Sharks players see Olympic decision as shortsighted

SAN JOSE — As a parade of NHL superstars expressed their displeasure with the league’s decision Monday to not participate in the 2018 Olympics in South Korea, Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic sent out a tweet that he insists is a good summary of his opinion on the matter. Vlasic’s tweet shows the five Olympic rings reorganized […]

Handing out Sharks’ season awards

It might seem like an awkward time to be handing out accolades, but San Jose has clinched a Stanley Cup playoff berth for the 12th time in 13 seasons, so it did something right for most of the season. Brent Burns has been more important to the Sharks than anyone despite a late-season drop in production. Norris (top defenseman): Burns again, which is saying something since Marc-Edouard Vlasic is annually the Sharks’ minister on defense. Calder (top rookie): Six rookies still in Sharks’ the system have appeared while three — forwards Kevin Labanc, Timo Meier and Marcus Sorensen —...

Sharks' Vlasic back at practice; Haley awaits punishment

SAN JOSE Marc-Edouard Vlasic returned to practice on Monday after missing two of the Sharks four games on their recently completed road trip.Vlasic did not play in Tuesdays game in Minnesota or Saturdays game in Nashville with the flu, and was spotted walking with a slight limp after Fridays game in Dallas when he took just one shift in the third period before departing. Not surprisingly, center Logan Couture was missing after he took a deflected puck to the mouth on Saturday in Nashville and will miss some time, although the team has yet to update his condition.

The Daily Chum: Marc-Edouard Vlasic has taken a step back this year and injury may be to blame

The defender hasn’t been the same since taking a puck to the face against Philadelphia. The Sharks announced Marc-Edouard Vlasic as a late scratch before Saturday night’s loss to the Nashville Predators, saying it was due to illness. Friend of the Blog Kevin Kurz noted the defender, who skated only one shift in the third period against Dallas, wasn’t walking right while leaving the dressing room on Friday night. If Vlasic is out the Sharks are in even hotter water than previously thought. That goes doubly true if Logan Couture misses extended time as the forward went to the hospital...

The Daily Chum: Things only get worse after bad night in Nashville

San Jose has seven games to pick up the pieces The San Jose Sharks dropped their sixth-game in a row last night and they once again accomplished the feat in traditionally excruciating fashion. Logan Couture, Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Chris Tierney lie among the wounded in San Jose’s 7-2 loss to the Predators on Saturday night, a loss that leaves the door open for Anaheim to take sole possession of the Pacific on Sunday. Couture took a puck to the face and left during the third period while both Vlasic and Tierney were unable to suit up for action. Tierney’s injury is likely lower-body...
