer than 40 points. The Devils, just one point above the Flyers, could tie the sixth place Rangers or fall to the bottom of the Metropolitan basement with this game. Who Practiced?: Cory Schneider practiced for the first time in awhile, and franchise-savior MacKenzie Blackwood also joined him. Through the...

Gamethread #43: New Jersey Devils vs. Toronto Maple Leafs

The New Jersey Devils return home and hope to avoid being on the wrong end of a season sweep as they face the Toronto Maple Leafs. Returning home from an utterly disappointing road trip, the New Jersey Devils hope to bounce back in tonight’s contest against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The last time these teams met was back on December 18th, and the game was virtually over after the first 14 minutes, with Toronto posting a 7-2 victory by game’s end. The bright spot of that game would be that MacKenzie Blackwood saw his first action in New Jersey, even though it was not his best...
